We enjoyed our visit again this year. It was our second stay there recently. It is peaceful and the surroundings are so very beautiful. It is convenient to all of the areas of Mt. Desert Island as well as the surrounding areas for day trips. We plan to stay there every time we visit the Bar Harbor/Acadia National Park area. The management respects your privacy and the cottages are clean and comfortable. The grounds are very pretty and well kept. It has been our experience that all of the guests are very quiet and respectful of each other as well. If you enjoy being on your own and peace and quiet, this is definitely the place to stay.

We stayed at Eden Village for 3 nights in August 2006. This is a traditional older style motel with several cabins. Our one room cabin was clean and comfortable. The shower was a little small, and we would have preferred larger towels, but otherwise we were very pleased with the accomodations. The kitchen had everything we would need for cooking simple meals. Housekeeping came in daily to make the beds and change out towels as needed. The fireplace and smalll screened porch were nice features.

It is about a 10 minute drive to Acadia National Park and Bar Harbor. The area is nice and quiet with a beautiful little lake with paddle boats available.

Compared to other hotels and bed and breakfasts in Bar Harbor, Eden Village was a wonderful value. We would stay here again if we have the chance to visit this beautiful area.

  • Liked — Beautiful setting, quiet.
  • Disliked — Shower and towels too small.
  • Tips/Secrets — Dress warmly. When we arrived August 12, 2006 it was 56 degrees. We needed sweaters every evening

Perhaps our most important consideration in renting a vacation cottage/room, especially if for more than one night, is that it be quiet at night. We were very pleased that we did not hear any road noises at Eden Village; nor were there any raucous parties or other loud noises from the other guests.

Although we had read about the property online before making our registration , we were still pleasantly surprised to find amenities that we hadn't realized were at the property, including, paddleboats and fish in the pond and toys, games and books in the shed and/or office. And our 7-year old daughter loved the ducks.

Staying at Eden Village was a very uncomfortable experience. The owners made me and my family feel uneasy and they wanted to know too much information about who would be staying in the cottage (none of their busy) and how old my brother and I were (27, 25). After paying over $800 for a cottage rental for a week we arrived to our cottage to find the cottage full of little notes of rules about what to do and not to do. After that my brother was briefed on how the car had to be parked a certain way at the cottage and our second car had to be parked in a special area "vistor parking" even though it was quite a walk to the cottage. Another seemingly trival thing that they required was that upon our arrival we had to take an inventory of the dishes and if any were to go missing or accidentally should break during our stay we had to notify them immediately. (This were very cheap second hand dishes). Additionally it felt as if we were being watched by both owners. They seemed to appear everytime we went outside. Also worth noting is outside their office/house was a bell that my brother rang upon arriving (which is a polite thing to do before entering), the owner Bob lectured him about not ringing the bell under any circumstance other than an emergency. I'm very disappointed that we spent so much money to stay there and then was made to feel as if we were not on vaction but rather in prision. Furthermore during the week our beds were not made up even once. If you are planning a vaction to getaway from stress I would advise not to stay at Eden Village.

It is my opinion that the comments made by the person that posted the above review should be disregarded. Please read my remarks and then decide if Eden Village is a place where you would like to stay.

The person that checked in for this group had forgotten the confirmation so it became necessary to explain many of the details of their stay that were outlined on both the confirmation and reservation form. This group was staying in a housekeeping cottage which means we come in each day with fresh towels and to empty the trash but the occupants make their own beds and take care of the cottage during their stay. The person who registered told me that they would be having up to 3 cars at the 5 person cottage during the stay and but wasn't sure exactly how many people would be staying at any one time. He was told 1 car could park at the cottage at a time (on the grass) and the others needed to park in our guest parking area. For the safety and convenience of all our guests IT IS VERY MUCH our business and responsibility to know who and how many people are occupying a cottage. Eden Village is a lodging facility where people come to vacation and do not want to be disturbed by other peoples lifestyles. If this person had told us in advance that they wanted to rent a 5 person cottage for a minimum of 5 adults and would be bringing 3 cars we would have directed them to a different establishment that would better suit their needs. Any notes posted in the cottages are for the convenience and safety of all our guests. All our cottages have kitchenettes equipped with Revereware stainless steel pots and pans. The dishes are a matching set of Corelle.

Our office door is always open between 8AM until 9PM. For the convenience of our guests we have an after hours intercom system that is clearly marked outside the office entrance. It only rings in our house and cannot be heard at any other location. After this person activated the after hours system for the third time that afternoon he was simply told to enter the office when he needed assistance.

Eden Village is a Mom and Pop type establishment. Gail and myself are outside working and visiting with the guests throughout the day. We make an effort to say hi or wave to our guests whenever we see them. This person was obviously uncomfortable with these greetings. It would appear not all the people staying in the cottage were disappointed as someone did leave the housekeeper a $20 tip. However they didn't leave the cottage key when checking out and we would like that returned ASAP.

Our stay at Eden Village was quite pleasant. The property is well cared for and the cabin was neat and clean. Although the shower was a little tight we found the accomodations quite comfortable, always clean (note that it is not fancy but utilitarian) and completely met our needs during out trip to Bar Harbor.

We can't say enough about our stay at Eden Village in Bar Harbor. We had great weather and our cottage was wonderful. It is certainly a great place to stay for a couple or a family and this was our 3rd year coming back since we love it and enjoy the close location to Acadia National Park. Bar Harbor Maine is a place everyone should try and come visit you will not be disappointed. The month of July is when we visit and it is really a good time since not too hot . We have found July to be so very pleasant for doing outside hiking. The park has so many trails to hike and even just the ocean pathwalk is so very pretty. Also the cottages have picnic tables at each cottage and a grill to use. Hopefully we will go back again next year as well. We are hooked on Maine for sure. Not to mention the lobsters we so enjoy when we come to Maine......Ginny & Fred Verdi, Lawrenceville, NJ.
