“Paradise”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed September 19, 2013

2nd time there, excellent again! We get a kick out of how they include the fisherman's name who caught the fish we are eating ... Caught that day! View from the open air tables is gorgeous at sunset (although does not directly face the setting sun.) The food is incredible -- very creative chef, delectable balance of favors and beautiful presentation. The service is excellent too- very attentive and well informed about the menu. Pricey but great for that special dinner on the island.

“Special place for a special celebration.”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed September 18, 2013 via mobile

At the last minute, we got dinner reservations for 4:15. Sounded early, but we were delighted to just get in. Watching windsurfers as we ate added to the atmosphere. Every bite satisfied this fish lover. The staff made me feel as welcomed as any place I've been. If calories didn't count, and I won the lottery, I would eat every meal while in Maui at Mama's. The only down side was a family next to us with two children under 4. The eldest spilled an open glass of milk which splashed on another diner, the parents allowed the children to free roam and the youngest squealed instead of spoke. Good thing the drinks are strong and the view perfect to take me away.

“Good Food, Beautiful Restaurant”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed September 17, 2013

I had heard many mixed reviews when thinking of heading to Mama's for a meal but in the end decided to go for it! Highly recommended to go for lunch. The menu is apparently the same and so are the prices but the atmosphere during the day time and the views from the property are so beautiful and although I'm sure nice at night too, I would say lunch would be the best!

Mama's is on a beautiful property with a small beach that the restaurant looks out at and palm trees (including one that has a crazy curve to it, great for lounging or at least pictures!). You really feel like you are on a tropical island when you are there and it is the best first impression you can have before going into the restaurant and enjoying your fab meal!

Our reservation was for 1pm and we were seated by 1:10 maybe? The waiting area is not too shabby either with nice Polynesian decor and friendly hostesses. Mama's was a lot bigger than we expected although it did not feel that way once you were seated, still had an intimate feel to it somehow. Lots to look at on the walls and the decor is perfect.

We decided to skip appies and go straight to main course (this is lunch after all!) and ordered the Mahimahi and Ahi sautéed in Panang Curry and coconut milk and the Hana Ginger Seared Deep-water Ahi with Kalua Pig fried rice. The menus are printed every day and we liked how next to each dish it said who caught the fish I guess that morning! The ginger seared ahi was amazing. Decent portion size of ahi and we asked for ours lightly seared so still pretty raw in the middle and it was so good, melt in your mouth good! The stuffed mahimahi was good too although on the rich side. Overall portion size is not big compared to the price you are paying but you don't need a huge portion for this type of meal. If you are a big eater, I would recommend ordering an appie though!

Oh and before the meal came we were given a small 'cup' of asparagus soup (I say cup but really... it's an itsy bitsy cup!) and fresh baked bread which was delish! They bring you as many loaves as you like but we stopped at one to save our appetite.

For dessert they have a nice selection but we decided to share the Hana Banana Macadamia Nut Crisp. Yum! Served hot with Tahitian vanilla ice cream on top (which was melting fast!) it was so good.

Especially if it's your first time to Hawaii or you want a really nice dining experience with a Polynesian feel, check out Mama's. You won't be disappointed although your wallet will be a little lighter :)

“NOT A SEAFOOD GUY, BUT STILL LOVED THIS PLACE”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed September 17, 2013

My wife love's seafood, and we went with a group of friends to Mama's as it was the "must try" seafood place. Well I can tell you I ordered about the only non seafood item on the menu and everyone was fighting for bites of my food. Their spare rib was AMAZING. My wife liked it more than the Mahi she got. Place is pricey.... but VERY GOOD.
