“Interesting course and affordable”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed February 19, 2012

The course was pretty challenging for my beginner skills. Views are nice from the back nine but nothing much to see on the front. I'm not sure where the country club part comes in. The pro shop and the restaurant are in portable units but the green fees were reasonable so I'm not complaining.

“Good deal, but greens are pretty rough”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed January 15, 2012

The course is laid out very well and you really won't end up with a bad lie on the fairways, however the greens are very rough and un-readable. However $50 including cart is a pretty good deal.

“Good service, slow play”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed November 30, 2011

The Pukalani Country Club certainly has a different feel to it from the moment you drive up than the other courses on the island. The "clubhouse" is essentially in a trailer, as is the restaurant. The entire staff that I came across was very friendly and accommodating. The rates are perhaps the most affordable on Maui. As others have noted, the course conditions are unpredictable, but for the low rates, I expect and can deal with that. The holes are pretty straightforward, with wide fairways. As others have noted, the course is set in a residential area, and you are constantly crossing roadways in between holes. The play when I played was SLOW, though the ranger was friendly, and offered to move me ahead, which was appreciated. I'd go back for the low price, but will probably go elsewhere for a better experience next time I play golf on Maui.

“The Best time Ever”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed November 29, 2011

This is an amazing course, loved it, best value for the beauty on the island. Great kaamaina rates, check their website. Even the club house was cute, and great prices, not to mention great maui cattle burgers. The proshop was having a great holiday sale, so we had to take advantage of that! Great people and service, we will be back to this course every trip to Maui

“Probably not worth it; Pop an extra $50 and play a nicer course.”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed August 13, 2011

Only play this course if you are on a budget. It's just "ok." I'm also pretty picky and an avid golfer, so if you're not you might have lower expectations that I did. Please keep that in mind.

(1) Price. I went through stand by golf and got ten bucks knocked off the price. You probably won't find cheaper golf on the island unless you really downgrade the experience. At least this was a full 18 holes and long enough for a longer hitter like me. Still somewhat pricey for the course conditions (see below).

***don't be fooled into taking a later tee time for cheaper. Your experience will not be good as it will be very hot, very humid, and very windy. You need to get out before 9am. The wind almost every day kicks up in the afternoon and you will fight it and likely lose.

(2) Views. While not as good as Kaanapali, you do get some pretty nice views of Maui from up in the hillside. But for the extra couple of bucks you can play holes right on the ocean and still get great views of the hillsides. You also play along some subdivision where you look at some pretty ratty houses. They were doing construction on some and I had nail guns and generators going off during two holes.

(3) Service. I cannot complain about the service or the members that I played with. Everyone was nice and courteous. But the workers fail to properly observe etiquette and fail to stop carts and mowers while you are swinging. That was a big downfall.

(4) Course Conditions. Here is a big downer. The fairway grass is long and the greens are highly unpredictable. The ball will not roll down the fairways, but it does sit up nicely. There is an issue with the hills. Often times you will have the ball a couple inches below or above your feet. Not a bad thing on one or two holes, but a bad thing on a majority of them. The sand traps are pitiful. Very shallow and constantly wet/moist. Greens are grainy and inconsistent. Some are dreadfully slow, other are somewhat fast. None are overly challenging in terms of layout. The holes themselves are not challenging in terms of layout. Many are straight on or slight dog legs.

(5) Lunch. Lunch is pricey, about $15 bucks for a cheeseburger. The food, however, is pretty solid.

(6) Location. Pretty far from the Kaanapali resorts, about 50 minutes.
