“Awesome vacation!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed April 13, 2007

This is a beautiful relaxing place to stay. I little bit of a drive to Honolulu, but well worth it in peace and quite. The city is very metropolitan, nice shops and restaurants, very little parking is available so be prepared to pay to park. Park in hotel parking and have a drink at their bar and they will validate your parking. We parked for a couple of hours and it cost about $24, could have had a couple drinks instead and saved the parking fee.
The beach in Honolulu is crazy, and packed with people and a surfing dog or two. Pretty cute! It made going home to the Beach Club even more inviting with the beautiful beach walk, and gorgeous sunsets and occasional rainbow. There is construction, and with that a little noise, but not too noticable and certainly did not detract from a great resort. We are lucky to have friends who own at this resort, and that gave us the opportunity to experience the view from the 11th floor. We stayed in an emaculate two-bedroom suite, with exceptional decor and all the amenities we needed to stay forever. We enjoyed the buffet breakfast at the JW better than the Beach Club, but at $30 pp, we only did that a few times and had breakfast at the Beach Club a few times. It was more limited, but about 1/2 the cost.
Restaurants are limited in the area, but it isn't difficult to find places, and very easy to cook on-site, either in room or at the bbq's near the pool. I can't think of anything to complain about, except that eventually we had to go home and back to work!
Stay if you want a beautiful, relaxing holiday. Stay away if you want crowded beaches and a wild night life. For that stay in Honolulu. Loved it, can't wait to go back!

Just returned from a week at this great property. We are Marriott Vacation Club owners on Maui and love that property, but this property is head and shoulders over Maui. At the Maui Ocean club there are times when it feels very crowded and you can't get a lounge chair, the villias at Maui are also converted hotel rooms with a small kitchenette - at Ko Olina you get the purpose built villa with the full kitchen, soaking tub, etc. The only minor complaint is only one bath if you are renting the one bedroom, where Maui has two baths in the one bedroom - but that was really not a big deal for our small family of 3. The Villas at Ko Olina are beautiful with top of the line fixtures, and the most comfortable beds you will experience. Some have written here that Ko Olina is too quite, it's true there is not much night life but if you want a relaxing vacation with family, plenty to do, great dining options then this the resort for you. There are two medium size swimming pools that have plenty of shade, sun if wanted, and most important enough lounge chairs that you don't need to fight over them or arrive at 7 am! We were here over Easter week, the property was fully occupied and we never had trouble getting three lounge chairs together in sun or shade, the place never seemed crowded. A Nice thing about Ko Olina is that there are two restaurants on site, the pool restraint which serves B'fest, Lunc, and dinner - food pretty good, typical resort type prices. There is also a new steak place on site that just opened, we did not try on this trip. A lot of MVCI's don't have restaurants other then the Market Place, so this is a nice change. The JW Marriott is right next door and they also have several restaurants with charge privileges for Beach Club guests. The famous Roy's is also just across the street, so there are plenty of places to eat. Don't worry about the drive to Honolulu, 20 minutes tops - no big deal - but you will need a rental car. This is a great property for a family or couple that want a quieter vacation at a beautiful resort with typical friendly Marriott service and

I was suspicious of the Marriott Rewards Package offered back in July 2006. I'm very pleased that I booked it. Although they'd like you to take advantage of a time share presentation, it wasn't high pressure. We didn't participate.

Property is first rate

Need to be above 5th floor for ocean view - request it. Do not take a golf course view - we heard it was noisy with traffic - or industrial park view. We had a 3rd floor room with a peek of the ocean. Lots of construction nearby but not noisy.

Safeway and another store (Malama?) is exit 2 from Honolulu and exit 1B from Ko Olina. Dairy prices are very high - be prepared. Outdoor gas grills are great - we used them daily.

Lagoons are large and calm but snorkeling is so so - saw a turtle and a few fish. Went to Honauma Bay - better fish but the marine life was not nearly as good as the other islands

We were here over spring break - all families with lots of young kids (under 10) so night life is lite. We had kids too.

We did the nearby Paradise Cove Luau - quite expensive but our kids (8 and 10) liked participating in the pre-show events (take lots of tip money). I wouldn't have really liked it except for the kids' experience. Food was average except for the pork which was out of this world. We purchased the royal (?) package for a center view based on others' recommendations. I think the wing view with buffet service would have been just fine - especially if you've done a luau before

We drove up to the north shore and did horse back riding at the Turtle Bay Resort (very outdated). We had fabulous, up close ocean views and shady jungle experiences - one of the best trail rides ever - about $50/adult - worth the trip if you have kids who love horses.

Beach club pools were great - try the shave ice at the pool hut. A small size is plenty. (it's like a snow cone)

Went to the Aloha Stadium Swap meet - t shirts, leis, nuts etc

Beach club self park is $10/day and you have to pay the tax on the rental car in the package. We got upgraded to a full size at no charge.

