“A fun, friendly luau”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed February 13, 2013

Germaine's is not a glitzy, slick luau. Rather, it's homey, friendly & fun. It's location is not in Honolulu. It is on the beach in Kapolei, about 1/2 hour from Honolulu. We had a car and were directed to arrive around 5:00-5:15, before the buses. The luau is open seating, so getting there before the buses is a great suggestion!
The bar opened at 6 and the show started around 6:45 or so. Dinner included three drink tickets, but some fancy drinks required two tickets. No problem, the mai-tais were one ticket and the bartenders never scrimped on the alcohol.

Dinner was served buffet style and there was plenty of food: koloa pig, chicken, fish, rice, poi, salads, etc. Plates were cardboard and utensils were plastic, but they worked.

The show was a typical luau show, but they did get guests up on stage a few times to add to the fun. It was a fun, good-quality show, but the highlight was the fire dancer. He was excellent.

Cost for the show was $78, but discounts were plentiful. Just ask around. AAA also had a discount.

“Glad we did it once”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed February 11, 2013

Hmm, let me just say that it's a very touristy thing to do and since this was my husband's first time on the island, we decided to do a luau. We were staying on the opposite side of the island so we drove to the luau. At first we thought we were lost because it is among a group of warehouses and manufacturing buildings, but eventually we found the secluded beach that the luau is on. Our event was delayed 15 minutes because the buses were late...and boy were there buses! Five big buses pulled in and all the Honolulu visitors got off. Some of the usual events were delayed and incorporated into the evening later, which turned out fine. The food was good, but it's always an interesting experience standing in a line with your paper plate and plastic fork waiting to drop some food on your plate.

The emcee and hostess seemed very nice, but all I could think of was that they do this every night and I'm sure they'd like to call the performance in. The emcee had a nice announcer voice which unfortunately made me think of Don Pardo, although the emcee seemed very sincere.

I appreciated the family aspect of the show with just the smallest amount of what I would term inappropriateness and lots of audience participation.

It was a nice evening sharing food at a picnic table and watching people much more talented that I am.

“Really Good Fun”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed February 10, 2013

Although it is a bit touristy and cheesy rather than being 'authentic' it is really good fun! You start on a bus (at about 4pm) and we were greeted by Cousin Kai, a New Zealander who was really funny and got everyone in the mood. The Luau is on a secluded beach which is nice and everyone who is bussed in sits on long picnic tables. The food (which you queue up for like a canteen) is barbecued pork and salad - basic but nice! You're given drinks vouchers for cocktails (which are really nice but strong so we were tipsy quite quick!) There is then loads of traditional dancing from all the islands and plenty of audience participation. You then get the bus back to your hotel by about 10pm. Overall it's really good fun.

“Must Do while visiting Oahu”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed February 5, 2013 via mobile

Went out on a Sat night and loved every aspect of the night. It was fun and had a great party type atmosphere. The people on our table made the night so pick where you sit wisely. Food was great and we were able to be served quickly. Definately entertaining and worth going. We had Chad as our bus host and he went out of his way to check on us throughout the night ensuring we were enjoying everything. Definately put this on your list of things to do. Our favourite night out on our trip.

“Worth the trip”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed February 1, 2013 via mobile

I read all the reviews on most of the luau's you could go too and chose this one. Sure you can say it is in an industrial area but once your there you wouldn't know unless you went looking. The bus tour, we had Cousin Greg (with two G's) was entertaining and provided lots of information. The ceremonies and food were also good. They entertained you which is what we wanted. Drink vouchers were sufficient for the night unless you planned to get waisted.
