“Heaven on Earth!!!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed January 15, 2013

We stayed in Unit 804. Beautiful condo and amazing views. Right off the beachwalk and near many great restaurants. Good snorkeling beach nearby, and you can even walk to the local grocery store. The Mahana is impeccably maintained, too. We will be back again to this wonderful place!

P.S. Be sure to go to Duke's for drinks or dinner at sunset and to Roy's for dinner, too.

Aloha and mahalo for taking the time to express your comments about your recent stay. We completely agree that after seeing the spectacular views provided from all of the units here at the Mahana it is easy to describe it as Heaven on Earth.
We're very happy that you were able to go home with these memories and very much hope you can return here to see us again very soon.

This was our second trip to Maui and we had such a great experience at the Mahana the first time, we knew we wanted to return. It has the feeling of home with the conveniences of a resort. We rented from a private owner who furnished and stocked the 1 bedroom condo as if they were occupying it themselves. Granite countertops, upgraded appliances and comfortable furnishings. The view when you walk in the door is amazing! Floor to ceiling windows looking out to the blue Pacific! Patio doors open the the lanai from the bedroom and living room. We slept with the doors open, listening to the waves roll in at night. It is the height of whale season and we watched the whales from the condo and also booked several whale watch boats during our stay. Until you've experienced that in person, it's hard to imagine what magnificent creatures they are! We're back home in the Midwest winter now, but dreaming of Maui! Mahalo to Sophie and Bob for another great stay!

We had six wonderful days here, January 4-10. While checking in, I met a man that had been coming back for several years with his family. Within a couple of days, we had met several other parties that returned to the Mahana year after year. It doesn't take long to understand why. The property is right on the ocean, and the view is gorgeous. Lanai and Molokai are visible in the distance. We spent hours watching humpback whales both from our room and our lanai! (btw, if you're there during the whale season (Jan - Mar ?) definitely go on a whale watching trip. You'll love it.)

The staff are all very warm and accomodating. You feel welcome and appreciated. The rooms are great. We had a 2 bdrm, 2 bath premium room which was absolutely perfect. Nicely furnished, well maintained, and the kitchen is very well equipped. The grounds are very nice and well kept with a great pool and large hottub. All very nice without being fussy.

We've stayed in Wailea (south side of Maui) in the past and this was our first visit to the west end. Kaanapali area is really a nice choice on the west end because it's only a few minutes to Lahaina and is a bit more relaxed and laid back. We preferred the west end so we'll be back. And we'll be staying at the Mahana. Wonderful property and wonderful people in a terrific location.

Room Tip: Get the highest floor you can. The view is amazing.

Aloha and a big mahalo for giving us a chance over here on the West side of the island, obviously I'm biased but I believe our area here on the northern end of Kaanapali has the best views in the world as you found out. We do appreciate all of our guests who return every year and the welcoming staff that you pointed out make it their top priority to show the Aloha Spirit to all of our guests so they continue to visit us here year after year. We very much hope you will be back to see us soon again as well.
As you mentioned as well, in addition to the year round spectacular oceanfront views of sunsets between the neighboring islands of Molokai and Lanai from all of our units is the various marine life and humpback whales that are here generally between mid December thru the end of April or so.
We all really appreciate all of your nice comments and the fact that you chose the Aston Mahana for your stay here on Maui as we know you have other choices. We look forward to seeing you again real soon.

We went to this condo community for a "babymoon" before the arrival of our first child. It was amazing. The location was very close to Laihana, a very fun dstination, but far enough out of the action that it was restful.

We spent countless hours watching the whales from our room and the staff were very friendly. We will be returning probably next year.

Room Tip: All of the rooms are oceanfront, so you can't get a bad one!

Aloha and mahalo for choosing the Aston Mahana for your "babymoon", never heard the term before but I like it. We're really excited to hear that you were able to relax here and receive great service in preparation for the big event. We wish you all the best with that.
We also very much agree that our location gives our guests the perfect opportunity to see some of the best views in the world from any unit but also from anywhere on the property. You also are situated away from the hustle and bustle with our northern Kaanapali oceanfront location but also a short walk or drive away from numerous dining and shopping options.
We hope you can make it back in the near future, maybe needing a larger room, where our friendly staff can welcome you back with open arms.
We really appreciate your great comments.

