“A Five Star, 3 Star Hotel.”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed September 30, 2013

Don't hesitate to book this awesome boutique hotel. The rooms are very nice and the owners have put a lot of thought and care into comfort, style and maximum enjoyment of the hotel. The hotel reminded me of all the things I love about Bali, Fiji, Samoa and Hawai'i: relaxed comfort on the beach, the smell of the ocean, the sound of the waves, great coffee, tropical flora and fauna and sincere and genuine hospitality. The warm staff was readily available for any and all needs, no matter the time of day and made it difficult to complain about anything at all. This hotel is everything it appears to be,a boutique on the beach but also on the main thoroughfare of an eclectic, organic, casual and charming town. With this hotel you will have a surprisingly comfortable room to retire to, but probably spend your time eating fresh food at the local restaurants, dipping in the warm ocean, and sitting under a palm tree watching the sun set and the moon rise.

We stayed at the Paia Inn for the last 4 nights of our honeymoon in Maui. The property, staff, and accommodations were great. This is a cool, low-key boutique hotel with beach access, an amazing outdoor shower, and is steps away from restaurants and shopping. Plus, we virtually were the only people on the beach everyday. We can't wait to come back with friends and stay in the cottage!

Room Tip: The 1 bedroom ocean front suite was fantastic with a great deck with multiple seating and lounging o...

Couldn't have been more pleased with our stay. The location is deceiving at first glance because it is on the crowded main street of Paia on the Hana Highway. However, tucked away behind the main building is a secret paradise that is well worth the visit. The staff was very welcoming and helpful in giving a tour of the grounds. We had a beautiful room that was extremely spacious, clean, and beautifully decorated. The beds were also very comfy! We had a private lanai which was great for a relaxing glass of wine or early morning coffee. The inn has semi-private access to a beautiful stretch of beach - complete with complimentary beach chairs and towels.

The location in Paia is great - easy walking to all of the restaurants and shops and a great point to start and end your drive to Hana. We enjoyed every minute here - and wished we had actually booked more nights. Highly recommended for anyone visiting Maui!

The staff were really helpful - even going out of their way to help us when we were briefly stranded on the Hana Hwy by a road closure.
The amenities were very nice - from the room to the beach, everything was great.
But...there's definitely something strange about coming to Maui and staying so tightly amongst so many other properties. Take a peek at google maps and you'll be unable to distinguish where the inn ends and the other homes and businesses begin--the inn appears to be assembled from numerous lots/homes that are tightly woven into the town of Paia.
I think we would come back to stay at the big house on the water or at their off-site cottage, but probably only in the main inn rooms with a big discount.
My advice - plan far ahead to guarantee a choice, call and ask about the views and setting of each room you consider renting. If you choose to stay here, know that it is very luxurious, the staff will make you feel very welcome, the beach is only a short, private walk away and it's really a nice place to stay.

Room Tip: Think rooms with a view - a number of them seem to look out onto small patios/gardens.

We stayed here for two nights and were pleasently surprised. The staff is very attentive and accomodating. We were in Room 6 and while comfortable, the bedroom was very small and there is not much space for luggage. it was fine for the two nights we were there, but if our stay was longer, we may have had an issue. The kitchen was very large and we did not feel crowded. I am a frequent business traveler and was not sure if I would feel comfortable in a boutique hotel. I was very impressed and would stay here again. I would probably opt to stay in a bigger room or cottage though.

The semi private beach was awesome. I am not typically a beach person, but the beach was a highlight of our stay. there were only three other guests on the beach and we had plenty of privacy.

Things are a little laid back in Paia and this part of the island runs on "island time". A few things to note if you are planning to book a stay:

* parking is tight. Although they have a small lot very close by, it fills up quick. if you have to use the public parking lot, the staff will pick up the tab.
* Paia seems to have more transient residents than other parts of Maui. They did not bother us at all and seemed to know to stay away from the touristy areas.
* This is a great place to use a jumping off point for the Road to Hana. Get an early start (before 9 AM) to avoid the tour buses that clog up the road.
* Plenty of great casual restauarnts and shops within walking distance.
* There was some construction going on while we were there but it was of no issue and we did not hear any construction noises.
* I had read some reviews about the location of the rooms not being on the property. while this concerned me a little, it was overblown. The rooms are just down a narrow path from the short term parking lot. other than the narrowness of the pat, it was super easy to get to those room, the "modest" breakfast area and the beach.

Our second stay at Paia Inn was just as wonderful as our first. we loved our room, with the outdoor shower and day bed and the private beach access. The staff at the inn are friendly and helpful. We will definitely be back. Love it.

Official Description (provided by the hotel):
The postcard perfection of Maui’s North Shore (white sand beaches, raging waterfalls, stylish cafes, and world-class surfers) just got even better with the opening of the Paia Inn. This beach town boutique hotel seamlessly blends modern amenities with the historic character of its building. In a nod to the town’s plantation trade days, the building’s exterior has retained its charm with tin rooftops and rustic hues; yet, the interior mixes contemporary island furnishings with the chic lushness of the W Hotel. ... more   less
