“late mid-week dinner”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed September 30, 2013

great daycatch fish wrapped in banana leaf and steamed with vegtables ... their home made deserts run out fast so don't go for a late dinner and expect the best deserts to be still available

“A hidden gem”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed September 26, 2013

My friend suggested Cactus and I had to drive around the block a couple of times to realize that I had passed it. I was a bit early so I stopped by the bar for an early drink. Bartender was wonderful and took care of me in an instant.

After we sat down, the service was impeccable. (I always know when the service is good because the waiter will always be filling up your water glass...in other words...they are looking out for you.) Wine was refilled and great suggestions on the pupu's to start our culinary adventure. We had the roasted peppers - a first for me and they were awesome - even when we bit into a hot one.

We ordered one of the seafood specials and a chicken dish to share. Outstanding. Both were served to perfection, hot when served and ready to eat. Normally not a big dessert person, we split one of their local items and it was the perfect way to finish off the meal.

Looking forward to coming back on my next trip!

“A nice surprise!”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed September 25, 2013

We went Sept. 2013. It was easy to find. Secure parking. We were a little early - around 5 pm. The greeting was very nice and courteous. We had a short enjoyable welcome discussion. We were seated side by side as requested and had a view of the restaurant and street which was fun. Started out with a nice martini. Had a very good meal - appetizer, fish and chicken. Wine selection was good for our tastes and we shared a bottle. Food presentation and preparation was gourmet in an unpretentious atmosphere. Great service. Very enjoyable meal.

“Scrumptious "South of the Border" fare”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed August 13, 2013

Our party of four dined there recently and thoroughly enjoyed the creative and tasty concoctions. With an emphasis on local ingredients and a flair for all things Hispanic, Cactus did a great job of presenting some unique and flavorful dishes. The sirloin asada and Hamakua mushroom tacos were exquisite, and the cilantro risotto was equally tasty. A member of our party had many food intolerances, and the chef was able to construct an excellent spicy ahi tuna dish with fingerling potatoes and veggies. They also have an extensive wine and cocktail list, not to mention some great dessert options. Appetizer choices included a tasty tomato bisque soup and delightful smoked chicken coyotas (which I've never tried before). Our server was very attentive to our needs, and we were very impressed with the chef's ability to create a mouth-watering experience with severe ingredient limitations! If you have a hankering for a new take on Spanish food, I highly recommend you check out Cactus at your earliest opportunity.
