“Truly Stunning, Amazing Property!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed December 30, 2012

We went to Hawaii over the Christmas holiday, 12/22-12/29 and really enjoyed it! We are not timeshare or vacation club owners, but we found an alternate route of reserving a 2 bedroom villa (mountainside) from a vacation club owner.

1 week prior to arriving at Ko'Olina, the family we rented from (they are vacation club owners) forwarded me an email with all the confirmation information, and a survey to fill out and send back to the resort with our preferences ranging from floor level, location, which building, etc...

We checked into the Ko'Olina around 5PM, and while there was a small line, it was not an issue checking in. The front desk lady was very friendly, and helped me out. We were given the 14th floor on the Naia Tower, and while it was considered a "Mountain" view, it certainly was more than that. To our left side from the balcony, we viewed mountains, then we faced the marina, and then to the right, was the views of the ocean and lagoons. Absolutely stunning views, especially waking up early in the morning to watch the sunrise!

Villa - 2 Bedroom 2 Bathroom
Full size Kitchen
Living and Dining Area
Beautiful Large Balcony from Living/Dining area
Washer/Dryer (detergent included)
Dishwasher (detergent included)
Master Suite - Full Size Bathroom, King Bed, Separate Tub and Sink Area as well
2nd Suite - Full Size Bathroom (1 sink), King Bed, Separate Seating Area, Small Balcony

Tidy Service - depending on when you check in, and how long you stay, tidy service is offered. We stayed from a Saturday to Saturday, therefore we received 1 tidy service on Wednesday. It involved changing of towels, making the bed, tidy-ing, restocking of amenities. You have the option to receive tidy service more than once during the week, but there is a charge.

Parking - I believe parking is $30/night or $35/night valet, however since we were renting from owners, our parking was included. Each tower has their own parking area. Spaces are small and narrow, but always seemed available for us.

Huge Plus - while this is a vacation club, and you will see time share presentations, no one ever approached us directly about sitting in their 90 minute presentation, which I appreciated. There never seemed to be any pressure to join. My family are timeshare owners in Mexico, and every time we visit there, we still get approached to upgrade... that being said, since Marriott Ko'Olina NEVER approached, I really appreciate that.

Beach/Walkway - lovely! We were able to walk along the pathway by the Lagoons (man made) all the way to JW Marriott. We passed Disney's Aulani Resort, and another Villa resort on the way, but the views were spectacular. Probably some of the best photos taken in Hawaii were from the resort grounds!

Restaurants - we stayed away from most of the restaurants on the Resort. We tried Longboards one evening, some had burgers and fries, I had a seafood linguine, and another had a macadamia crusted chicken dish. It looks like Longboards is good for burgers and fries, but other items on the menu, you can go without. And for a restaurant on the resort, it iwas reasonably priced.

I would recommend heading out of the resort, driving a couple miles out to Walmart and Costco, and grocery shopping that way. Prices are comparable to Mainland US if you go to Walmart and Costco. Gas is cheaper there too, if you have a rental car! Additionally, there are many restaurants around that area... Off of H1, I believe the exits are 1A and 2.

Golfing - My husband is a huge golfer, and he played at the Ko Olina Golf Course... the course itself looked stunning, he said it was a difficult course but fun. Pricing is not the cheapest, I believe it's $169/round... but if you reserve after 1PM, it's $129/round. My husband called a day before his appointment to reserve, and it didn't seem to be a problem.

Family Resort - we went to Ko Olina without any children, but this is a very family friendly resort. People looking for an "adults" only style stay should want to consider going elsewhere. We had no problem with kids running around, but I did take notice of it.

Spa - 50 Minutes $105 and then upwards, depending on what you're looking for

Convenient to visiting many areas within the island! If you have questions on where to go and what to see, please feel free to contact me!

Overall, it was a lovely stay. 15-20 Miles West of Downtown Honolulu, very easily accessible from the highway. I would highly recommend checking this out, and possibly looking for vacation owners willing to rent out their units (in order to get a better chance of a higher floor, better view, etc).

