The Makaha Surfside is awesome!! It's like staying on an island paradise, it's tranquil, beautiful and the staff including security is so helpful! I can't wait to go back. I've heard it used to be a run down building but it has been beutifully restored, the grounds are tropical and well kept. We had the best oceanview from our room, better than a $300.00 room at the Marriott. Great food in town and the fresh fish next door at the harbor was the best I've ever had. The surfside is awesome!!

I just loved it! I enjoyed it so very much that I just bought a unit there. For all the people that stayed and didn't enjoy it I am so sorry for you. The security gaurds and friendly and go out of there way to make you feel comfortable and safe. The parking is a little tight and the units are small but nothing compares to sitting in my livingroom and listening to the ocean waves crash against the shore everynight. The grounds are incredibly clean, and the property as a whole is peaceful. I can't imagine why anyone wouldn't enjoy staying at Surfside.

I agreed with all previous negative postings. This place is really really a joke. The unit I rented was about 285sq (very small) for $1300. The only thing close by that you can walk to about 2 blocks away is 7-eleven. Do not walk at night (scary area).

Security guards at this place have nothing to do. They constantly walk around the building and checking up on everyone. They look into each unit to search for suspicious activities. I felt very uncomfortable most of the time.

At check-in, the guard only issue a temporary parking pass for two weeks at a time. They asked for every single paperwork that you can think of. When I came back to obtain another two-week pass, it was like I'm bugging them. They were rude and not friendly at all.

Anyway, take my advice and try to find another place. If you're going to Waikiki, it is worth to spend a little extra and stay in Waikiki. Makaha is about one hour drive (without traffic) to Waikiki.

We lived there for a few months when we first got to island with the military and I can not say how bad this place is. We were majorly ripped off on the price 1250.00 for a small one b/r. No one was friendly and was i wouldn't/couldn't go out at night. When we moved no one helped me as i was alone and just watched. Security is a freaking joke they write you a ticket for every little thing that you can do. STAY AWAY FROM THIS PLACE!!!!!
