“very nice stay”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed October 30, 2013

We were there on our honeymoon and got upgraded to a water cottage. We really appreciated this as the view was great. Staff is very friendly and helpful. A small resort, nice hideaway.
We would love to come back.

this is a great place to stay IF you do not want the usual resort experience like that of waikiki. that is exactly what my boyfriend and i wanted and it was amazing. we read the reviews for the paradise bay which were mixed but we still decided we wanted to risk it. even the locals don't know about paradise bay. immediately we were impressed by the lobby and the greeting we received. our room had a large lanai facing the bay and the mountains. the mountains are like none i've ever seen with the clouds constantly rolling over them and such a rich green. the bathroom was small but clean and up to date. the kitchenette was great for storing leftovers, snacks, and drinks. the living had a small comfy sofa and a tv with plenty of channels. although if you are wise, you will take the free kayaks out for a ride around the bay. and even to the sand bar if you are up for an adventure (tip: when you kayak out into the bay, make sure to stay to the right to get to the sandbar. when you see the water change to a light blue color, you are there. if it seems like you've been paddling for a while, keep going. its out there, but WORTH it). the staff are very attentive and friendly. the inn keeper will tell you where to get local grinds. paul will give you pointers about kayaking. one of the owners stephanie will say hi to you and see how you are enjoying your stay. the continental breakfast is nothing fancy but the waitresses sure do work very hard to keep it stocked and neat. best advice: go to the aloha dinner and the fire dance show! bottomless mai tai's and great food. the live entertainment is great because they have local singers like uncle ben and uncle freddy who tell great stories about elvis and don ho. the hula dancer will teach you how to dance hula no matter how shy you are. the fire dancer, so'o, is amazing and he will tell you the history of fire dancing from a local perspective. no fluff like what you would experience at a big resort. lastly, it seems that the folks at the paradise bay resort have been paying attention to any negative comments on tripadvisor and changing those things. everything that we saw that had a negative comment on tripadvisor had been changed / improved when we were there. its so quiet! especially since we came from the hustle and bustle of waikiki. expect a good nights rest. you can walk to mike's huli huli chicken but otherwise you will need a rental car to get to the beaches and other restaurants. still not far from anything in a car.

Room Tip: ask for an upgraded room with a view if possible.

An OK little place on the bay. No beach nearby. View over roofs of more spendy rooms on canal and bay. Little room nice, nice lanai. Great continental b fast. WAY EXPENSIVE though. Total was $287 fro one night. We stayed at a huge condo overlooking beach and Na Pali Coast on Kauai for $215.

Seemed popular with younger couples.

Room Tip: On the bay, but more expensive.

Appreciate your review and thank you for complimenting our breakfast. Yes! we are one of the only two resorts on the windward side and close to the North Shore. I am sorry you feel that the price was a little too on the expensive side. We always look forward to our repeat guests. Please call the resort directly and mention you stayed with us before and we will make sure to offer the best price possible. Look forward to meeting you on your next visit. mahalo !

Ok, from reading all the reviews, we thought this would be a great place to finish our trip. I think we got stuck in the cheap room. Absolutely everything was falling part. Start with the bathroom.. Sink stopper handle was missing (has to pry it open to let water drain) toilet handle about fell apart in our hand. Front door deadbolt would not engage, bedroom air conditioner barely put out cold air and was so noisy, the rear lanai hand rail basically came off in our hands, the neighbor lanai was practically falling off and to the ground below and a huge safety hazard. If you lean on it, you fall to the ground below.

The room above us had people walking around very early in the AM and we heard every step and practically their whole conversation. Is there no insulation?

I like the grounds, very nice next to the water. Hot tub is barely luke warm.

Kitchen looked more like a closet. I could see the other lanais, maybe 10'x10', but ours was only 3' wide and on the side.

I accept that not all room are equal, but don't charge $250 (+fees and taxes) for a room that is no better than a cheap Holiday Inn. Maybe charge for the other rooms at this rate.

Do not lt them put you in room 15!! It is a left over room that is NOT what you see on the website!

Even the numbers on the side telling you are at room 15 are falling apart.

To top to it off they started to fix things very loudly right at 8 am. (Things not on our list)

Also, it would be nice if they told you about room service every other day. They surely did not tell us!

