the place is clean and the people are friendly. I can not wait to go back next year.

Room Tip: any room is good. But if you are up for meeting some cool people stay in a dorm.

Wow, truely exceeded my expectations. First time hostel user im my mid 30's I was very sceptical. Great set up, very clean, great common areas and free tours. Hostess' were accomodating and very friendly. I will/have already recommended this to my friends. Although not walking distance to swimming beaches you do need a car as its quiet isolated.

My stay at the banana bungalow was really great! I met many nice people and travelled on with them to the Big Island and Kauai. Due to the FREE tours they offer every day its very easy to meet people and to have a good time with them. The common area outside is great because no one complains if you stay up longer and have a drink or two :) staff is very friendly and helpfull, the location is not really great but the bus station is only 2 minutes away and the tours take you to a new place every day. I really enjoyed it there and would go again!
The Jacuzzi is of course the highlight :)

As hostels go, this would be a bit less than average if it weren't for the Maui tours. The guides all knew what the locals knew and were flexible in making sure the guests had fun and got the most out of the day. I recommend that you check BB's website to coordinate your hostel time with tour maximization. My room, as international hostels go, was fine. The guest profile was predominantly students and international travelers during my week. The outdoor common room was big and convenient and allowed a lot of guests to mingle. The free computers worked as did the kitchen facilities. Although the daily cleaning staff seemed to work hard to clean the bathrooms and common areas when they were on-duty, there was not enough coverage. The overall premises do not look like they have been kept in repair and the bathroom facilities regularly seemed to have operating malfunctions or were trashed by users. But, if you are out sightseeing, who notices? Were it not for the tour benefits, I would not not recommend this facility.

This hostel is amazing!!!!!!! The best common area ever, where I had fun with the coolest people!!! The tours of the hostel are fantastic and the guides, unbelievable!!! I have a special thanks to NADINE, the most caring, funny and nice guide ever!!! She really takes care of her party and stays with you until the end! :) (by the way... thanks for skating down with me in the mud when I had no proper shoes for the hike! :) )
The rooms are confortable and staff very helpful and friendly. The only things I think that need improvement are the bathrooms. Other than that, this hostel is perfect!!!!! Thank you guys!!! :D

Although Wailuku is definitely not the nicest town on Maui, it is a good place to explore the island due to its central location. The free tours are just great and after one week you pretty much saw the best spots on the island. So for $50-$60 you can have an incredible day on Maui ($34 room, around $10 tip for tour guides and maybe another $10 for food). The most incredible tours are Tuesday's (Road to Hana) and Saturday's (18km hike through the crater Haleakala). Tours on other days are for example snorkeling tours or hikes in a valley. And most important it is so much fun to do all this with a group of other travelers instead of doing it alone. So you get to know travelers from all over the world by just joining the tours. And when the tour returns you can hang out with staff members and other hostel guests in their entirely rearranged outdoor area. It was always fun. Staff members were very helpful and often gave me good advice what to do and where to go. Or they just gave me a ride to the supermarket because except a small local store around the corner, there is only a gas station and fast food restaurants in walking distance. However, when going on a tour, the tour guides will stop at a big supermarket so that everyone can get stuff for the day.

So overall I had such a good time here that I would come back anytime, especially when I'm traveling on my own.

This would be a great find for anyone looking for a place to stay on a budget. Its more catered to a younger crowd. Its a great place to stay to get to know other young travelers and gain experience. The rooms are very basic.. You can stay in a private room or if you want a cheaper way of staying you can bunch up with other people. The washrooms are all co-ed.
They have a common room with a tv, kitchen, complementary internet access, pool table, music etc. Every day they have free day tours to different locations around Maui, which is great. Every Friday night they have keg party with a different theme. While I was there it was a "anything but clothes" theme, so everyone there was busy making their various outfits from tape and banana leaves etc.
This hostel is very free spirited and filled with people looking to get to know other people and all about having a good time while in Maui.
I would stay here with a group of girlfriends but not with a significant other.
