This location is hard to beat. There's no doubt about it that Mama's is a unique Maui experience. The food was very good, but I honestly have had better for much less money. The prices are a little over the top in my opinion.

This is the kind of place you should definitely try once to experience it - but I personally don't feel the need to go back there every time I'm in Maui. There's other restaurants with beach front locations where the food is just as fresh and just as delicious for less money.

Service is terrific!

We went to Mama's for the third time last week. Each time we have gone. I've walked through those amazing grounds in eager anticipation of the best seafood meal of my life. And each time I have been just slightly disappointed. It is by all means a lovely restaurant. One of the most perfect dining spots ever. People are friendly, although when busy it can feel like a bit of a factory. The food is by all means good. It truly is. But when you're paying $54 for an entree, it should send you in to throws of orgasmic culinary delights.

Admittedly my partner was more fond of his dish than I was. He had a whole Moi wok sauteed and served in a black bean sauce. I tasted it and have to admit it was pretty darn good. His appetizer was a pork and sweet potato dish served in banana leaf. Also excellent. I ordered a simple green salad (too boring at $12) and the house specialty- Mahi Mahi stuffed with lobster and crab. It was ok, but honestly just ok. And way pricey. For a moment or two it actually felt like a dish one might get at BENNIGANS for $12.99. It was just too bland. The little side crab claw it was served with was fantastic however. I would have loved a plate of those.

The setting and overall experience however truly made up for it...
and I gotta say that the deserts were amazing. We tried two- the banana macadamia crisp with vanilla icea cream, adn mama's chocolate pie (more of a dense moose over caramel and an oreo crust.). TO DIE FOR.

We didn't drink much (I had but one cocktail), and dinner for two came to about $200.

All in all I would go back again, but perhaps try a simpler dish...

I recommend going a bit on the early side and getting a table "outdoors". This is really inside- but in an open air environement.
See if you can get a table facing the ocean.

Pricey, but both times that I've been there the service was awesome and the food to die for!!! One of my favorites for sure!

As a vegetarian, I expected to just eat salad and mabye some sort of appetizer while dining here (with others who were interested in the fish), but the waiter was great and he was quick to offer a complete vegetarian meal, subsituting grilled bananas in place of fish in one of the curry dishes. It was great! The meal was delicious, and we had a wonderful time. Best meal on Maui. The mai tai glasses are also a lot of fun, with a tiki face on them. It's somewhat pricey, but worth it. Spectacular view, friendly and attentive service. Skipped the $10 coffee, but got dessert for $12 instead.
