Took a visit to the Black Friar Pub several times over the summer to listen to some good local folk music. First off, the interior is very nice. It's like being in an old English pub in some small UK town. It can be crowded, but it's perfect for a nice old fashion bar setting. In the back is a more open space with books and couches that you can eat and drink at, but in the front of the house is a nice old fashion bar. One of the best things about this place is the entertainment they offer. I saw several local folk bands perform here and besides, "Side Street Cafe", the "Black Friar Pub" is one of the best places to get entertainment in Bar Harbor. The food is simple, but delicious. It's ordinary all-american comfort food along with some pub food. It's not greasy or huge portions. The service is wonderful and the owner is always open to chatting and socializing with his customers at the bar. They also serve breakfast, I haven't gone there for breakfast, but next summer I look forward to doing that. Perhaps I'll write a part 2 review after I do that. The singer was good, she covered some Emmylou Harris and Joni Mitchell hits as well as singing a few songs of her own. While many bars carry the young generation crowd of sports fan, this place manages to carry the 60's-70's generation, so for that, you get great entertainment of local music.
