My mom and I arrived in Bar Harbor September 30th, 2011 and stayed at the Bayview for 4 nights. I had booked the townhouse originally, and although it was absolutely perfect for large families, my mom and I found it to be just too large, with amenities we just would not be using. The front desk gladly changed us to a room in the main building, with beautiful views of the bay. Although we were on the lower floor, under the dining area, and could hear footsteps above, this was not a surprise, since the staff warned us in advance of the possible noise.
The rooms were large, simple and extremely clean, with necessary amenities you would need. This is not a posh, luxury resort with millions of bath products and luxurious furnishings...and one should not expect it to be. What it is....is cozy, clean, warm, thoughtful and quaint. Did I mention absolutely wonderful views of the water off the very large private deck?? Although, it rained a lot while we were there, the scene was still beautiful: misty, foggy, moody and emotional.
The DAILY warm, fresh baked cookies warmed our hearts, and so did the gracious staff. Everyone was so attentive and courteous. There is also FREE, quick shuttle service to and from the town (shops, restaurants, etc.) which literally took less than 5 minutes. The driver was friendly, informative and down to earth. And they will pick you anywhere in town to take you back to the hotel...just call the front desk.
The included breakfast every morning was something to look forward to. Absolutely fresh baked muffins, pastries, breads with wonderful jams, a variety of cereals, and hot dishes such as scrambled eggs, french toast, etc. A variety of juices and the coffee was always fresh (and always available, free of charge, all day long). All served in a beautifully decorated dining area overlooking the water. We were not disappointed.
The hotel is close to Acadia National Park and was the perfect ending to an activity-filled day exploring in nature. I would not hesitate to recommend this place and would most likely return here myself in the future.
Try to avoid the lower level rooms due to footstep from above.
