While this isn't the hardest hike you'll ever do, it's certainly not for the faint of heart. We only did the first peak and that was enough for us even though we are active physically fit people.
The hike starts out easy, but once you get into the steeper rooty sections is when it gets harder. If you have any problem with heights, then you may not want to do this. There are some sections that require climbing up rocks and rock ledges. If you make one false move, you could wind up with a sip and deadly fall. Once you get to the top of the first peak, you will be rewarded with a great view over the windward side.
I loved the hike and found it exhilarating, but my husband was a bit more cautious and was uneasy in some spots. Going on to the other 2 peaks seemed like unnecessary danger for us and we were happy with the view we had.
f you're adventuresome, then go for it. It's a fun experience.I do not recommend this if it has been raining for weeks, as the mud can be impossible to deal with combined with roots.
You'll have to park on Loop Rd which is off of Auloa and the Pali Hwy. There's no designated parking. You just pull off on the side and then there's a half mile or so walk down Loop Rd towards the trailhead. You'll go thru a gate with a guard, but just let him know you're doing the hike. Then look for the sign for the trailhead, it will be off to your left.
