“Beautiful JW”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed December 5, 2012

As expected from a JW, this resort is beautiful! It is off the beaten path which makes it a great getaway spot! The private lagoon and beach is so relaxing, especially during the sunrise and sunsets! I had a wonderful ocean view room and patio of which, I left the door open all night enjoying the waves crashing - it was marvelous! The room was spacious, clean and nicely updated. I did have to go to work during my stay so I get didn't take advantage of the amenities but I did enjoy one full day at the pool/beach and it was perfect. I will note that if you don't want to be at the hotel, you do have to travel a bit to get back to civilization but the hotel definitely has everything you need (at a price typical in Hawaii).

“NFL pro bowl”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed December 2, 2012

I have stayed and have been to the JW Marriott at the Ihilani several times. The fist time I stayed there was when we were there durning the NFL pro bowl....our room was terrific, clean. Service was great....room was always clean....bathroom was huge.....great view of the pool and the lagoons....I would just sit outside on the balcony and listen to the wind in the air.....was wonderful....service was great...food great as well...adults and kids loved eating by the pool..food was great.

We have been back for the day and always had a excellent experience. Friendly staff always ready to help...got free parking if you eat there and get ticket validated. JW Marriott is always clean and it is one of my favorite hotels around. Location is great, just what we needed...I loved just walking around the resort. The only negative is the Disney resort next door. I know that the Marriott has nothing to do with them, but Disney will be Disney and they are loud and they took over the lagoon. Oh well, but other than that everything was perfect and lov

Room Tip: The rooms facing the pool and lagoon are wonderful. Great views could sit out there for hours

“Relaxation in Hawaii”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed November 29, 2012

Great hotel with beautiful views! This side of the island is quiet and peaceful. Good amount of kids around the lagoon area since the Aulani is next door but there are 4 lagoons you can travel to if you want solitude. Great place to relax but not too many restaurants nearby. Beautiful views and you can see turtles out in the sea! Great snorkeling area too, esp for kids since the water isn't rough. Stay here to relax and for peace and quiet :)

“Paradise Found”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed November 27, 2012

Really, this is just a lovely place. Stayed here after a few days at the Marriott in Waikiki (wife had a conference). Very quiet. We came in the off season (week before Thanskgiving) so there were not many guests and a small amount of minor construction (refurb of several outdoor areas). The Disney hotel Aulani is having some additions put on but it was far enough away not to bother. The Ihilani hotel is located on the western side of Oahu in a large gated PUD across from the Kapolei industrial district (maybe 3-4 miles away) to the east. The resort area consists of several hotels and wedding chapels on four lagoons with a golf course, marina, time shares, single family residences and condos.

Fair warning - I'm Marriott gold so YMMV with respect to accomodations.
Check in was very easy "Here's the car keys, bra'" and the room was exquisite. Sliding louvered panels over the glass dores so we could adjust to get just the right breeze. What a view (see pics). The Ihilani itself has a pool and is on the lagoon. The second lagoon over is relatively empty - no resort there yet. Wife saw a large turtle there on the last day. Did I mention the views? The lanai was heaven for morning coffee and evening wine. Staff was extremely helpful.

Did not get to try the Paradise Cove Luau next door (out the front on the left - easy walk) - maybe next time. Did eat at the main restaurant Naupaka Terrace for the Saturday buffett. Mahi cooked to order - I'm done. Ok - three times and I'm done.

Yeah - we'll be back.

Resort hints:

You need a car - car rentals are not that much. There's a taco restaurant just out of the resort but nothing else within walking distance. Otherwise, be prepared for some expensive food. It's good, but I personally can't take all the rich food 3x a day.

Car self parking was $25 a nite for me. Let the valet park your car the first nite and before 10 pm, go down and self park it (just get the keys from the valet, no need to move the car).
Snorkel gear from the Ihilani stand at the lagoon is free for guests - just ask.
Check the activities - wife went to the "feed the fish" thing and saw lot's of tropical fish and got advice on where to snorkel. Staff is just outstanding.
There are lagoons inside the hotel area with sharks and rays. Talk to the animal husbandry expert on site. She feeds them and cleans the lagoons and is quite knowledgable.

Mahalo,
J...

“The most awful experience I have ever had. Do not stay here. Serious management problem”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed November 27, 2012

We took 18 hours flight from Thailand to here. We are here on business and pleasure trip for 7 night. The first night we order room service. The next morning the maid said she will take the food table away and left it for 3 days. We also woke up with the strong paining smell. The sound of construction going around us. We look out the balcony and see construction going around everywhere. We try to ignore and go about our business . Still at 4 pm the paint and drilling sound got even louder .My friend call the manager, she said she will call us back and never did. The second morning we work up at 9 am with even louder construction sound, heavier drilling, strong paining smell and worse.. shouting match of construction workers sitting and hanging themselves out from the balconies. Some are right under my room. hanging themselve out from balcony, yelling, fighting. etc. I call the front deck to report the even again. Nothing happen and the situation continue. We have to do a meeting call oversea for a fews hour right away. It was awful because both the construction workers and the construction keep getting louder and got into the phone call. The paining smell so bad that I have to take asthma medication and we both starting having headache. My friend call the manager again and the one that spoke with us the night before was not in. Finally another manager came along and try to move us to another room. But after we look around the room, there were construction still. The new manger admit that he has no clue of where the construction are going on. I can not believe this is JW Marriott standard nor how it handle customers in any situation!! They system has totally fell apart. So sad and upsetting.

Room Tip: Do not stay here. It is over price and they have no idea what they are doing at all.
