2nd time at Haleiwa Joe's at Haiku Gardens. We live within a 5 minute walk next door. Took mainland guests here mostly for the view and convenience. Arrived at 6:45 and were seated at 7:50pm. Ordered appetizers of fried calamari (which all 4 of us love). These were miss-named - should be billed as "tasteless fried rubber bands." Needless to say, they were sent back.
My male companions ordered the swordfish with cucumber kim-chee (3 stars), my husband ordered the ribs with rice and slaw (2 1/2 stars). I ordered "Crispy Coconut Shrimp" which I SWEAR were 6 frozen breaded shrimp from Costco or Sam's Club and somebody whispered "coconut" near them after reheating (I'm being generous in giving 1/2 star). A $24 bottle of house Pinot Grigio (WITH A SCREW CAP) topped off the meal. $170 (including tip). We loved Haleiwa Joe's when we lived on the North Shore and ate there at least 3 - 4 times a month. Disappointment is an understatement of what we felt last night. I don't care how close they are to my current home - even if they come to my house to cook at my house, I won't be eating at Haiku Haleiwa Joe's again. Such a sad thing because the service is good, the atmosphere and surroundings are wonderful but I've had better food at Red Lobster!
