“Aurora Inn Stay”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed August 2, 2012

My Husband and I stayed at the Aurora Inn the last week of July. We purchased a two day package that included a dinner at the Bar Harbor Inn Reading Room, (what a great experience and good food.), breakfast for two for the two days at the Arcadia Resturant, (great food with a great selection) and service. We also went on a Nature Cruise which took us all around the harbor. We stayed three nights. The room was clean and the service was excellent.
Jerry and Nancy were the best host.

My husband and I travelled from Ontario/Nova Scotia for our first visit to Bar Harbor, we came upon the Aurora Motel/Inn and liked that it was a 5 minute walk to downtown. We stayed in the Inn section as opposed to the motel side but would have been interested in that side as well if there was a non-smoking room available. We were quite pleased with our room and the grounds were lovely. Having a fridge and microwave in the room was very handy. We ended up staying another night and booked one of the nature cruises through the inn to take advantage of the discount, unfortunately we were directed to the wrong cruise and did not benefit from the discount, however when we got back to the inn and I explained to the Manager (he was in the office that evening) I was very impressed by how he handled the situation, he gave me my refund for the discounted cruise ticket and a voucher for a free breakfast at the Acadia for the next morning, he apologized profusely and was sincerely sorry for our inconvenience. I would definately stay there again and recommend it to family and friends.

This was the cheapest place that we did find downtown. We wanted to be able to walk from our hotel to visit and eat. Even if it was the best price, it was way to expensive for the quality of the room. Our first disappointment was believing that there was a pool at the hotel. On the web site that we looked at, it was the first thing it showed. The room was small and old, but it had everything we needed. Even the coffee in the room was great! The place was clean and the bed confortable. The carpet in the room and the tiles in the bathroom seemed new. And yes, you can walk downtown very easily. However, we wont be going back in high season, too expensive for what its worth.

My 2 sisters and I had a great experience at the aurora motel. The price was very reasonable. The location couldn't have been better. It is just 2 blocks from the center of town. The room was very clean, the beds were very comfortable and seemed new. The room had a microwave, fridge and coffee maker. The office also provides coffee each morning. We would stay there again.

This motel is situated almost in the center of Bar Harbor which makes it attractive for those who like to walk downtown. Besides that it is small but very well kept, nicely decorated and clean. Not spectacular or much splendor, but really a good bargain in Bar Harbor. The manager is very friendly. So: not bad at all and certainly good value.

My friend and I expected to camp in Acadia National Park but when we arrived it was to rain for all of our 3 nights, so we opted to find a hotel/motel instead. We were lucky to be before the main tourism season (before mid June) so prices were not sky high. We drove up and down Main Street looking for inns that looked nice, a bit quaint but also in our price range of $100 or less a night.
Tough to do.
Stopped at the Aurora Motel to inquire.
The man at the reception desk, the owner, said they also own the Aurora Inn, which is kittycorner to the motel, facing a side street and with nice big purple-flowering bushes for landscaping.
After looking at a few rooms, we decided to stay.
$89 a night, which is very good for Bar Harbor.
The others we looked at in town for the same price had that musty old smell and lacked any character whatsoever.
We loved the Aurora Inn. Our room was bright, had been updated and outfitted with new bathroom fixtures, etc., wifi, microwave, coffee machine, refrigerator, safe ... all of the t hings you'd find at a hotel that charges much more.
It felt like a little apartment than a hotel room, and we started calling it that.
Porch is great to sit on at night. The landscaping was high and included bright bushes that reminded me of a more tropical setting ...
The Aurora Motel is where you check in, across the street, and while we did not look in those rooms, that area looked more dated and more like a regular motel. If you have the opportunity, go for the Aurora Inn. It will be a great experience as opposed to a good/expected one I think.

The owner or manager, who lives on site next to the motel, was really helpful, nice and friendly. He made us feel at home and was very open. He told us to take some keys and have a look around. He gave us an umbrella to borrow for three days when he noticed we didn't have one. He told us good places to eat, made sure we knew where the supermarket etc was, and when I later lamented forgetting to pick up hot chocolate at the grocery when I went to pay for another night, he gave me some of his own. A super host. We appreciated his earnestness and friendliness.

The Aurora Inn is also in a super ideal location. In town. Y ou can walk anywhere within 5-10 minutes, so we could go on our kayaking tour without moving the car and trying to park (would be very difficult if you're in a high season), walk to restaurants, bars, and the supermarket was at the end of the street for less-expensive snacking. Free parking at the inn. The side street made a diffference for traffic noise.

I really cant' think of a downside to this inn. We were happy and impressed and felt we got a super value for our money. If I ever go to Bar Harbor again and don't camp, I'll be staying here.

Room Tip: Take a room in the Aurora Inn, which is kittycorner to the motel, for a more quaint and residence-st...

Very clean and comfortable. Great in-town location with very convenient parking. Jerry Tibbetts the Host and Manager does a great job. The staff is nearby and attentive. The room rates are very reasonable. We plan on staying at the Aurora Inn when we return to Bar Harbor in the Fall.
