My husband and I traveled up the coast of Maine for our honeymoon with no set plans or reservations. We wanted to spend a few days hiking in Acadia National Park and wanted to stay close to the park. Upon driving into the town of Bar Harbor we found it to be to crowded and too touristy for our taste! We tried looking for a hotel on the water and stumbled upon the Bayview. It was a little outside of the main downtown (i.e. much quieter!) and very close to Acadia. We decided to just stay one night initially. We liked it SO much we ended up staying 3 nights! The staff was extremely friendly and helpful. They somehow found out we were on our honeymoon (I have no idea how) and put a bottle of champagne in our room!! The room was extremely clean and overlooked the bay. We enjoyed having an excellent breakfast there, then hiking in the park all day, and coming back in the afternoon for a hot cup of tea or coffee that was kept fresh in the dining room. I even walked around the grounds and on the shore of the bay at low tide, although I didn't see many other people doing that. I love that it was so quiet at the Bayview. You are literally blocks from the hustle and bustle of downtown Bar Harbor, but you feel like you are a world away. There is even a shuttle that takes you downtown which we used! The driver was extremely friendly and you just call him when you are ready to be picked up! A great service since we wanted to have drinks with dinner. Overall we are so happy with every aspect of the Bayview!! We really lucked out since we didn't read anything about it before we left and it turns out to be the best hotel in Bar Harbor!
