“Fantastic End To Our Trip”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed September 15, 2013

We ate at a different Roy's 17 years ago on our honeymoon and enjoyed going to Roy's in our hometown of NYC before it was destroyed on 9/11, so we were really looking forward to this meal, and we decided to go on our last evening of a two-week vacation with our two kids.

The fish was so fresh and delicious, and much of it -- especially the appetizers -- was prepared so elegantly and delicately that we almost felt guilty eating it.

I had the Ahi tuna as a main course, served seared. It was so fresh and delicious I savored every bite.

Special kudos to the pastry chef. No, not for the souffle, which my kids thoroughly enjoyed (they were delicious). Instead, I refer to the macadamia tart. For those who haven't had the pleasure, it's a round, fairly thin tart like you'd see elsewhere made with pecans, instead it's made with macadamia nuts and may just be the tastiest thing I've ever eaten. I almost ordered another one but was so stuffed I couldn't eat another bite.

Thanks for a great meal and a great evening.

“Very Good Dinner, Beautiful View, Service Meh!”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed September 12, 2013 via mobile

My wife really loves Roy's on the mainland so we stopped in for a little birthday dinner.

We were asked if wanted to eat inside ou out. it was a beautiful evening so we decided outside.

Inside the restaurant was very loud. It appears the slate floors do not help the noise. outside we were seated by the outsise bar. The view was spectacular, however the bar noisy on theyvnoght.

We went for the special dinner that includes appetizer sampler plus an entree and dessert. It's s good value for $41 per person.

The appetizers were good Ahi Tuna, Spicy Mongolian Bar B Que rib plus a tasty Chicken Spring Roll. All very good.

For dinner I had the Macadia Nut Crusted Local fish. I prefer Halibut over this local fish...but it was very good. It included of asparagus and new potatoes. All very good.

My wife had the beef short ribs. They were incredibly good, however a little heavy.

For dessert we settled on the warm chocolate cake w ice cream and macadamia nut tart w ice cream both excellent.

Our expectations of a dinner at Roy's are set by the mainland operations. The mainland restaurants we were told are owned by Outback and the Hawaii locations still by Roy. I think the mainland stores offer a more consistent and better experience.

Our server was not very attentive, even though he had a note in his shirt pocket, he could not remember the special occasion.

Customer is King in my book...not quite at this location. This customer just felt like another.

“The best we have eaten so far”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed September 9, 2013

We are staying nearby Aulani and Rick the shuttle driver said we needed to eat here.. He was not wrong the butterfish was heavenly .. food was fresh and cooked well. We shared a dessert and had a bottle of wine. This evening was expensive $230 for. 2 of us .. it was good. service was very attentive.. Perhaps a little over attentive as we did feel like we were being interrupted some of the time

“Food Highlight of our holiday!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed September 9, 2013

Eat here!

If you are dining with friends the best advice I can give you is to order only appetizers and share everything! We had a total of 4 of us and we ordered - Wood Smoked Mongolian Spiced Baby Ribs ( must have! so delicious ), Pear salad, Salmon sushi, half serve of the Misoyaki Marinated Butterfish and some sashimi. All very delicious and fresh.

Our server was was good at recommending dishes and drinks. I do agree with some reviews that the atmosphere is kind of lacking, but we didn't notice as much because we were in good company. We thought the price was very reasonable ( it worked out to be ~$100 per head including drinks ) with the food being so tasty and the drinks delicious!
