“Costco package”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed September 20, 2011

Costco had a great package for the Resort. We got a rental car, luau, dinner cruise on a catarman, $250 for meals, valet parking, two mai tais daily, breakfast buffet. The package was for 6 nights, we added three more nights and extended to ten days. The resort was located at the end of all the other resorts. The beach was not overcrowded. The food was great. The breakfast buffet was excellent with a choice of fruit, cereals, pastries, juices, eggs, bacon, two sausages, omelets, excellent. The staff was friendly, except for upper management, who would walk by and not even say hello. The dinner cruise was with a buffet, sunset, and a great view of the beaches. Saw some divers on some rocks, even got mooned by one. Barefoot bar was convenient after being on the beach. Great snorkeling by the resort, saw turtles swim by. Luau had great entertainment. Would do it again. We had a delux oceanview room on the top floor with a view of the beach.

Room Tip: Take a delux oceanview room.

Wow! Thank you for the great review. It sounds like you were able to fully enjoy everything that came with your vacation package. We’re happy to hear you enjoyed your stay with us and we thank you for choosing the Royal Lahaina Resort. We apologize about the upper management not acknowledging you as they walk by. That is very uncharacteristic of us, as we truly appreciate all of our guests. Sharing our Aloha with you is something that we feel is very important, and we regret having missed that opportunity to acknowledge you with a warm greeting. We are truly sorry. We hope to see you again here at the Royal Lahaina Resort, where the uncrowded beach, turtles swimming by, great nearby snorkeling, delicious buffet breakfast, and a fantastic luau show all await your return. (We’ll try to keep the ‘mooners’ away). Mahalo nui!

I travelled to Hawaii in April this year, with my mum and aunt. Overall, the hotel was very nice, the facilities available were all good, and it is within easy reach of other amenities, such as restaurants and shops.

However, I would STRONGLY recommend that you book a room in the tower before you go, as we were in the garden rooms, which were very disappointing. Upon arrival, we went to the reception to see if we were able to move into a room in the tower, however, an upgrade was very pricey and the women on reception were not very helpful, so they weren't particularly bothered when we were querying this. A little later we decided to go back and politely asked for the upgrade, but the last room had been gone and another wouldn't have been available for four days, and we were leaving then, so just had to put up with it. Being British, we do not like to complain, but on reflection, we really should have, as this was meant to be a very good hotel. All the communication made with reception staff was conducted politely on our behalf, and yet they were still very unhelpful and blase.

The problem with the garden rooms were that they were VERY outdated, and generally quite dull. The bathroom was very basic, and again, outdated, in dire need of a makeover! Also, I wouldn't feel very safe staying in these rooms if I were travelling alone, as they were completely separate from the main building and involved walking through gardens (as the room name suggests) in the night.

Also, the safe in the room failed to work on a number of occassions, and we had to call someone out to keep fixing it (he was very nice though!). Finally, the hospitality room given to us to use on the day of departure was disgraceful. I know that hotels don't have to provide it, and especially not a top room, however, the towels had been used, and there were no fresh ones or toiletries. My mum politely asked for clean towels, to which the women at reception were completely blase about this, and didn't even apologise! Overall, the reception staff need a lesson in people skills, as they ae letting down the hotel!

The room situation and reception staff were the only downfalls, however, this did put a dampener on our overall stay.

Room Tip: MAKE SURE you book a room in the tower! AVOID the garden rooms, particularly if you are travelling a...

Aloha and thank you for the review. We are sorry to hear of the damper that was put on your vacation here. We sincerely apologize to you for the experience you had with our Front Desk personnel, as we often receive praise about our guest service, especially with our reception staff, and we were surprised to hear otherwise. We have spoken with the managers and assure you that our wonderful team here is dedicated to making sure your stay with us is everything you would expect and more! As for the cottage rooms, we have discussed your observations and suggestions to our engineering and room-styling departments, and are currently looking at several options. We would also like to re-assure you that safety and security at the Royal Lahaina Resort is our number one priority. While the cottages are scattered throughout our beautiful garden and ocean front lawns, we champion our security force and the officers that constantly patrol all areas of the resort 24/7. I encourage you to please contact myself or any one of our managers here at the Royal Lahaina Resort, as it we would love the opportunity to regain your confidence in us and ensure your vacation is absolutely everything a vacation in Hawaii should be. Mahalo nui loa!

Just came back from a 4 day stay at the Royal Lahaina. The location is excellent, right on the beach. And the rooms are great - very modern in the tower. We booked a garden room and were upgraded to a partial ocean view for free. Easy beach access, close to great snorkeling and surfing, and a great tennis club. Be sure to get the $16/ day special for parking and 2 mai tais. Also request a room in the tower - it's been recently renovated. Many reviews talk about the pools. The pools here are small but fine for a dip. Why swim in a pool when one of the world's most beautiful beaches is steps away?

