“Fantastic experience in heaven”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed July 18, 2013

A 600 sqft room with a magnificent view of the sunset! Wanna go back! Took time to enjoy the sunset every day. Ask for a view on the west side away from the pool facing paradise cove. The property is pristine and magnificent. Took about 500 photos on site. The service quality was as high as it can be. Very Hugh end restaurants on the property, awesome spring rolls in the poolside bar. Only disappointment was parking price of $35 a night, not cool. Pool not impressive for a JW, but good beachside services. Umbrella rental $30 for 4 hours was great! Enjoy your stay.

Thank you for your review. The JW Marriott Ihilani Resort & Spa is indeed a special place for sunsets as it is truly an outer island experience on Oahu, which is part of what attracts many of our guests. Thank you sharing that amazing photo you captured of the sunset. For your next stay, we invite you try our SpeediShuttle services on property to explore, shop, play and dine at some of the island’s most special and memorable venues and attractions. We look forward to welcoming you back soon. Aloha and kindest regards.

OK, so here is the deal. The JW at Ko'Olina is located on a beautiful man made lagoon. The lagoon is protected from large waves so it is great for kids. The big beach is fun for sun and for play. The location is the real attraction to this JW. The hotel itself is very nice. The rooms are big bu the pool is a bit small and uninspiring compared to Disney's Aulani and Marriott's vacation club resort also located at Ko'Olina. You will enjoying staying here because it is in Hawaii, it is a convenient drive to the north shore, it has a great beach, the rooms are big, and there is a Starbuck's in the lobby. The Sunday brunch is good.

Thank you for your review. We sincerely apologize for your disappointment with the size of the pool and regret that this was not your impression. As our guest at the JW Marriott Ihilani Resort & Spa, were elated to hear that you enjoyed the spacious and well appointed guest rooms, beach front location, and relaxing setting. Thank you again for your review and we hope to see you in the future. Aloha and best regards.

We are loyal Marriott members and use Marriott for business and vacation travel. We have stayed at various JW Marriott's and do not believe this property lives us to the luxury standard of most JW's. There is a Marriott Vacation Beach Club right around the corner, Marriotts Ko Olina Beach Club, whose property is much much nicer, and I believe would be a better choice based on location, property, and service offerings. The JW property looks like it was a property that Marriott took over because it is not designed like your typical Marriott and has the feel of an older hotel, even though everything looks new. It is right next to the Disney property which made the ocean swim area a bit crowded with kids. One of the nice things about the resort though, is that it has a complimentary shuttle that you can ride to visit other resorts and restaurants in the general area. It also has a great walking trail that goes along the beach and other resorts (like the Marriott Vacation Club). We saw a monk seal beach itself one morning as we walked the trail. We found that the food was very good there but the beach bar was very limited in it's selection of beach cocktails. The staff even admitted that many of the drinks we asked for were made from a mix and not that good. Oddly enough, the Italian restaurant at the JW (open only for dinner) and the Marriott Vacation Club both had extensive beach cocktail menus. We spent the day on the beach at the Marriott Vacation Club and rented chairs/umbrellas. We also ate lunch at the Beach Bar there called Longboards, and the food was really good. They have a happy hour every afternoon, which I would highly recommend. Back to the JW...the rooms were large and very nicely done but they skimped on things like having single ply cheap toilet paper (don't laugh...they had nice TP in the lobby bathroom!). We had an ocean view room which looked out over the lagoon and ocean and was beautiful. We did not hear any construction from the Disney property next door. We were up on the 14th floor. Service at the hotel was great and the staff was very friendly and helpful. I thought the pool was very small given the size of the resort but it was very close to the restaurant and lobby, so you did not have to walk that far if you had to run up to the room.

We spent two nights at this property and had a great time. We stayed in an ocean view deluxe room (1118) and the room was fantastic, with an incredible view. Perfect for a family of five! The drive up to the resort is fairly unassuming (Disney resort on one side and a parking garage on the other), but once in the lobby the Hawaiian vibe kicks in. The kids loved the pool (although a concern was a high amount of chlorine - my daughters hair had hints of green after two days) and the lagoons provided great fun for all. The location is pretty good; away from the hustle and bustle of Honolulu, but not too far where you can't get to sights like the North Shore or Pearl Harbor quickly. This was a great way for us to start our Hawaiian vacation after a long flight from the mainland, before venturing off to other islands. We were lucky enough to be there on the 4th of July to catch amazing fireworks!!!

Room Tip: Ocean view...looking over "where heaven meets earth". A lagoon view might be good too, but...

I enjoyed this wonderful property to the fullest. It is in a great location and is incredibly relaxing. Loved the stingray and shark pools and the wonderful beaches and lagoons. Great staff and service. The rooms were beautiful and relaxing and we had a great ocean view. I want to come back again as soon as possible.

We spent one night at your amazing hotel with my sister and her family and my brother and his family. We were fortunate enough to stay in an ocean-side deluxe suite. It was AMAZING. The room was enormous and the decor flawless. The view and the sounds of the ocean were totally over the top. We loved the pool and the pool-side service. My husband and I enjoyed an early morning dip in the beautiful, warm lagoon. We would love to go back!

Pros/Positives: the location, the room with a view, the holiday decorations at Christmas time, the professional grade juicer in the dining room, and the chocolate chip cookies in the gift shop.

Location: Located on a man made lagoon. The lagoon is shared by the Disney resort. Also though we could not participate in most Disney activities, we did take a pictures with Mickey Mouse in a Hawaiian shirt while walking around the resort. We also ate at one of the Disney Restaurants on Christmas Day (make reservation as soon as possible if you plan to dine).

Hotel Room - loved the expansive room, large closet and bathroom. There was a great work space/desk for all our electronics and gadgets. I loved the room's balcony that was furnished with a table and large flat double-wide chaise for laying out and enjoying the view. Our room over looked the lagoon and pool. Each evening we sat on the balcony and enjoyed the evening's entertainment. The singers were awesome. I still remembered being serenaded by a talented singer who sang the holiday songs with a Rock and Roll beat. The most memorable was the Hawaiian version of "Somewhere over the Rainbow" acapella with only a ukulele.

Bonus: From my room I could see couples getting married in spectacular gowns and tux at the Disney Resort. I love weddings.

Walking trails and paths. This property is part of a string of 4-5 individual connected lagoons. So each morning you can walk around the JW Marriot property and also walk to the end of the last lagoon. The walk is lined with palm trees and great views of the sea. (Check out the Marriott Vacation Villa and Timeshare properties.)

Facility: Loved all the different colored Christmas trees decorated throughout the hotel. We took pictures in-front of all the venues. This hotel has many quiet isolated indoor/outdoor spots that you could enjoy the view of he ocean or read a book.

The hotel is bright and cheerful. I provides a feeling of being outdoors while you are inside.

The do have small pools around hotel with small sharks, manta rays, gold fish and other sea life. My son enjoyed observing the sea life each day. We did not do the $40.00 sea life call offered by the Hotel.

If you have car, Costco, Safeway, and a large waterpark is a few exits away toward Wiki.

The food is expensive, but the do have professional series juicer and provides fresh ginger, fruit, etc..

The housekeeping staff was nice and left a different type of cook each day. My son love this activity.

Cons:
The pool is unremarkable, but free.
The exercise facility is unremarkable, but free.
The distance from the airport to the resort is far.

Regarding the staff, we never really interacted with the hotel staff and did not order room service.

My housekeeper was nice, the restaurant staff was very kind (gave my son extra chocolate chip cookies even on days not served), and the staff at the gift shop was also nice.

I think we often forget the sometime language can be a barrier to great intentions.
