We stayed at Turtle Bay Resort in October 2011 and had a wonderful time. It was my second time in Hawaii but first time to Oahu. We split our vacation between Turtle Bay on the North Shore and a hotel in Waikiki. For us, our days spent at Turtle Bay were vastly better than our days in Waikiki because the North Shore suited our personalities better. We enjoyed the laid back, relaxed atmosphere of the resort and the area in general.
The Good...
The beach at the resort felt private and secluded which was very nice. The staff were friendly and helpful. The restaurant on the beach, Ola's, was our favorite because the setting was truly beautiful. The balcony (lanai) attached to the room was a real treat. It was so nice to sit looking out over the beach and ocean in the early morning or evening.
The Okay...
The rooms were fine, not luxury but no real complaints. Our room had some chipping paint and quite a bit of general wear and tear, but it was clean and met our needs. I would say that if they were updated and looked after a little better they would get bumped to the Good category, but alas they were just okay.
The Bad...
The seclusion and privacy are a double-edged sword when it came to dining options. If you are looking for a full-service resort where you consume all your meals on premises, you'll love it. If you like to venture out, be prepared to drive to restaurants, shopping, etc.
Spa services are very expensive.
Overall, we had a great, relaxing vacation at Turtle Bay. We sipped cocktails at the pool bar, took a sunrise walk on the beach (which was deserted!) and sea kayaked. I would recommend the resort to others and would love to return!
