“Great value and wonderful views”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed November 2, 2013

Just stayed 8 evenings at the Aston Mahana. I travel for business and really get claustrophobic in a typical hotel room. But the Aston Mahana is 1 and 2 bedroom condo units so it feels more like home with full kitchens, living rooms, and appliances. Every room has a full view of the ocean and all of the sister islands. It doesn't have the glitz of the bigger resorts with shops and restaurants, etc. but if you want to feel like you are at home while vacationing then I highly recommend this hotel. Rooms were quiet and we rarely heard anyone else. Grocery stores and restaurants are all walking distance. You definitely need a rental car to explore the island from here. Would definitely return here if given the opportunity.

Room Tip: All rooms have a view of the ocean.

Just back and already thinking about our return next year. What a place. Were fortunate to have our request for a lower floor (2,3 or 4) not only arranged, but that the very unit we inquired about was available and reserved for us (# 206). The owners have done a wonderful job with decorating and upgrades. Fully equipped kitchen with modern appliances, granite kitchen island, superb use of mirrors so practically any direction you face you see the ocean...something you can't escape seeing anyway since you are essentially only steps away. Relaxing lenai, comforable king bed, large bathroom with a classy turtle included in the tile...likely in honor of the big resident turtle that we actually got to see close up during a swim about 100 yards north of our unit,

Boardwalk starts just steps away and within 100 yards to the south is Duke's Restaurant a great dining spot. Several more restaurants also 100 yards away to the north. Farther down the boardwalk are other great eating locations Westin, Castaway, etc. If you are up to it you can walk to Wahler villiage in about 45 minutes, or turnaround at "Black Rock" (also reachable walking the beach, though a little longer because you are slowed by the sand and the gentle wave action). We walked on average 3-4 miles per day...a most pleasant walk and we easly shared the boardwalk with joggers, parents with children in strollers etc.

All staff are most courteous and helpful...they can't do enough for you. Great ammenities....industrial B'Bques for grilling, although we learned that a rare tenderloin only needs about 3 1/2 minutes per side as the heating is very efficient. Most meals were restaurants, although we did greatly enjoy two meals of our own making on our Lenai thus creating our own little restaurant. Breakfast was generally lengthy as we lingered over our coffee, fruit and cerial enjoing the view and the sound of the ocean. Very modern and convenient grocery store ("Times") a short walk (5 minutes) or drive if your grocery list is a long one in 2 minutes (just across the street).

Easy WIFI / Internet connection.

A little easier to find on the second trip as we were lookinig for the "Pink Hotel" that was our landmark. Best to consult your map carefully or call the Aston desk who are most helpful with the cross streets and the correct left hand turn to take off of Highway 30 that gets you to the entrance to the shared driveway to the Aston.

Bottom line is that this is an absolutely superb hotal on Maui.

This is a beautiful property. The view from our lanai was stunning. We stayed in a studio apt. It had everything we need, kitchen, washer and dryer, soaps. The $15 resort fee was worth every penny with good wifi and free parking.

Aloha and mahalo for choosing the Aston Mahana at Kaanapali for your time on the best island in the world, Maui. The stunning views you described are available from every single unit here at the Mahana, whether it be studio, one or two bedroom and also every unit features a fully equipped kitchen and washer'/dryer for the convenience of our guests.
You are correct that there is no charge for both parking and the wi-fi in all of our units and with the amenity fee we also include complimentary use of the in room safe, daily replenishment of coffee/tea and laundry soap plus the normal hotel room amenities in addition to daily newspaper and the unlimited use of the DVD Now kiosk in the lobby for movies and games.
Our second to none location steps from the quieter end of northern Kaanapali beach is what allows us to offer such stunning oceanfront views of various marinelife, much of which is attracted to the reef fronting our property, colorful rainbows and the beautiful sunsets which appear right between the neighboring islands of Molokai and Lanai across the way.

We very much look forward to your next visit and hope it will be soon.

This place is amazing. The ocean views from every room are breathtaking, with each unit having floor to ceiling windows. Our room was furnished with a full kitchen, including dishwasher and washer/dryer. The people are super friendly and helpful. Would definitely stay here again!

Room Tip: Bring water shoes. Even if you walk down the beach a ways, it can get somewhat rocky.

