Great place and much more quiet than the Waikiki side of the island. You get to know the locals.Everything is within walking distance. We stayed in the Palm Room June 7-10/2013. The backyard was very relaxing and the pool was a big plus. Nice breeze at night and we slept like babies( and we are old!). The kitchen was well equipped and provided everything we needed. We made the same breakfast as we do at home with the help of Whole Foods. We could listen to the birds in the morning, a lot better than the Cicadas in New Jersey! Our favorite restaurant was Kalapawai Cafe, we tried most of their dishes, all delicious. Kailua Beach is beautiful, a nice long beach and quite a scene with the kites and surfers. The botanical garden is worth a visit. We explored the beautiful North Shore and had lunch at Turtle Bay Resort. Also the Palm room had a nice selection of books to read. All over we had a very nice, relaxing time at Hula Breeze. We are too old to make another trip to Oahu but we will send our daughter to stay at Hula Breeze!

We stayed in the Palm Room from May 11-19/13. We were very happy with the accommodations. The room was clean and all the basic amenities were provided. We loved the cross breeze that the room got from the trade winds and listening to the birds was very peaceful. We also enjoyed sitting in the backyard which was beautifully manicured. Internet coverage was not fantastic in the room, however, we did get good coverage in the backyard, which was all we needed! Who really wants to sit on the Internet on vacation?!
Allison and Sven were very hospitable, providing us with lots of privacy, yet still friendly and helpful with an open door! We loved Ringo & Ellie, the dogs! They provided canine love that we were missing from home from our own pooch!
We ate all our breakfasts in the room, and even made eggs a couple of mornings! We also ate several dinners in the room. Whole foods, although expensive b/c it is organic food, is definitely worth it....the food was delectable! We also found this amazing Herb de Provence butter there....highly recommended. On Thursday night, there was a farmers market near the Longs parking lot. There was tons of people there and all sorts of differents foods to try.
Buzz's Steakhouse was walking distance, which is wise after a few Buzz's Mai tai's!
Beautiful Kailua beach was about a 10 min enjoyable walk through the neighbourhood. A nice place to stroll in the evening and absolutely stunning during the day with great swimming. Unfortunately, we never took in a sunrise. Down the road is Lanikai, which also is a stunning beach and beautiful homes. There is a hike in Lanikai, called the Pillbox Hike, which is not long, but gives you some beautiful views of the southeast shore.
The location of the Hula Breeze was great to head up to the North Shore, or whip across the island to Honolulu or to meander around the south end of Oahu. Most days we packed up a couple of beach chairs and fins provided at Hula Breeze, grab a sandwich at The Kalapawai Market just down the road, keep them cold in the coolers provided, and take off for beach adventure!
If you are looking for daily housekeeping and air conditioning, stay in a hotel. If you want to feel immersed in Hawaii life, and experience peace and tranquility, Hula Breeze is the place. Kailua is such a beautiful laid back town. It really is an ideal location!

Room Tip: We did not see the Pineapple Room, but were very happy with the Palm Room.

We enjoyed 6 nights in the Pineapple Suite. We loved the decor which was bright & cheery with many touches of Hawaii. The king bed was really comfortable & we loved the wonderful breezes that flowed through the suite as we are not great fans of air conditioning. We really enjoyed having the tranquil yard & pool to cool off in after touring and exploring. Allison & Sven are very personable hosts who are happy to share their information of the area, direct you to some great dining spots, beach accesses, good snorkelling and are helpful while giving you respected privacy. Sven was very generous in lending my husband a guitar so he could strum & sing which is a favourite evening pastime of his while on holidays. The location for enjoying Kailua Beach and renting kayaks was perfect as it is a short walk in a quiet residential area. As there are no kayak rentals on Sundays (a local bylaw siting Sunday as family day at Kailua Beach) we were pleased to be able to do a rental on Saturday and return the kayak on Monday. We also recommend the Market at the beach for their great sandwiches, deli section and coffees. As our 2nd week of our Hawaiian vacation will be celebrating our son's wedding in busy, vibrant Honolulu we were thrilled to be able to enjoy this laid back week at Hula Breeze.

We enjoyed our 1 week stay in a charming, airy room nicely furnished and with all the amenities needed for a relaxing Hawaiian vacation. The house is located on a quiet street within walking distance of shops and beach. The town of Kailua offers many restaurants and shopping opportunities and is far less crowded than Honolulu. The host and hostess and their great dogs were very welcoming and accommodating. We recommend the Hula Breeze.

We stayed in the Palm Room Suite at Hula Breeze. It was very comfortable with plenty of cupboard/wardrobe space. The pool was a bonus. Please don't be put off by the negative comments made by the previous contributor. The kitchen was perfectly adequate for preparing breakfast/ snacks - after all when you are on vacation you don't want to spend time cooking! The house is in a very quiet residential area and the only noise was the dawn chorus from the abundant bird life - absolutely beautiful.
We found everything in working order and any requests to our hosts Allison and Sven were dealt with very promptly. They are a charming couple who go out of their way to ensure you have a good time without being intrusive.
The nearby beaches are exceptional and safe for swimming and all manner of water sports.
The house is within walking distance to Kailua which offers a good selection of dining options.

We stayed several nights after arriving very jet-lagged from the East Coast. The room was
nicely decorated and very colorful with accommodations to make breakfast for ourselves and get
snacks. The neighborhood is lovely and a short walk from the beach and several stores. It was a good place to get use to Hawaii after a long trip. The big downside for us was being awakened
rather early every morning by the hosts two barking dogs, which are in the very next unit.
I am a dog lover, however the extent of the barking would not encourage us to revisit Hula Breeze.

Aloha!

Thank you so much for taking the time to write a review on our property, "The Hula Breeze." This was the first time I have had anyone mention the dogs as a problem and I only wish you had let us know sooner!

We have taken your feedback and now feed the dogs in our enclosed bedroom on the otherside of the house away from our guest suites. We do hope you will come to see us again sometime in the future now that the issue has been corrected.

Mahalo! Allison

My husband & I finally took our honeymoon after 26 years of marriage. We chose Oahu as our Island of choice due to the fact the Kailua was rated to have the most beautiful beaches. We planned to visit Oahu for 10 days and started our trip by staying in Waikiki for the first 3 days. It was not as relaxing as we had hoped. It was so touristy, crowded (even for April) and expensive. On day 4 we made our way to the Windward side to the Hula Breeze. What a change... The Pineapple room was perfect. We felt so relaxed with lots of space in our room, the breeze that came through was perfect, no need for an air conditioner. Allison and Sven were the most gracious hosts. Just after our arrival Allison saw us in the yard and came and sat with us. She asked us what things we liked to do and gave us so many ideas of places to visit and ideas of where to eat. The Hula Breeze has available to the guests beach chairs, coolers, large beach towels, snorkeling gear, boogie boards, beach umbrella... so much more I cannot name it all. We would just load up our car each day and head to the beach or hit one of the coastal highways and enjoy Oahu. The back yard at the Hula Breeze is so beautiful. There is lots of seating and a beautiful swimming pool. Allison saw us out in the yard one evening and invited us over to her patio to have Pupu's with their neighbors. Everyone was so kind and it turned out to be a lovely evening for my husband and I. I feel we could not have picked a better place to stay than the Hula Breeze. I can see why it is rated #1 on Tripadvisor! Our saddest part of the trip was when we had to leave to go home. We hope to return again to Oahu some time in the near future and we would like nothing more than to stay at the Hula Breeze again! Mahalo to Allison & Sven!!

Room Tip: Loved the Pineapple Room. Large Bed, cool breeze, beautiful decor, sweetest hosts.
