Our friends with timeshares on Maui and Kaui, considers the Sands of Kahana to be their favorite. We now know why. It is well planned, nicely furnished and maintained with spacious accommodations, one of the nicest beaches in the area and very friendly staff. Especially liked the outdoor dining areas and gas grills - even though the kitchens are full sized and fully stocked, we loved spending the evenings at the picnic areas and on our (2!) lanais.

You get what you pay for and this hotel is relatively inexpensive. The staff is horrible and the pools and grounds are horrible but we had a great room. Very large and clean. We are torn about staying here again- the rooms were great but nothing is in walking distance. SOK is actually in Kahana and Lahaina and the whalers village are all driving distance. The bar at the hotel is great with fabulous food.

The condo we stayed in was extra roomy and accomodated a family of 6 nicely. The beach in front of the resort is amazing and wasn't crowded most of the time. The Sands of Kahaha restaraunt was excellent, with great happy hour specials everyday.

The only problem, which was a huge problem for me, was the noise level. Of some of the guests, mainly our loud neighbors, but also the employees. There is a posted "quiet time" from 10pm to 8am, however you could hear employees yelling to each other as early as 6am. They also change out the dumpsters every day 8 am. Needless to say, if you plan on sleeping in any of the days of your trip, it is pretty much impossible.

We really enjoyed the Sands of Kahana! We had a one bedroom, two bath condo. There was a TON of room - another couple could have easily shared our condo with us. I was hesitant to invite my sister and her husband to stay with us because I was not sure what the condo would be like, but it was great! Clean, large kitchen, did I mention two bathrooms? I loved that! Our bed was pretty comfy, which was a nice change from other hotels where I've stayed. We had an ocean view, and took gorgeous pictures of the sun setting over the ocean. I read one reviewer mention that there were not many staff members available to help him. Maybe I'm not as seasoned of traveler as he, but I kind of enjoyed being alone and not being pestered by employees! I would definitely recommend these condos to anyone who is interested in a less-expensive yet comfortable stay.
