“Location, Location, Location--- Bar Harbor!”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed September 21, 2013 via mobile

Let's face it. This is an older property in a destination location. It's like the Queen Mary trying to keep up with Carnival Cruises. Given all this handicap, this Quality Inn does a great job. The staff is very responsive and helpful. The location is great and overall it is a good place to stay

As soon as we learned our route would take us to Maine, my wife stated she wanted lobster. I researched area hotels and decided on this one and booked it over the internet. The staff was very friendly and helpful, recommending several restaurants and providing a map of the area. The rooms were very spacious and the beds were comfortable. It offered coffee maker, microwave and mini-fridge. The fridge was larger than mini, which we appreciate. Breakfast was a typical Choice Hotel breakfast, tasty and plentiful. Should we ever visit Bar Harbor again, we will definitely stay here.

Stayed 1 night. Front desk staff were very helpful in recommending restaurants. Nice breakfast included. Overall very good value for the money.
If convenience and reasonable price is what you are looking for then this is a good choice. But it is a basic motel with parking in front of the room. Not a luxury property.

Room Tip: Good choice for bikers - park in front of your room.

The hotel has clean, remodeled rooms. The staff was super friendly and helpful. It is a short walk to downtown shopping and restaurants. We really enjoyed the pretty pool area for our wine and cheese. There is not a real view of the harbor but you can see the ocean and moutains through the trees.

This is an older motel that has been remodeled to a certain extent. It is clear it is used a great deal. The room was clean and comfortable for two. We chose not to have housekeeping service one of the three days we stayed so put the "do not disturb" sign on the door. When we returned to the room, there was a note on the door stating that they respected the privacy we requested but if there was anything we wanted or needed, to let the front desk know. Nice touch. The balcony was private which was nice to enjoy on a hot day. It is close enough to town to walk and there are sidewalks all the way. Good exercise. Many hotels are farther away from town and would have been a difficult walk. I'm not sure the room was real secure. We had no problem, but doors were to the outside on the back of the hotel. Breakfast was horrible. We tried to eat there one morning; the next morning we walked into town to purchase a real meal. The breakfast area was drab and questionably clean. The food was terrible. The room price was quite expensive for an older hotel, but compared to other hotels in the area, it was probably considered "cheap". Staff was friendly in all encounters. If you are looking for a place to stay and not really be in the room much, it's okay.

Room Tip: There is no elevator so if you have trouble with stairs, be sure you are on the first floor.

This is a very basic motel but it did serve its purpose for our short 2 night stay. The room was on the second floor with a balcony. Clean room and bathroom. Air conditioner was adequate and it was nice to have a safe in the room. We received a very friendly welcome upon checkin and the staff was very friendly. It was a good 10 minute walk down to Maine st. And they way back is uphill. Like I said, it served our purpose to check out the area for 2 nights, but if I were doing an extended stay, I would definitely stay somewhere with a bayview and nicer amenities.

3 of 5 stars Reviewed September 8, 2013

Hoping to spend a quality vacation with my family before sending my children back to college, we booked this hotel. When I arrived 10 PM, the front office was locked. Luckily, my husband had gotten there before they had closed, as we drove up in two cars. So I had to use my cell phone to figure out which room we had booked and knock on the room door to get in. The parking lot is directly outside the room - no grass, just cars pulled right up to the doors which does make it very convenient to leave, which we did the next morning. I realized upon shutting the door that one of the locks did not work and you could see light coming in from under the door - not a good seal. The rooms probably were not too secure. While the room was clean, it was too small to fit our family of five with two queen beds and a cot (uncomfortable). The toilet seat was low to the ground like those in kindergarten. The sink was too high. The tub was very shallow. It looks like they tried to reface an old motel with a granite counter top and new shower rods, but the bathroom still lacked luxury. Before we left, we tried the breakfast and were very disappointed. First, the breakfast area was dreary. There was ongoing construction in one area with construction debris and tools present. In the dining are was a sign posted,"please pour the liquid contents down the sink" - indicating to guests to dispose of their drinks in the sink near the area where the food was offered. This sounds a bit unsavory. All the offerings were commercial - cheap white bread, sugary cereals, watered down juices. I opted for the packaged oatmeal, which would have tasted much better in a glass bowl than the styro foam bowls they offered. The hot foods were cheesy omelets and some sausage dish - both looked fatty and greasy to me. When I spent some time in the front office computer - wedged into a small closet off the front desk, I overheard the front desk employees dealing with other issues other guests had. While they tried to make the best of it, the hotel lacked so much in quality. It was also set quite far from the main part of town so much of one's vacation would have been spent either walking to town, taking the bus, or trying to park the car in one of the expensive lots down the road. For just a few dollars more last minute, we were able to relocate in the heart of town to a much larger room, with a far superior breakfast, nice lobby, swimming pool, more comfortable beds, convenient parking and more security.

I am sorry to hear that your stay was not up to your expectations. Due to multiple issues it would be much better to discuss this with you in person so please feel free to contact me so we can address your concerns. We do however has a 24 hour desk staff so if the door was locked at your arrival at 10pm I can only assume that the sole desk clerk had to leave briefly to take care of a guest issue and it would have been unlocked right after. Therefore again we are here 24 hours and happy to disucs your futher issues.
