“Nice quiet retreat”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed November 18, 2012

Ww stayed here for 5 nights in a 2 bedroom Island view suite. It had all amenities including a washer and drier and full kitchen. We had an island view on the 1st floor which was really a parking lot view, but it didn't matter to us, as we have 4 busy children and were only in our room to sleep and have the odd meal. There are 2 on-site restaurants, one high end (Chuck's) with entrees costing around $45 dollars and a medium end, more casual restaurant (Longboards) costing about $12-$15 per entree. Our family enjoyed Longboards because of hte cheaper prices, great food and nightly supper entertainment. Make sure to reserve at prime times or you have to wait about 30 mins. The beach is steps from the resort.....it actually is right on the resort. Some locals use the lagoon area for swimming, as there are 4 lagoons in the area, all within walking distance... a beautiful nightly stroll, but with the other public beaches in the area, it wasn't a trouble at all. Tuesday nights they have an on-site luau called Fia Fia and is a great family event, though expensive. There are also excursions around the island that can be booked through the concierge desk. There is also a car rental on site. The pool area was pretty good for the resort size, especialy considering you can walk straight out of the pool and onto the beach and into the ocean water. During peak periods it might get a bit crowded around the pool. All in all, a great family vacation with some much needed rest and relaxation.

For Oahu properties, this is one of the best. Location is the best. Good to be away from Waikiki to enjoy Hawaii's real beauty. There are several beach lagoons so there's a path for walking or jogging. People are friendly, the weather is great, the pools are plentiful. I go here almost every year while visiting family and I used to live on Oahu so I know the type of hotels available there. It's also one of the better Marriott Vacation Clubs.

We've been to several Marriott resorts and this is the most beautiful and well run of all. The grounds are amazing, the 'villas' are very well appointed. The staff is friendly and helpful - in fact, they seem to really enjoy their work. The beach is nice, but very small, built on a man-made lagoon, so no long beach walks, but there are trails within the Ko Olina neighborhood, so you can have some nice walks. Usually we find the 'resort activities' uninteresting, but the offerings at this resort were very nice - hula lessons, a plant walk around the resort and a lei making class, just to name a few. I would give it five stars but for the following: there are no reasonably priced restaurants in Ko Olina. I looked at the menus of all of the full service restaurants and they were shocking. It was either pay a fortune for a full service restaurant, or have a salad, sandwich or taco at the little cafes. The other bothersome thing was that I had read a review by another TA contributor who said that the view from his villa was a garage, so we opted for the more expensive 'ocean view'. You can, indeed, be placed in a villa with a view of a garage. However, paying extra for an ocean view does not guarantee you an unobstructed view of the ocean. Our 'ocean view' consisted of 1/4 the marina close by (beyond which there was an oil tank farm and some construction cranes) 1/2 of the villa tower next door and 1/4 the ocean. In my mind 'ocean view' should be a grand, unobstructed view of the ocean, but then, maybe I am too literal! There are some reasonably priced restaurants in Kapolei, but not many unless you want to go to a chain restaurant - why go all the way to Hawai'i to eat at a Chili's? The spa looked lovely, but the prices were prohibitive, so we decided to wait until we got home for a relaxation massage.

Room Tip: Ask about the view - you may or may not get a room with a good view.

Nice location on the west side of Oahu. Just far enough from downtown Honolulu craziness... We had a beautiful 2 bedroom unit with tons of room for 3 adults and 2 kids. Comfy beds.

Pool with water slides was in the shade 90% of the day due to placement in front of tower. Lagoon not crowded and easy and safe to swim/snorkel in for kids.

Easy walk to other 3 lagoons or down to Disney Aulani to look around.

Good food at reasonable prices at Longboards restaurant on site.

15 min walk to Island Market (w/ ABC store inside) for some grocery basics and lots of premade sandwiche. There is an amazing Hawaiian BBQ joint in the same shopping center with awesome Kalbi ribs, Mochiko chicken, and Moco Loco.

Target, Walmart, Safeway and Costco just 10 min drive away and 25 min to Pearl Harbor.

