“Excellent adventure into Hawaiian culture”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed October 17, 2012

This is a small but excellent insight into Hawaiian culture. Jake, our docent, has a real passion for his Hawaiian history. So much infformation inside and out. Well worth the time and trip. Look for the signs on road to Iao Valley.

“Very nice”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed October 10, 2012

Excellent history lesson gained from this tour. It is a small museum, but large with information. Jake, the docent, knew the material, regarding the history of this place and the overall hawaiian history, very well. He is very personable and anxious to impart his info. Small place, but I feel like I walked away with a lot of info.

“Informative but small”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed September 29, 2012

If you have been to the Bishop Museum in Honolulu, the Bailey House is like that but way smaller and not a lot of items. Downstairs you have artifacts from the pre-contact period with lei, fishing items, and other things. Going upstairs there is a little room for the Kingdom era and then the lifestyle of the missionaries. Outside there is a large outrigger canoe from the early 1900s and a surfboard circa 1910 that belonged to Duke Kahanamoku. While a nice museum, it could have some improvements such as having dates for when the artifacts were created or thought to be created. All in all its a good way to kill a half hour.

“Nice little museum”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed July 17, 2012

Arranged for a ukelele lesson for my 7yo daughter here (not part of the museum but they let Mele teach here). Rest of the family toured the small museum while she took her lesson. Both were excellent. History for the grown-ups and fun music for the kid. Chickens running around next door. Not at all touristy. recommended.

“A historical must-see”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed July 5, 2012 via mobile

Turn left here after the traffic light before entering Iao Valley or else you will miss this historical treasure! It is a quaint garden filled with moments in time! You can see Duke Kahanamoku' s board( please let it still be there !)A beautiful home and a humble gift shop. As you enter the rooms, a nostalgic feeling of turn-Of-The-Century Hawaiiana takes over. The city of Wailuku is generally busy with the surrounding Government locales just peering nearby but for a few moments in this particular section it feels like centuries apart. So try it for yourself and prepare to br transported to a simpler time!