My husband and I stayed at the Aston Mahana (Room 917) as part of our honeymoon in early October, 2013 - and we could not be any happier with the condo and our experience! From the moment we walked in our room, we were blown away by the views! The condo has floor to ceiling windows and you see nothing but white sand and clear blue water! It's breathtaking! The staff at the front desk were very helpful and nice. We did not speak to the concierge about any activities or touristy things, since it was our honeymoon, we just wanted to relax and enjoy nice dinners and explore the island. The condo was decorated beautifully, with photographs on the wall that owners took of the island. There was a darling guest book in the condo that the owners wrote down some of their tips for great restaurants and fun activities that are off the beaten path! My husband and I followed some of their recommendations and were thrilled! It was also nice reading about the experiences and tips that other guests wrote down (people said the condo was their "happy place"!).

We rented snorkel gear from Bob's for a week and we kept it in the trunk of our car so we could snorkeling whenever we felt like it (Oh, and the condo has free parking!). There is a grocery store really close by (Times), so it was nice not having to eat every meal out. We usually ate breakfast on the balcony, packed a lunch, and ate a nice dinner out. Such a great way to save money while on vacation! The kitchen has all the utensils necessary for cooking or preparing a meal and there was a great tray that we used to bring our meals out on the balcony table. The sunsets each night were fantastic and falling asleep to the sound of the ocean was pure bliss. If I ever go to Maui again, I will definitely stay at the Aston Mahana and hopefully room 917 again!

Room Tip: Room 917 was gorgeous! 1 bedroom - great views!

We stayed here for four nights in mid October. Had no trouble finding the place or checking in. We paid to stay in a premium 2 bedroom 2 bathroom suite which is supposed to have nicer furnishing/recently renovated. The lady that checked us in gave us a room on the eighth floor. So we haul our luggage up ready to be dazzled with the view and the room, open the door and want to cry. The room smelled horrible! My mom said it smelled musky to her, but to me it smelled like smoke. I could not believe that anyone in their right mind would think the room we were given qualified as a premium room. It had horrible green carpet, ugly beds and nasty kitchen. The last time that room was renovated was probably in the 1960's.

I called down to the front desk, explained the problem and was told to come back to the reception area and they would give us a new room. Once we got there we were given keys to four different rooms that they said were the same type as what we booked. Out of the four we looked at only two were acceptable. We took a room that was on the seventh floor that was decorated very nicely. So we moved all of our stuff to the new room, and thought the problems were over.

Then my mom walked into the kitchen and right in front of the fridge the floor was so sticky that when she moved her foot her shoe stayed and her foot came out of the shoe. We then walked into the guestroom and pulled back the comforter and there were black flecks on the pillow and sheets. We immediately called and asked a manger to come up to the room. Once she got there we explained the problem and she said she would have someone come up to change the sheets and mop the floor. Then she said that the room was 'not guest ready' and that's why it wasn't clean. My questions is why if you know a room is not ready to be occupied do you let people occupy it?!?

Luckily the guy came up and changed the sheets fairly quickly and mopped the floor. Neither my mom or myself felt like we could trust how clean the comforters or decorative pillows were in either room so each night they ended up pushed to the side. This place had dust everywhere and there were multiple dust bunnies underneath the master bed. We ended up doing an experiment to check the cleanliness also. There was a plant in the living room, and part of the plant fell on the floor the first day we were there. It was still on the floor four days later when we checked out.

The views at this place cannot be beat. You are right on the ocean and can hear the surf at night. That view does not make up for what is lacking here. I would not recommend this place to anyone nor will I ever stay here again.

This was our first time staying at the Aston Mahana and I must say it was great! We've stayed in Maui at least 7 times previously - in condos and at full service hotels and this is simply the best property around. It's a perfect size property compared to the other mega-resorts in the area. It's quiet and yet family oriented. There was never a problem finding a lounge chair at the pool or on the grassy area.

The condo we stayed in #901 was a premium, upgraded condo with everything needed for a relaxing fun week. The oceanfront views were incredible from the living room and the master bedroom, and being on the 9th floor we could hear the sound of the waves throughout the condo. The kitchen was fully equipped and housekeeping service everyday was an added plus. Special thanks to Monica in housekeeping!

A big thank you to Susan Ramos the Expedia Concierge in the lobby. She found us the best deals on a sunset cruise and the Hyatt Luau (Drums of the Pacific)! The luau was perfect since the Hyatt has moved it to the new location. Susan got our family in the front row of the luau. She also recitfied the problem we had with the seating arrangement/location on the cruise after we had taken the cruise! Thanks again Susan!!!!

If you have the opportunity to visit Maui, I suggest you stay here. The staff at the front desk from Jean to Karen O who allowed us to stay a few hours longer on our departure day without cost is a reflection not only on the management of this property, but just the general Aloha spirit that is Maui. Mahalo....

Room Tip: Try to get a room above the 7th floor for unobstructed views of the ocean!
