We took Grandma to Paradise Cove for her first time trip to Hawaii. We were highly disappointed. We purchased the deluxe package to make sure Grandma was taken care of. First, get there early!!! The lines for the pre-dinner activities get REALLY long. The staff did not seem to want to be there. No real smiles, very production line-ish. The pig is a joke - the one out of the ground and the one you eat are VERY distant relatives. The pork we at was dry and extremely salty. My husband and I had been to several luau shows on Maui and never had food like this. The chicken was seriously KFC tasting. Then the kicker - in the deluxe package the food comes pre-plated. Some of these items actually come in the same little cups you get samples in at Costco. That would have been okay if I was tasting at Costco, but not okay for $100+ per person at a Luau. The food was cold. The deserts had the quality of day old baked goods. I cannot express how bad this was. If you decide you want to waste money and time, then at least get the deluxe package because the drinks are brought to you and you do not need to stand in long lines and your pictures are brought to you thus avoiding the horrible mob scene at the end of the night. The show was not the best. The lady that is the "narrator" needs to retire. Reminded me of a bad review show from the sixties my parents told me about in Vegas. But this show was nothing like the shows in vegas, it was low level entertainment.
All in all, when grandma, who had a luau on her bucket list, turns to you and says "that was disappointing" you know it was bad. It broke my heart to have taken her to such an awful event.
By the way, we did not take a bus, drove the 5 minutes. So we did not have the bus drivers which seem to be the best part of this ordeal. I cannot emphasize enough how bad this truly is. They should be ashamed of the product they are delivering. Please pay attention to the bad reviews, we are trying to warn you. This is not worth the money. Basically you are paying $100+ for a view. They need to close up and start over. This is not a good example of the Aloha spirit of Hawaii. Consider yourself warned.
