We stayed at unit F2 of the Paniolo Hale during the last week in January. It is a one bedroom two bath middle condo with screened in lanai and an extra double bed in the living room.

The good: spacious with a great ocean view, comfortable furniture (especially the bed), upgraded appliances (including a Maytag Neptune washer/dryer), cable TV with two nice televisions, well funished kitchen. Also, the grounds are beautifully landscaped with cymbidium orchids growing at our doorstep and a gas grill near our unit.

The bad: our neighbors were close and very noisy, it was hard to close the doors to the screened lanai so, when we left the unit, we were vulnerable to theft. Fortunately, we were never robbed.

While we liked the condo well enough, we'll probably stay somewhere a little more private and secure next time.

I am from Pacific Beach, CA and my experience at Paniolo Hale was quite different from the previous reviewer. "Dizzycattus" is right - the units are individually owned and all units will give you something different. So I just wanted to put in a plug for the unit I stayed in - Unit I-3. We were there in the begiining of the winter season and though the surf was spectacular for surfing, it was still fun for boogie boarding (which my cousin and I did several times). But most beaches on Molokai, except for protected beaches like Dixie Maru & Murphy beach, are exposed to the winter currents - so you have to take your cue from the locals. If they're not swimming then you shouldn't either.
Our unit was a gem - it had all the perks of an oceanfront unit at much less the cost. A picture is worth a thousand words so you can visit their website at (can't post it here so just do a search on the resort name and unit number) and see for yourself.
Paniolo Hale is that rare vacation spot that you want to keep a secret. I hope I haven't let the cat out of the bag.

“Dingy and Dated”

The Paniolo Hale complex is a great place. It's location is perfect and the condos are spaced for maximum privacy. Each condo, though, is owned by different people so can be very different from each other. We stayed in the H2 condo. Though the space and view was great, this place has not been updated in 30 years (nor cleaned). We are low key travelers that don't require much, but we had to place double sheets over the bed and sheets over all the furniture. For the price we deserved more.

I booked this condo as part of my honeymoon trip to Hawaii. When we arrived to the condo, there were are couple of dead roaches on the floor, but I was hoping that that would be it, on the third day they started to come out in great numbers that was when we were leaving. Panilo Hale is located too far away from everything on the island and you really cannot swim on the beach, so I would pick Hotel Molokai on the west side of the island. Hope this helped.

We chose Molokai for our getaway trip, and let me tell you we got away from it all! Paniolo Hale is our new home away from home. Molokai in general was hard to leave, but we also got the pleasure of staying at a place that made it all worthwhile. The condos are clean & beautiful, and decorated by the individual owners. Everything you should want is there, including beach chairs. The more or less PRIVATE beach is Hawaii's most beautiful & serene locations, the locals all take great pride in it, and love sharing it with us mainlanders. If there is more than a dozan people on this beach you thing it was crowded... it is just so secluded!! The best thing about Paniolo Hale is the employees go out of their way to make sure yor stay is perfect, and how could it not be... when you are staying somewhere where you feel like you are on the edge of the world? The location on the West end of Molokaii could never be beat with ANY other location in Hawaii..... I just hope it never becomes like the rest of Hawaii....