Just returned from our first trip to the Marriott Ko Olina Beach Club- We were there over Xmas and while the resort was full we did not feel "crowded". The lagoon was perfect for our family since we have older kids who want to swim out and our little one who just wants to swim close to shore. Only one day did we have trouble finding chairs for the 5 of us at the beach and never had an issue at the pool. I would say that is pretty good for xmas week. The rooms were perfect as the 2 bedrooms are a must for 5. Since we stayed longer than a week, we needed to have a room change and while the price was steep for the extra night, the transition was handled by the bell staff ( including the refrigerated and frozen foods) and we also did not have to wait for the typical 4pm check in. We also took in the Fia Fia show which was great and is right on the resort. We had dinner one night at the Disney Aulani which looked crowded and was more expensive ( we checked) Food on site was average and expensive but that is common at these resorts. Had dinner at Aulani and even the JW and they were more expensive and only average as well. Go into town and go to KOA pancake, Aloha Salads, etc.. Buy food at Costco and cook. All are better than paying steep resort prices every night. Glad we came here.. will come back.. Not a lot of singles or honeymooners.. Lots of families..

Hope this helps..

Room Tip: We stayed in a Ocean View room in the main building for 7 nights ( high floor- want to be above 5th...

i was just there on there for 4 nights and 5 days 12/22 thru 12/27. the first night i noticed blood spots on the sheets and didn't think too much of it. my son was complaining of itch which i thought was an allergic reaction. on the second night i noticed the hotel changed the sheets because the blood spots disappeared. changing sheets is unusual at this location due to the fact that marriot vacation club charges for linen change and they did this without our request.
by the third night the three of us woke up next morning and had numberous bites to leg, ankles, and feet. the total bites were over 30 combined. i notified the front desk and they sent over a lame housekeeper that suggested that we let mosquitos in by opening sliding door during the night. the doors were closed all night.
i showed her all the bite marks and then she started inspecting and removing all coverings on the the bed and ordered all linens to be replaced. i showed her blood spots on the linens and she just ignored my findings.
we were offered a room change but i was already on the other side of the island. in order for marriot to honor the room change, i had to act immediately so they can clean our room and rent it to another guest because they were sold out. housekeeping supervisor sent a insect inspector and i was told they found nothing. the last night we were contemplating leaving to another hotel. the supervisor assured us that there were no bugs and all linens were changed so we stayed the 4th night.
when we woke up... more bites.
this was the first time i have ever experience this kind of issue at any hotel, motel, or inn.
poor response to issues...

The Marriott Ko Olina was nice but it just wasn't a "Wow" experience. Angel who welcomed guests in the pool area had the aloha spirit as did the chamber maid who thanked us for staying at the hotel as that enabled her to have a decent job. Otherwise it was just OK. The food at Longboard's Restaurant was overcooked when we ate seafood there for dinner and the lunch menu items ran about $17 for a hamburger. The poolside grill at the JW Marriott next door was far superior. My wife and I stayed at the Marriott in Bangkok in January 2012 and that experience was fantastic--we always felt welcome and were treated like honored guests and the food was excellent. The staff were phenomenal in Bangkok, in Ko Olina they acted as if this was just a job. The Hawaii experience was different, perhaps because we weren't "owners"--we hadn't bought a time share. The pool area is nice and the lagoon is cool (in more ways than one) you want to swim there on a sunny day. This resort would not be my first choice.

Love the location- we are not a Oahu people(we come to Hawaii every year but we been this island in 20 years since it is very like San Diego to me) but love ko olina it feels like it is far from hustle and bustle from busy Waikiki sin, it feels like we are in different island :) and that was best part
Lagoon is men made water is always calm and nice to swim, relax, play with send...

Although we are here over Christmas and it is full, we never feel crowded or rushed. The pools and landscape is exactly what you'd hope for at a Hawaiin resort. There is a wonderful 1.5 miles path linking several resorts in ko olina. After looking at the other resorts, we feel we have the best location by far!

My wife and I are original owners and have stayed every year during the holiday season since the property opened in 2004 and WE LOVE IT! We always get a call a week or two before our arrival to check on special needs, requests and amenities and everything we ask for is always there on arrival. The staff is always super friendly and the property is immaculate and well maintained. If you're looking for a Waikiki experience this isn't it and we're glad it isn't! Don't get me wrong-I love Waikiki in small doses and we always go into town 2-3 times during our stays for dinner and shopping, but relish the drive back to peace and serenity. This year we have an 8th floor ocean view one bedroom in the Moana Tower and it's just perfect-AS ALWAYS!
