“Relaxing Turtle Bay”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed December 13, 2012

We stayed at Turtle Bay Resort in October 2011 and had a wonderful time. It was my second time in Hawaii but first time to Oahu. We split our vacation between Turtle Bay on the North Shore and a hotel in Waikiki. For us, our days spent at Turtle Bay were vastly better than our days in Waikiki because the North Shore suited our personalities better. We enjoyed the laid back, relaxed atmosphere of the resort and the area in general.

The Good...
The beach at the resort felt private and secluded which was very nice. The staff were friendly and helpful. The restaurant on the beach, Ola's, was our favorite because the setting was truly beautiful. The balcony (lanai) attached to the room was a real treat. It was so nice to sit looking out over the beach and ocean in the early morning or evening.

The Okay...
The rooms were fine, not luxury but no real complaints. Our room had some chipping paint and quite a bit of general wear and tear, but it was clean and met our needs. I would say that if they were updated and looked after a little better they would get bumped to the Good category, but alas they were just okay.

The Bad...
The seclusion and privacy are a double-edged sword when it came to dining options. If you are looking for a full-service resort where you consume all your meals on premises, you'll love it. If you like to venture out, be prepared to drive to restaurants, shopping, etc.
Spa services are very expensive.

Overall, we had a great, relaxing vacation at Turtle Bay. We sipped cocktails at the pool bar, took a sunrise walk on the beach (which was deserted!) and sea kayaked. I would recommend the resort to others and would love to return!

“Perfect Place to Relax”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed December 12, 2012

My husband & I travelled with our 6yo to Turtle Bay for a wedding. Initially we were staying 3 nights but after seeing the web page activities list we changed it to 6 nights. We had booked a standard room which was a larger than average size for a hotel room. It had a decent sized balcony with 2 chairs with sweeping views of the coast line. I believe every room in the hotel would have a wonderful view of some type with the way it is set out. We tried every restaurant except Ola and found the food to be great. Our favorite was probably the Hang Ten bar by the pool, great food, cocktails and service.
My son did Surf lessons at the Hans Hedemann surf school which was super easy to book right in the lobby and he also did a kids horse ride at the stables. The lady at the stables was wonderful and taught him how to care for the horses and was very informative on the local area and what to see/do.
I made good use of the day spa, the ladies in there really know how to take care of you, take a book and sit in the relaxation area between treatments and soak up the atmosphere.
I do recommend taking your own car up there, the local beaches only a few minutes up the road are amazing and if you get sick of resort food there is nothing else you can walk to but there are other food options/trucks/supermarkets only 10min up the road.
My only gripes about the place - there was a movie being filmed at the time that we were not advised of & one morning I accidently jogged onto the set putting security into a panic & resulting in me having to jog back miles along the highway. (the filming in the area also meant our kayak trip was cancelled) I then gave up jogging and used the gym which is tiny and in bad need of an upgrade (which I believe is happening in the new year?)
Also the self laundry, there are only 3 machines and a lot of people! One day I went to the laundry every 30min for 6hrs and couldn't get a machine available.

Room Tip: Any in the hotel, they all are away from lifts & have amazing views.

“Every room has an ocean view!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed December 11, 2012

We stayed in Waikiki for 2 nights before moving to the North Shore and Turtle Bay. WHAT A DIFFERENCE. When we got to Turtle Bay we said, "Finally - this is the Hawaii we have been looking for!". The restaurant, Ola is a little pricey but worth it. You get to sit next to tiki torches after dark right in front of the little cove and it feels like your own private beach. The room was very large, but the bed and furniture/fixtures were unimpressive. The view is AMAZING as each room has a panoramic window wall and balcony. Would recommend this to anyone - old, young, couples, families.

Mahalo for rating us on TripAdvisor! We are happy to hear that you consider Turtle Bay to be True Hawaii. We are glad that you loved the views and the unique setting at Ola's. We are sad to hear that the room fixtures and furniture were unimpressive. However, we are pleased to let you know that the hotel will begin major renovations very soon. We would love for you to come back and experience the changes once they are done! Mahalo!

“Descriptions are deceiving”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed December 11, 2012

If you are a tourist and want to see the touristy sites this is not the hotel for you. Don't come here with a pre-paid package. Once they have your money it is next to impossible to get any leverage on them.....like getting a room when you check in. Yes if you book a pre-paid package and you have to check in late...say 9 PM....well they already let our room go enough said. And the most annoying thing about this place is how their policies treat you like an 18 year old college student, i.e. 25 dollar "lost towel card" fee. For smokers....if you smoke on that balcony it is a 250 (yes two-fifty) dollars if "they find any evidence of smoking on the balcony". Not that I smoke but for those that do and go outdoors this to do it this is NOT the place for you. This isn't my first time to HI by any means but this place isn't what it used to be.

“Best place on North Shore”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed December 11, 2012

Most beautiful place to stay while on Oahu is Turtle Bay resort. Great service, incredible views, unbelievable rooms. We were in the most beautiful suite that you could have had board meetings in complete with 2 bathrooms, a master bedroom with balcony, a living room with balcony. The service was second to none and the views and amenities of this hotel were absolutely breath taking! We also enjoyed a day at the spa and had the best person do our makeup!