Clean suite, plenty of room for our party of 7 with two bedrooms and two sofa sleepers. The kitchen was fully appointed allowing us to cook our meals, and the washer and dryer in room where perfect to help us keep up with our laundry. There were many gas grills available for guests, and markets close buy helped us keep costs down for meals. Staff was friendly and accommodating (asking for extra towels constantly never was a problem) and the bartenders and wait staff were always helpful. Over all, a great experience! Make sure your room is facing the lagoon towards the Disney property.
It's the best view in town!

CHECK IN: Arrived at 11AM in the morning knowing that check in was at 4 and the room would not be ready. We pulled up to the circle where the lobby is, nobody came over. We pulled our luggage out of the car, nobody came over. I went to the bellman/valet stand to ask what to do with the luggage and car and was told "we'll be right over". 15 minutes later, still nobody came over. We walked our luggage over and had to hand them the keys ourselves. We requested that they NOT put our luggage in storage because if we were allowed to use the facilities we wanted to pull ou bathing suits outto change. Check in was fast, because the person that checked us in gave us absolutely no information other than rooms not ready, here are keys so you can use the facilities, here's a map, we'll call you. We then proceeded to go back to the bellman stand and our luggage was gone. Another girl told us it had to be brought over to the tower where we were going to be staying, hotel policy. Would have been nice had the girl told us that when we requested it not be done. She brought us to the luggage storage area in the other building so we could get our suits. Before we went and changed, I went back to the front desk to see if we could get an estimated time the rooms would be ready. The man checked, said it was not ready yet. I told him I was not looking for the room, just a time estimate. He didn't have any clue. 4PM. I used to work in a hotel, when a guest would ask, we would radio housekeeping and they usually could give us a time...not this place...standard answers only. We asked for directions to the locker rooms to change. He waived his arm in a direction and said over there. It was down the stairs, down the path, but yet he couldn't even say that. They called around 2:30 to say our room was ready.

GROUNDS; Fabulous. Everything is very pretty, clean. Pools are great, plenty of chairs. Beach is great, plenty of chairs. No complaints about the property at all.

ROOM: Great. Plenty of room. Everything was clean. No complaints at all!

CHUCKS STEAKHOUSE; Went for dinner one night. Told it would be an hour wait, it was less. Waiter spoke like he would rather be somewhere else. Told us the specials like he was reading an encyclopedia. Did not make anything sound interesting. Salad bar was okay. I ordered the Tuna special (with a teriyaki wasabi sauce), blackened, as did my friend (there were 6 of us dining). When they brought the meals, my friend inquired about her, saying she didn't think it was right, as Tuna is usually small and thick. This was the thinnest piece of tuna I had every seen. It looked like a chicken breast. Not a spice on it. The waiter told her that was it and then put mine in front of me. Mine was okay, nothing special, but not horrible. When the waiter came back to ask if everything was okay, my friend told them she didn't like the tuna, the sauce didn't taste teriyaki at all, just wasabi. He replied, that's because it has this on it, this on it, that on it...blah blah blah. He NEVER once asked if she wanted something else, maybe a side of regular teriyake (which another friend had with his steak). He pretty much told her tough [--], eat it. We should have asked for the manager but we were all so stunned we just paid the bill ($405) and left.

LONGBOARDS: Where we ate the rest of the trip. Great service (best on the resort), good food. I always enjoyed it.

CHECK OUT: We called at 7AM to ask for a later time as check out time is at 10AM (standard for hotels is 11AM usually). Again, not even a hesitation to say "no, hotel policy is 10AM, thanks for calling, click. Agian, a call to housekeeping to see where they were would have been nice. I doubt very much they took 4 hours to clean the 2 bedroom condo and it sat empty for at least 3 of those hours.

All in all, the hotel itself is stunning. The service was horrible. I will go to Aulani next door next time I'm in the area.

My family has been going to Ko Olina for three years now and this place is simply amazing. It is a nice little drive from the tourist filled Waikiki. The staff is very friendly and they make sure your stay is second to none. There are furnished rooms with a full kitchen (perfect to save on food costs), large rooms and a large balcony (perfect for that mid-afternoon nap). There are large areas of beaches that exemplify Hawaii at its finist. There is a very nice golf course and driving range right across the street as well.

Room Tip: Rooms that face the golf course are much cheaper and are just as nice in my opinion.
