Description: Established in 1967 In 1967, Jerry & Eileen Macdonald opened Buzz's Wharf Restaurant in the Ma'alaea Small Boat Harbor, where it still stands today. They shared 30 successful years in the restaurant business on Maui and Honolulu. In 1993, the Macdonald's retired and the next generation took over. The American Cuisine with an Island flavor continues on. Mrs. Macdonald's French Tahitian roots contributed to many of the unique menu items. Their signatures dish the " Prawns Tahitian" being the most popular.Buzz's Wharf Restaurant recently celebrated 45 years of operation, and is one of Maui's Long Standing restaurants. As a landmark in Ma'alaea Bay Harbor, Buzz's continues, year after year, to greet and extend their ho'okipa (hospitality) to both newcomers and their loyal local and visitor clientele. Our ocean front dining room offers panoramic views of the harbor, Mt. Haleakala and the southern coastline of Maui which only serve to enhance your dining experience.

“Outstanding...”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed December 24, 2012

My husband and I ran across this little gem of a restaurant on our way to eat at another restaurant in the area. (Mama's Fish House) Mama's was packed for lunch the day we went so we turned around and decided to eat at Buzz's instead. So glad we did. First of all is the location on th wharf is spectacular ... fun to watch the boats comes and go. Major point of embarkation for almost all of the snokelboats on the island of Maui.

The view was fabulous, but the food was even better. Giant sized crisp, tender prawns, crispy fries and delicious prawn bisque... it was a fabulous lunch. The service a tad slow, but we weren't in any hurry to leave. And the food was more than worth the wait. Definitely recommend this place highly. Well worth the drive from Lahaina.

Lovely location, great food, gracious staff...

“Not to miss!”

After touring the aquarium ( well worth the $$$.) and working up your appetite, Buzz`s is not to miss - the food, service and location is absolutely first rate.

“Bad service, average food”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed December 10, 2012

We went on a Sunday night, restaurant was not crowded. It took over an hour to get our food. Asked for a table overlooking the water, told no even though the table was empty the entire time we were there. Crab legs were cold, pasta was bland. We would not recommend this restaurant.

“Strange pricing but a nice dinner”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed December 6, 2012

We stopped by for dinner on our recent trip there. The restaurant is nice and you get a view of the harbor and ocean. This are has got to the the windiest place in Hawaii. We all had the fish of the day ($30) and it was nicely presented and all came with potatoes and some vegetables (pretty standard fare). The weird thing was even though the dishes included potatoes, they charged $4 on the tab, for each plate, specifically for the potatoes.........go figure. They offered wine by the glass and it was not too overpriced, just somewhat.

“So pricey but decent food”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed December 6, 2012

We stopped in at Buzz's on our way back from our long Road to Hana roadtrip based on my FIL's recommendation. The restaurant, to his recollection was not expensive, for Maui standards. This was not the case. This place was VERY pricey.
I ordered the vegetarian entree and it was lacking. I would equate it to about half the amount of food I would expect to receive. I sort of mentioned this to the waiter, and he mentioned that the chef was playing around with their vegetarian menu, and to make this right, he brought me an additional plate of vegetables! This won them back in my favor.
My husband and his father spilt a ribeye, and they said it was good, but they are connoisseurs and i don't think it was worth the price even to them.

We had our infant daughter with us, and I'm not sure it was the place to bring a baby, but the restaurant was welcoming. I would say this was more of a romantic setting.

I would recommend this restaurant if money is not an issue to you. If you visiting Maui, it shouldn't be an issue because you should expect to pay top dollar for dining out. This is island life.

I will say the service went above and beyond and they tried to make right anything they messed up. The service exceeded the food. If you are looking to have a nice meal with friendly and great attentive waiter try it out. But don't beat yourself up if you miss this place.