Room Tip: Ask for a room in the tower. They are the newer rooms. Do not get a cottage.

Aloha. Thank you for the review. We are very happy to hear that you had a great stay here with us, and were able to enjoy many of the activities on property and nearby. As you mentioned we are conveniently located just north of Black Rock and we have 27 ocean front acres of beautiful tropical grounds along a serene stretch sandy beach and clear blue water. We hope to see you again and appreciate you taking the time to write a review. Mahalo nui, a hui hou!

Everyone working at the resort was positive and willing to go "the extra mile" for us.
We had booked an Oceanview Room which was upgraded to the Delux Oceanview when we checked in. Our package included breakfast, 2 mai tais a day, parking, luau, dinner cruise and newspaper.
The breakfast buffet included anything you would want for breakfast with enough variety to mix it up each day. The luau and the dinner cruise were fun and well done. We enjoyed both and met some wonderful folks.
Only 2 minor problems. The refrig in the room had no shelves so everything had to be stacked. When we asked about getting a shelve we were told they were not provided. The other is that the parking spaces are small. When you rent your car get a compact or smaller. An SUV is to large.

Room Tip: Higher floors have better view

We were delighted that you enjoyed your stay along with all the activities included with your vacation package. We just got back this morning from 2 weeks at the Royal Lahaina. I give top marks to Andrea (the server for the pool area), and to the front desk crew. I give low marks to the restaurant for the slow service and mediocre food. But there are tons of places close by to eat so it's no big deal to skip this place. Most of the valets are awesome - Wayne, not so much (I asked for somebody to come to our room when we were checking out to get our bags. It took him forever to get there, he showed up with a pretty poor attitude, and disappeared when we got to the lobby. We ended up loading our own bags into our car. Silver lining: the $20 tip went right back into my pocket!) Housekeeping does a great job and Tupopo (sp?),the "guard" at the entrance is so welcoming and warm. He always greeted us with a big "Welcome Home!" when we came back to the hotel. It's a little thing, but it made us smile. Guest Services is incredibly helpful and the employees (especially Conception!) at the Royal Scoop are awesome. The best spot to stay (in my opinion) is the Tower on the Molokai side. There are weddings in the courtyard of the resort almost every day. Royal Lahaina has a wedding center and they do a GREAT job. The beds are super comfortable and the blackout wooden slider blinds keep the room nice and dark until you're ready to wake up. I definitely recommend staying here. Oh - and don't be shy about asking if they are willing to upgrade your room. It's a rarity when they won't (for no charge). Especially for returning guests.

Room Tip: Stay on the courtyard side of the tower. It faces Molokai. Great partial view of the ocean and the...

Aloha and thank you for the review! We are always so thankful for our return guests, and you are absolutely "returning home" when you drive up to the entrance of the Royal Lahaina Resort and see Tupou at our Aloha Gate. We were surprised to hear of your experience with Wayne and at the restaurant, as we usually receive a lot of positive feedback about the Bell/Valet crew as well as the Royal Ocean Terrace Lounge. We apologize and assure you that it is being addressed with both our guest services and culinary teams. We truly appreciate your kokua and eagerly await your return to your Maui 'ohana here at the Royal Lahaina.

The lobby is very quaint and welcoming, the rooms are beautiful and updated bathrooms are very nice as well. The restaurant was great, though we did pay more for breakfast than we did for dinner-seemed a bit strange. Staff was very welcoming and we enjoyed working with the Pleasant Holidays desk to coordinate activities. We liked the two pools and outdoor bar, but wish the pool bar stayed open later. The one pool is a little awkward since it's right by the main dining area, but you can either ignore it or just not swim during busy dining times. It would be nice if there was more than one computer available for guest use, or free wi-fi in the rooms. The beach is wonderful and sunsets are gorgeous from this resort!!!

Room Tip: Be careful that you're getting what you ask for-ocean view and ocean-front are not the same. I w...

Mahalo for the review. We are so glad that you really enjoyed it here at the Royal Lahaina Resort. We truly feel that we are a hidden gem, here on the island of Maui, and like you, many of our guests have a warm and welcoming experience here. And yes, we do have spectacular views of the sunset and a wonderful beach fronting our property. We also thank you for your feedback regarding our restaurant and bar. We will be discussing your suggestions with the chef and the rest our culinary team. We wish you all the best and hope to see you again on your next visit to Maui. Aloha!