I am also not one to write bad reviews, but we really wasted our money here!

Room Tip: Don't accept them putting you in room 15.

If you like a quiet getaway, this is the place. All of the acommodations were what they said on their web site. The rooms were very clean, and the bed was sooo comfortable, as well as the pillows. When I booked this place, I requested a studio, but was surprised to an upgrade of a one bedroom suite with bay and mountain view, at no extra charge. I have learned that if you want to shop for souveniers, buy from local vendors up on the North Shore. We also enjoyed the food vendors up there as well. There is alot to do, but make time for sight seeing and going to the beaches. Can't wait to go back!!!

Room Tip: Make sure to look at the pictures on their website.

Mahalo ! for all the kind words. One of our resort strength and uniqueness is our amazingly beautiful location. We are so glad that you took time to venture out and see all our beautiful beaches so close to our resort. The drive to North Shore passing the Ko'olau mountains will be etched in your memory forever. Have a wonderful holiday season and hope to see you soon.

Hotel is located in a slightly out of the way location which allows tranquility and peacefulness. There was a bit of confusion on our booking (via Expedia) and they sure went out of their way to make sure we would have an enjoyable holiday.

The price includes a breakfast buffet, though nothing extravagant, it's fairly healthy and with good quality. Love the fresh fruit they cut up every morning!

All in all, this is not a 5-star resort run by international brands, it is a cozy and locally operated hotel with great services.

We are long term customers and we are kind of glad about the fact it seems we are staying in a beautiful secret hiding place and I really don't want to share but if you like serenity check this place out. This a place where you set the pace of your stay and you get to drive and plan your own thing. Staying here allows you to experience the "country" and not the crowds of people like the other side of the island. On this side of the island, you can experience the drive up to North Shore. Several things to do along the way. Or you can drive down to Kailua and have a blast there. The point is you are in charge and you have a nice room to enjoy when you are ready to relax. Wednesday nights you can set yourself up for the dinner they serve and listen to the live entertainment and Friday nights you can enjoy the finger foods and even more live entertainment during your meal and after with a fire dance. Very educational! The views are breathtaking and I still can't get over the chickens everywhere. They're fun to watch as well.

Official Description (provided by the hotel):
Aloha! We are very excited to announce the completion of our room and property renovations. We will continue to enhance the property as other resorts do, however the bulk of work is complete. We appreciate all of the input we received both positive and negative and we have used it to get to the point we are today. We were recently awarded the 2014 TripAdvisor Award of Excellence. We are blessed to be part of what we all consider to be the most beautiful tropical setting in the Hawaiian Islands. Now the property, accommodations and warm staff complement our surroundings. We call ourselves True Hawaii and what does that mean? Our setting reveals the answer. We are located in a panorama of spectacular natural and tropical beauty, from amazing Hawaiian mountain ranges and lush tropical landscape, to beautiful Kaneohe Bay, Chinaman's Hat Island and out to the Pacific Ocean. We border an ancient Hawaiian fishpond surrounded by lush tropical mangroves. The Kahuona Fishpond is one of the last remaining working fishponds and is designated a historical site. We are the only resort property with private access to Kaneohe Bay. Kaneohe Bay hosts the most abundant and diverse sea life and reef system in the Hawaiian Islands and our guests can access it safely right from the resort. Our design fits with the environment and has a contemporary and authentic Hawaiian look and feel. We thank our guests who have stayed with us in the past and helped to support us. We appreciate your patience with the renovations and know you will be delighted on your next stay. The property, guest rooms, new amenities, services and warm staff are here to take care of you. We offer our guests the same entertainment, special Saturday sand bar excursion and we have added a few more; a Friday evening Firedance Show, additional live Hawaiian music and surprise cultural classes. We have added some new things such as; a fitness room, Wi-Fi, on call spa service, new pool and hot tub, new floating lounge areas, conference room, intimate wedding ceremonies and we are pet friendly. We have renovated and upgraded our guestrooms with; new furnishings, artwork, premium pillow top mattresses, luxurious bedding and linens as well as new flat screen TV's and IPod docks.Kayak use is still included and we also have Standup Paddle Boards and private boat charter available.
