“Marriott vacation club owner”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed July 12, 2011

I booked Oahu because plane tickets were cheaper than Kauai and Maui, which really are the best of Hawaii. We are so over Waikiki. However staying at Ko Olina we were pleasantly surprised. The grounds are very open, the views are gorgeous and the staff were wonderful. You really need to rent a car if you stay here. Costco, Target and Safeway about 8 minutes away. We stocked up the first day because we did not want to eat on the property. Longboards restaurant was such a rip off, but we were waiting for our 4 pm check in and we had no choice. Food and drinks was not very good. We drove a couple of days to North Shore. Turtle Beach was awesome. Matsumoto shaved ice a must. Spent a day at Pearl Harbor and Dole Plantation.
One day getting surfing lessons at Waikiki. If you've always wanted to surf this is the place to learn. When you wipe out you fall into 3 feet of warm water and soft sand.
We did the Fia Fia Luau... Our comp for listening to the timeshare. Pretty good food and show was entertaining. My 7 year old was mezmerized.

Overall a great vacation.

Overall, we had a very nice week long stay at Marriott's Ko Olina Beach Club. The property is pretty, the rooms are large and well kept up, the service was good (Tina, the concierge should get some sort of medal for her enthusiasm!), the gym is great, and the pools are fun. The best part of the property by far, is the series of lagoons, each of which is a quiet little oasis on the ocean. We rented snorkel gear and had a great time exploring the reefs and looking at tropical fish. Considering how crowded and noisy the pool areas were, I was surprised by how relatively empty the beach was. There were always plenty of lounge chairs available --and the views were seriously beautiful!

As nice as the property is, we had a couple of issues. As other have said, the restaurants onsite are very expensive and pretty mediocre. It's a resort, so I get why they are going to be expensive, but If you're gonna charge a lot of money, the food should be good and none of the restaurants on site were great. The Marketplace has sandwiches and snacks which is convenient, and there are grills on site to cook up lunches and dinners, but if you're not in the mood to cook yourself every day, you're limited. There isn't much food within walking distance except for Roy's (which is great/expensive) and in the new shopping center down the road which is still mostly vacant (a long, but do-able walk.)

At the shopping center, we ate a couple of times at the mexican place called Just Tacos, which was good and pretty affordable (and has more than "just tacos!") I think that when the Disney resort opens soon, the shopping center will fill up quickly and there will be a lot more food options. So this issue might just take care of itself.

The biggest issue I have with Ko Olina is the location. We picked it because we didn't want to be smack in the middle of Waikiki, but Ko Olina is so remote -- isn't near anything! So definitely rent a car and expect to drive AT LEAST a 30-40 minute drive to any attractions except for golf (ie: Waikiki, Pearl Harbor, horseback riding.) Also, don't expect a scenic drive. It's highways all the way.

So overall, we thought it was a nice property with a few flaws... but if they don't seem like flaws to you, then you'll have an excellent stay.

It's July 10th we arrives yesterday, great Vacation location without all the noise of the city and crowd. The check in line took forever, there were 6 CSR checking guest in it took us apps 45min to get to the counter. Marriott needs to have more staff at check in, especially when 15-20 guest are checking in.

The staff here are all extremely
friendly and helpful with the Aloha
Charm.
The weather is just perfect, it's in the 80s with a nice
breeze. The beach on prooerty is not crowded amd the
Water nice and warm in the lagoon.
Target and Costco are only 10 minutes away with lots of
other shops and restaurant.
FYI : I traded one of my weeks with II, all exchanged
weeks are assigned floors 1-5 only. I insisted on a higher
floor advised 6 And above are for owners and those
renting directy From Marriott. Even though the week
deposited by owner of Ko Olina was a platinum week.
We are looking firsts to the next 7 days to go slow to
enjoy our vacation.
We will be back again for labor day week 2011.
We own 6 Marriott properties including Newport Coast I would have
to rate this one the best Marriot Resorts. We only stay at Marriott timeshares when on vacation even trading only Marriott, my standards are high along with Marriott's 5 star.

Enjoy your vacation here. We had Rain twice today which was nice but unexpected. We will be back every 2 years have to to to Maui and Aruba too.

We are here to relax and do nothing this is the place to do that. Our 5,10,11 year olds are having ao much fun and enjoying the resort.

We own a lot of M

Can't say enough good things about this place. Great service...friendly staff. Lost track of how many pools and jacuzzi's. One Lagoon onsite...and others within walking distance. There is so much to do...activities for families etc. Barbecue/grilling area...great and cleaned daily. Great resources for planning day trips/sight seeing. Had full kitchen, washer dryer and monstrous king size bed...balcony with great view. Beautiful views. Restaurant - Longboard's is quite expensive but if you hit them up for drinks during happy hour 3-5pm, not too bad.

This is a grat place for families. But quiet enough for couples who want to relax as well. The rooms are perfect with two large rooms living area with pull out sofa full kitchen and washer/dryer. There is plenty to do in the area but the best thing we did was snorkel with our three kids 8, 13, 14 in the calm crystal clear lagoon right down the path from our building. The hotel did not feel busy or crowded and we had hours of fun checking out the fish. Im not really the fake lagoon type but this was dome right and had a very natural feel to it that allowed us to explore in a safe and relaxed way. The fitness center was really nice and centrally located which made it easy for my husband and I to take turns working out. We bought some food/ snacks at Target a few miles away and stocked the refrigerator. We had an awesome dinner at Roys which serves high end fusion bit also accommodated the little one. Everyone was friendly and kind. Golf course is right there and you can shuttle over if you don't want to move the car. There are also other restaurants really close by. We drove to the north shore one day great day trip.
This hotel is awY from the touristy areas but still full service and Marriott-ish.

Ko Olina is a great spot for families. The pools are great for kids, as are the lagoons. There are sufficient dining options at a variety of price points - We tried them all. The concierge ( Tina for us) was super helpful. The bartenders were great. Sites in Oahu are spread out, so you need a car. Ko Olina was 20 - 60 minutes from anything you may want to do.
