We were looking for something to do on an overcast day that didn't involve the beach. Drove to Iao Valley and were very pleased. It is a bit weird that it is a State Park but there is paid parking required from a private company. Not a whole lot of parking but we found a place.
This shows you a whole other side of Maui-- you feel worlds away from the beach. Really beautiful. The paved pathways were perfect for the grandparents in our group who aren't really comfortable walking on uneven ground. The 8 year old was able to run ahead and explore.
We brought a lunch and found some nice rocks to sit on and it was the perfect way to spend a few hours
Although it looks like there are restrooms, the building was locked tight and the only option were portapotties....blech
