Gave me a room I requested, I'm a light sleeper & don't like to be near guests with kids.

We've been vacationing in Bar Harbor and Acadia for over three decades. We stayed several nights at this "park in front of your room" motel. The room was very clean inside and the motel looked tidy, cheerful and well maintained outside. But the room was tired, worn and a disappointing contrast to the exterior. The mini-refrigerator and microwave were convenient. The wireless internet was intermittent, unreliable and slow. The location is quiet and convenient to both downtown and Acadia. The owners have a strict deposit policy which we had not encountered before. Upon meeting them, they seemed cool and reserved - quite a contrast to other innkeepers who seem happy to be in the hospitality business. Cromwell Harbor is clean and safe, but we'll be staying elsewhere on all our future trips.

We had stayed in a cozy B&B before, but decided to limit our budget and stay in a motel the next time around. I was pleasantly surprised when I checked in the Cromwell Harbor! The rooms are clean and very spacious. Room amenities are a coffee machine, a new and clean fridge, TV and free wi-fi internet. The place is very quiet, and is a short drive to the Jackson Laboratory, to the Acadia National Park gates and a pleasant walk to the town center. I felt I was on vacation, rather than on a business trip!

As it says, we hit the right hotel the first time and never found better yet! We keep going back year after year (sometimes twice a year), though we do peruse (look at) the other hotels out of curiosity but we found that none offer the home-like feeling and prime location/sweet getaway reason you leave home; i.e. no video games, no noise, or a feeling to be on the internet again wasting time you could be spending sightseeing (they have what they call “color brochures” at the desk that you can take with you, and you don’t have to print them out LoL ;-), and there are many to chose from!! (btw, its the island’s internet backbone that is slow to get with big city speed, but that’s not what you want on a “vacation getaway” anyways!). The owners started there just about the time we started coming, 20+ years ago, and over that time we have seen many types of fellow roomies from all walks of life, That’s also very cool!! But the ones that are most attracted and meld there into regulars are the warm caring type that always smile as you pass and give a sincere good-morning/good-day, that bubble with wanting to share tips on what treasure sightseeing find they just discovered, everyone there seems to have the same glow that Maine and a place like this gives you. Young, old, in-between, long as you came to relax and take in Maine at the pace its best at rewarding you with, then it will be a wonderful experience all around. Yes the hotel rooms are clean, warm feeling and comfortable and everything they need to be (my picky wife would not let us stay otherwise LoL), but you came there to enjoy the magnificent sights, the flavor of the locals and other sightseers, the food, and a safe environment that no big town has, get up and get out there and enjoy it! We walk to breakfast every morning and to dinner every night (in our 50s now) and on the way to and fro we see so many happy tourist shopping at the many stores (YES, you can shop some on the way to eats or on your way back, nice!....and if you so desire, no issues with drinking and driving if you walk home ;-). The stores are real, no "made in China fake stuff!, most of them are all local owned/local and talented artisans. I could go on, the owners are now dear friends of ours, we go out to dinner when they have a spare moment, there is so much more wonderful things I could say but not sure the word count limit on this response so I better stop now, but don’t you stop thinking about going there, and everything the island has to offer! Sincerely, Jeff M

  • Liked — Everything its suppose to be, and I am picky!
  • Disliked — No ocean view but that cost big bucks, and I plan to drive to the ocean sights anyways!

There are a number of good things about the Cromwell Harbor Motel. The location is great -- just 5 minutes from downtown. The rooms are basic -- but clean and spacious -- and the in-room refrigerators come in quite handy. Just a few quibbles: the brochure and Web site advertise cable TV, but only the paltry network TV stations were available. Also, there was Wi-Fi Internet access, but it barely worked. I think this was because there was no password/authentication required, hence everybody in the neighborhood was using it. This also means that the Wi-Fi (when it worked) was insecure (so don't do any online banking). We were also put off by the grumpy front desk clerk (didn't catch her name). She barely acknowledged our presence and was on the phone most of the time while we were checking in. Overall, the Cromwell Harbor Motel is a good value if you don't mind indifferent customer service, lack of cable TV, and extremely limited Internet access.

  • Liked — in-room refrigerators. spacious rooms
  • Disliked — lack of cable TV, crappy Wi-Fi

This is a drive-up motel. We had a larger room, next to the office. We had a fridge and a microwave. The bathroom was immaculate, beds were comfortable. The property is brimming with flowers. The pool was clean and nice. The property is enough outside of Bar Harbor so it's quiet, but you can walk 1/2 mile to get into town. There is plenty of parking. The site is non-smoking, with a $200 fine if you smoke or have a pet in a room, yet, the owner (husband) was smoking outside my room at 4am. We asked him to stop and he did. This property is old but immaculate. I don't like the cancellation policy-- two weeks notice or they keep your first night's stay deposit fee. Also if you check out early there is a fee. See my photos.

  • Liked — Convenient to town -- you can walk easily and yet the motel is quiet
  • Disliked — The price -- $167 for a drive-up motel room? Yikes!

When we entered the hotel room it had a bad musty smell and the TV did not work. The lady at the office had to reset a circuit breaker for power to the TV. Later because it was warm we turned on the air conditioner. The smell got worse. Probably due to mold in the AC unit. Do yourself a favor. Don't stay here it's not worth it.
