“Very nice but Kanapali area becoming very crowded”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed November 17, 2012

We stayed in the new Marriott Villas section. Have stayed in Kanapali at the Kanapali Alihi several years prior. Villas are very nice and spacious. Over a 5 year or so period the area on Kanapali has rapidly increased in the amount of units on this small strip, so a little bit crowded, but not like Lahaina. It is very beautiful. We were there in high season in early Feb and saw tons of whales right off shore. The Villas area is next to the main original Marriott units and this area is a little less crowded than the main Marriott units and on the mid portion of the Kanapali strip.

Stayed in a 1 BR 2 BA oceanfront room at the Marriott Ocean Club in Lahaina, Maui, Hawaii.

Could not have been happier - room was excellent, staff extremely polite and helpful, and the entire property was spectacular. Pools were clean and large -- plenty of things to do.

Not sure how you top this getaway -- maybe bring more friends and family. Top score -- well done Marriott.

Room Tip: Oceanfront was our only experience, but a great experience it was... if you can, do. A remarkable e...

As many reviews have already mentioned, this is a timeshare resort. This is not a hotel where room service is available and daily maid service is provided. If you can get by this, then you are fine.

The resort is lovely. There are multiple pools and lounge areas. Most people gravitate to the main pool, so it can be a bit hard to get a lounge chair, but if you go to the other areas, there are plenty to go around. There is even a separate kids aquatic area, and the kids love it. The resort has one proper restaurant that is open in the evening. The food here is good. Otherwise, there is a walk up eatery that has breakfast and lunch options. The food is not too good there. The resort has a proper Starbucks which is great! The hotel has a wonderful, modern fitness room. There is also a little gift shop in case you forget something.

The resort is located right on the beach. Unfortunately, the sand portion of the beach is small right where the hotel is, but as you move along the beach, it widens. There is a promenade that connects this resort with all the other resorts on Kaanapali Beach. It is great promenade to stroll on. You will find the other resorts as well as Whaler's Village, which has restaurants and shops.

The rooms are updated and modern. We had a room with two bathrooms, but a kitchenette. There are other rooms with a full kitchen, but only one bathroom. WiFi service is spotty. Sometimes it works well, other times not at all.

Overall, it is a lovely resort that has pretty much all that you ask for. Food does need to improve, but otherwise, I would definitely return here.

This was the best place to stay, Period! Don't read any of the negative posts. My girlfriend and I went from Nov. 4-11 on a time-share deal. This hotel was perfect from the second we stepped ont the property to the second we left. Every staff member said Aloha/Mahalo at every glance. The grounds were perfect, the pool is huge for adults and kids. We loved the suites, they're like a full size apartment with everything you need with two bathrooms, stocked kitchen, and two huge patios. To save a LOT of cash, go to an ABC store or Safeway in Lahiana and by your Alcohol/Mixes/Fruit to make your Drinks. It'll pay for itself in 2 glasses. Also, there is a blender in the room. Get the Lawn Cabanas at $25 for a half day 9am-1pm or 1pm-5pm, you don't need a full day unless you really like the sun. Longboards is pretty good. The Wednesday night AYCE Crab/Prime Rib was awesome from $25 (if you're the first 80 in line, get in line about 30 minutes before it opens). Hula's music and Leilani's Fish Tacos are the best in Whalers. Fish and Pasta breakfast is very good. The Marriott charges a minimal $8/day for taxes, charges for grn/wht towels is not returned. Ask for the Blue Rewards Card when you check in. Don't buy at conv. store by entrance, WAY overpriced. Don't Valet, the car garage is very close/adjacent to South tower and FREE. If you're gonna rent a car, do it online WITH your airline/hotel package. Rates are astronomical the day of. If no car, Bus from Whalers to Lahaina is only $2, but annoying to waste any time at/on a bus stop for an hour. The trade winds picked up in mid-Nov, but still nice 80's weather.
- Jason (Denver, CO)

Room Tip: Ask for either tower Floor 5-9, room # ending in 08, 09, 10, 11, or 12 for the best view

Marriott Maui Ocean Club is now a time share by Marriott. My wife and I stayed here the year they opened (1981-82?), so it is a personal favorite. In spite of the change over to a time share, we noticed no real difference. It is still a great location with access to many restaurants, nightlife and a great beach for sunsets.

The room are now larger with a full or partial kitchen. For a one-bedroom in the original towers, they basically cut a door to make two hotel rooms a one-bedroom suite. There is no pressure to buy-in and the service is top rate. The parking garage for self-park is a tad far to walk, but it works.

Room Tip: The partial ocean view rooms can be fantastic, particularly on the higher floors. An ocean view roo...

My husband and I visited Maui, using my father's time share. We stayed in the Lahaina Tower. We were pleasantly surprised when our "Garden View" had a view of the mountains as well as the ocean!

The restaurants are pricey but the food was good. Whaler's Village was a great place to walk to for shopping/dining.

Beautiful grounds and a fun pool with a slide.....Felt like a kid again going down the slide!
We had a great time and loved our experience in the Lahaina Tower.

Only 2 complaints:
-Musty smelling n the hallways
-Amount of noise early in the mornings from trucks/cars. We were told the hotel down the road was under construction and that is why the noise.

The above complaints are minor (at least to me) so I gave it 5 stars!!

Room Tip: Higher floors are quieter

Let me assure anyone reading this review that this was a great resort to stay at! My stay was from the 21st to the 28th of August. The staff at the front desk were very friendly when I first arrived. They were thorough in explaining where my room was and where other areas of interest like the Starbucks and pools were located. Valet parking is only $2 more at $16 than normal parking and are quick to retrieve your vehicle so I would recommend going with that. They do have limited spacing and it would make it troublesome to try and find a parking spot. It is important to note that I was not pressured or even asked to attend the timeshare meetings when I checked in or any other time during my stay, which I greatly appreciated.

My room was in the Napili Towers on the third floor as a single bedroom. It was an full ocean view and was completely worth the money! Every sunset I witnessed there was incredible! Some may think the hotel rooms are dated, but this room had a very tropical feel to it with the furnishings and ceiling fan that was enjoyable. It also contained a microwave, small fridge, sink, and kitchenware that made having sandwiches and drinks easy to enjoy. The bathroom was very nice as well with a spacious shower. I would share pictures but the one downside to the stay was that my room got overlooked for room service the few times I did not have the "Do Not Disturb" sign on the door. So it was not fully clean and pictures would have not been a fair representation. I have stayed in many hotels in my life and this room was spacious enough for a single person or couple to enjoy relaxing in. The view was incredible to where you can see beautiful sunsets and enjoy relaxing on the lanai.

I enjoyed the pools a few times during my stay. The towers have smaller pools alongside them that do not go very deep. These are mainly for relaxation from what I observed and experienced. I had to walk around from the towers to get to the large multi-pool area but it was not too far a walk. It is a great area as the pools are all interconnected with some having volleyball or basketball nets. They even had a slide available that was fun. The adults can always enjoy the bar in the middle of the area with stools and two hot tubs nearby.

TRUST me in this when I say this resort is a great place to stay at. Individuals may complain in these reviews from time to time but I firmly believe either they let one small issue get to them too much or they are the types that expect to be treated like royalty. While this resort may not be 5-star status, it certainly was very enjoyable to warrant a 5 star rating from me. I did a solo trip on this one but it should be noted that this is a very family orientated resort and there were families there indeed. However, this did not prevent my stay from being enjoyable. I would recommend Marriott's Maui Ocean Club resort to any of my friends and family.

Mahalo to all the staff at this wonderful resort for making my first trip to Maui, Hawaii a memorable and pleasant experience!