Hospitality was great - would highly recommend staying here and I'm quite picky!

Checkout time is 10am and with a late night flight to the mainland, we are planning to spend much of the day in Honolulu.

  • Liked — Great value with the reward package deal
  • Disliked — Even though we upgraded to a suite with a full kitchen, food was still costly vs an all inclusive

Just returned from a 7 night stay at KOBC. While there is some construction going on next door, the noise was pretty unobtrusive most of the time. You will need a car unless you are content to stay at the resort the whole time. We used ours to drive to the Safeway at Kapolei for breakfast and lunch supplies and just ate out for dinners. Even the efficiency units have microwave, mini-fridge, toaster and coffee maker. There are also very nice gas grills down by the pool where you can grill steaks, etc.
Just by asking, we were given an ocean view on the 11th floor of the newer tower. All rooms in that tower have very comfy king size beds. The lanai is a bit small, but does have room for the smallish table and two chairs. There are two good size pools shared by the two towers. My only gripe was there was often excessive kid noise at both pools. I would prefer one pool be designated for adults only.
We did attend a sales pitch for these pricey units but it was very professional with virtually no sales pressure. Seeing a model unit was helpful, since we were staying in the smaller "lock-off" unit.
The staff was wonderful and very helpful with everything from driving directions to dinner reservations. The resort is very well run and kept clean and tidy. The one time we asked for fresh towels they arrived within minutes. The facilities seem to be sized correctly for the resort. Although occupancy seemed to be about 90% we never had trouble finding lounge chairs by the pool or a grill to use.
Overall a very positive experience. Hope to return some day soon.

Our Marriott stay was fantastic. Front desk staff was very welcoming. We were on the 4th floor with a partial ocean view. Our suite was very large and had all the comforts of home. The bedroom was spacious, tv, warm colors, feather bed pillows and very comfortable bed and bedding. The bath and shower were very large and spotlessly clean as well as the rest of the suite. The living, dining and kitchen were very nice with a lanai and large picture windows and sliding door. Modern appliances and fully equip. kitchen. Two beautiful swimming pools, 4 jacuzzis, a beach lagoon with lounge chairs and unbelievable sunsets to enjoy. We enjoyed happy hour each day from 3-5 at the beachfront rest. and lounge. The food was very good as were the drinks. Try a Keylime Kolada fantastic! They also made virgin drinks for our teens that were very tasty. The landscaping was very lovely, lots of palm trees, waterfalls, walkways to enjoy. We would definitely stay here the next time we visit Oahu.

  • Liked — Spacious, Cleaniness, Comfortable bed and views
  • Disliked — AC was cooler in the living room then the bedroom.

This was an incredible resort. The staff were wonderful, the grounds were beautiful. The rooms itself was spectacular! My only complaint was that we, literally, overlooked the parking garage. But I still give the Ko Olina an excellent review, as that was the only downside of our 5 nights there. The room itself was so nice, with a full kitchen, washer/ dryer and georgous granite. The bathroom was marble. I would love for my house to look so nice.

The lagoons are beautiful. They are numbered 1-4, with 1 being by the JW Marriott and the Ko Olina Beach Club being by lagoon 3. Lagoon 1 is where they do the fish feeding at 7:30am every morning. Lagoon 2 is rumored to have visiting turtles-we didn't spend enough time at that lagoon to see any. Tip for future travelers-past lagoon 4 there is a marina that has a little store. The store has very basic breakfast for under $5 and the store prices are cheaper than the resort store-saves a little money.

Also, the JW Marriott has outdoor pools that house sharks and sting-rays. Really cool for the kiddies to see. Personally I thought that the JW was very sterile and cold. Just my personal observation.

Back to the beach club-the pools are great-sandy beach entry with fake lava for the younger crowd, basketball hoop for the tweenies and a separate pool that seemed to cater to the older crowd. Never had a problem finding pool lounges.

There seemed to be entertainment every night we were there, from the Mai Tai party to musicians at the beach restaurant.

This resort is quite a bit off the beaten path. The traffic to and from Waikiki during rush hour can rival metro DC traffic (my stomping ground), which was a little surprising. We stocked up on supplies at the closest stores, about 10 minutes drive away. The hotel provided us the info on where to find the closest stores and restaurants.

Overall I think that this is one of the nicest resorts I've ever stayed at. I can overlook the horrible view in exchange for all of the wonderful amenities that this resort offers.

The resort was beautiful, clean, and the employees were helpful and kind.

We booked part of our stay in a timeshare we purchased on Ebay and then booked another two days on our own through the resort. The staff was incredibly attentive. They even recognized the name on both of our reservations and booked us in the same room for our entire stay.

We only ate at one of the restaurants at the resort because it was the only one that wasn't pricey. We enjoyed the grill down by the beach. The food was good and the view was fabulous. Most of the time we opted to cook on our own or eat out.
