“A BIT TIRED”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed November 6, 2012

We booked at the Wonder View Inn for the night we were at Bar Harbour, based on other recommendations. However we were very disappointed. Yes indeed there was a view of the sea in the distance and I am sure the view from the recommended restaurant, where we did not dine, or the room on the upper level, could be very good.

The reception was pretty off hand, there were only plastic cups in the room with no tea or coffee making facilities, which were only available in the reception area from 0700 to 2100. No glasses for wine or beer were available other than in the restaurant.

The whole place a had fairly tired atmosphere. I would describe this as a very basic Motel and would not stay there agin nor would I recommend it.

Room Tip: We cannot give any tips as we did not see any other rooms

Thank you for your review regarding your visit to the Wonder View Inn. I deeply apologize for the issues that you pointed out. We are in the midst of a multi year improvement program as the recession winds down. I would like to offer you complimentary lodging for a night should your travel plans bring you back to Bar Harbor to experience the difference.

We stayed in one of the higher level rooms, which had a fantastic view of the entire Bar Harbor bay. We never grew tired of watching it--esp. the cruise ships as they came and went. The hotel is located outside the hustle and bustle of Bar Harbor proper, and I think that is a benefit. The quiet for sleeping and relaxation was very welcome. The room was spacious, comfortable, and well equipped. We found the balcony a special plus. Also, as has been said, the Looking Glass Restaurant serves fantastic food (we preferred breakfast to dinner) with the same delightful view. Altogether, you could not ask for a better hotel in the Bar Harbor area.

Room Tip: If you can afford it, it is worth paying a little more for the higher level rooms--the views they ha...

Thank you for your review of the Wonder View Inn. You are correct as one never does get tired of the view. I marvel at it daily. As described the location of the Inn is one of the key elements of the property. I will also pass along your comments to our culinary team regarding your meals at the Looking Glass restaurant. We hope to see you again when your travel plans bring you back to New England.

Our stay at Wonderview was a great bargain. Even in the less expensive rooms the view of the harbor was beautiful. The Looking Glass Restaurant offered a delicious breakfast with excellent service. Try the Eggs Benedict with lobster. I would stay at the Wonderview again.

Thank you for your review regarding your stay at the Wonder View Inn. The lobster benedict that you enjoyed was a very strong selling item this season indeed. Hopefully when your travel plans bring you back to Maine, we will be honored to serve you again.

I stayed here while attending a photography workshop at Acadia National Park in October 2012, and this was a great place for us to stay at. It was minutes from downtown Bar Harbor and also just a few minutes away from the park. The room was clear and well kept, and I would stay here again.

Room Tip: My room did not have a good view of the ocean, the next time I stay here I will request a room with...

This hotel was booked for us by our travel agent and after reading some of the reviews on here we were wondering if we should ask for a change. That would have been a big mistake and we were left wondering if either some of the reviewers had stayed at the same place or we were lucky with our room allocation. Certainly the exterior of some of the property is in need of maintenance, but inside the room it is a different story. We found a large, well equipped and most importantly of all, clean room with a great view over the bay. It looked as if it had been recently refurbished, fitted out with coffee maker and fridge. Although it did have an older CRT television, this somehow fitted with the general atmosphere of the room. Yes, the bathroom fittings looked old style, but they were clean and worked. For all I know they could be the latest retro fashion.
A high point of the stay was to eat in the Looking Glass restaurant, so far the best food of our New England trip. For a little more money, you get so much more. Good quality ingredients well prepared and freshly cooked for you.

Thank you for taking the time to share your experience at the Wonder View on TripAdvisor. I'm glad you chose to give us a try and enjoyed your stay. Our goal is to offer our guests a good value-clean rooms, excellent service and a great location on the edge of Bar Harbor and minutes from Acadia National Park. Your lovely compliments about The Looking Glass Restaurant are much appreciated and will certainly be shared with Chef Montes and the rest of the staff. We hope you'll visit us again.

We stayed there for 2 nights. Had room 44 with a balcony. Fabulous views from balcony . Ask for a room with a view of the ocean. Room had a fridge, coffee pot, extra pillows, extra blankets, very clean place. They even had a tiny heater in the bathroom so you dont get cold after your shower.. Friendly and helpful front desk receptionists. The free Island Explorer Bus comes right up to the lobby so no need to use your car in Bar Harbor. (This bus service only runs from June to October). We were very comfortable. The on site restaurant, The Looking Glass has excellent breakfasts. We didnt do dinners there as quite pricey. They do have lobster dinners. Views from The Looking Glass are breathtaking. Maine at it's best. It is close to Bar Harbor and Arcadia National Park. It is a great base for a vacation. We were told we could go next door to the Blue Nose Hotel and use their pool, their spa or go to the evening entertainment program if we wished.. All in all, we were very pleased with the experience.

Room Tip: definately ask for a room with a balcony and a view of the ocean as some of the rooms face into tree...

I'm delighted you enjoyed your stay with us at the Wonder View! We do have spectacular views of Frenchman Bay from The Looking Glass and from some of our rooms. Other rooms offer views of our 14 acre property which include a grassy, stone fenced courtyard and wooded areas-a little something for everyone. Thank you so much for taking the time to write such a well-thought out review on TripAdvisor, we appreciate your comments. We hope you'll have the opportunity to visit us again soon!

Stayed her for two nights on a trip around New England to see the Fall colours. That was two nights too long! The place has seen better days and the efforts to improve it have not worked! Room small with no closet to hang clothes, just a rack with hangers. No coffee making facility for the mornings! Neighbours can be heard taking a shower. This is a motel not a hotel and I don't know what I paid as the whole trip was arranged for me by a tour operator but however much, it wasn't worth it!!!

Thank you for your review of the Wonder View Inn. You are correct, the property is a motel not a hotel and I am disappointed that the tour operator did not convey this to you. The motel is conveniently located near Acadia National Park and downtown Bar Harbor and adjacent to the 4 diamond Bluenose Inn. While the property is not new and lacks some of today's modern touches, it is marketed as being a clean establishment in a great location. I apologize for any misunderstanding and we will certainly work more closely with our tour operators to ensure their patrons are aware of the level of accommodations especially given the low price point.