Take care, Brian

The property- Very well kept and looks very nice. The pool was warmer than the ocean which was nice, and clean. The hot tub was drained every morning from what I saw and was a pretty good size. We actually spent more time in the hot tub because of the wind and rain during our stay. The beach looks great and is never crowded. There is no bar or restaurant but who cares. There is a snack bar however.

The room- We stayed here in a "studio" style unit (712). The bed was a king size, decorations looked nice, and overall pretty spacious. The washer and dryer was a huge plus, we didn't have to worry about rationing clothes. The fridge and freezer were full size. AC worked wonderfully. The balcony and view were AWESOME. It was great to just look outside and have the Pacific right there. We also saw a good amount of whales, during whale season of course.

Service- housekeeping did a great job and the staff at the front desk are friendly.

The only downside I could think of is if you were someone who wants the whole hotel bar and restaurant. We just bought our own drinks and kept them in the fridge and as far as food we had groceries and would eat out as well. Me and my wife absolutely loved our stay, the view was the best part in my opinion. Will definitely stay here again if I return.

Aloha and mahalo for choosing the Aston Mahana for your stay here on the beautiful island of Maui and also for taking the time to provide feedback on your experience. We're thrilled to hear of the friendly service from the front desk and great job that our housekeeping department did in your unit. Of course, our on-site maintenance staff is also top notch but we're glad that you didn't require their services.
The only downside you mentioned is no bar/restaurant on property however as you did mention all of our units have full kitchens where you can save a little money by having some meals and drinks in the comfort of home so to speak but also with our convenient location here on the North end of Kaanapali you are also within both walking distance or a short drive to many dining and shopping choices.
Our guests also can utilize the complimentary gas grills located at the pool/jacuzzi area where you spent some time relaxing.
We're very happy to hear you found your unit to be clean and comfortable and of course the biggest asset of our property is that all of our units are oceanfront and provide spectacular views of abundant marine life (whales during season), and beautiful sunsets each day between the backdrop of the neighboring islands of Molokai and Lanai.
Washers and dryers in each unit here at the Aston Mahana is also a nice bonus, guests can pack a little less luggage for their trip !!!

We very much hope you can return to see us again real soon and appreciate all of your nice comments.

I have stayed at the Mahana now 5 times (last time August of 12) and when I read the comments from other people my spirit travels to The Mahana and I see myself on the balcony looking at my favorite place. Loking from room 1215 to my left Lanai, the middle the beautiful Pacific and to the right Molokai (is great to see Molokai in the mornings without a single cloud on top. I pray to God that we (my parents and myself) can make it one more time this year and ask again for room 1215 (last August for the last four days we moved to a two room condo, but what I didn't like on this one was that there was so much furniture, making it look at times like a museum. So this year we want our old 1215 again.
Hi Karen, Susan and Peggy!!!! Hope to see you this August!!!!!

Room Tip: Room 1215 is the one I love!!!! Hope the sofa bed has been replaced because it can be rough at time...

We thoroughly enjoyed staying at this property. Our unit was a "premium" 2BR and was just superbly decorated and maintained. The place was spotlessly clean (kudos to the housekeeping staff) and all the furnishings were well-designed and up to date.

The view was extraordinary. We saw numerous whales from the deck and enjoyed beautiful views of Lanai and Molokai.

The beach is right outside the gate and is beautiful. There is quite a bit of coral along the beach here, but it's easy to avoid if you walk 100m or so in either direction. The surf is a bit rough here, so walking down past the larger coral rocks makes for more enjoyable snorkeling.

The location can't be beat...close enough to walk to many restaurants, including the Times grocery, yet unexpectedly quiet on the property.

The pool area is extremely nice...beautiful large pool and very nice large hot tub both of which we enjoyed several times each day.

One really nice thing for us is that this property is mostly an adult community. There were a few teenagers and younger kids present, but all were well-behaved. We did not see any unsupervised kids running about during out stay.

The only thing that kept me from giving this property 5 stars was the annoying "amenities fee" of $10.42 charged each day. Let me say kudos to the property managers for fully disclosing this up front both on their website and on the confirmation emails.....very professional handling of the matter, but why do this at all? We were paying several hundred dollars per day for our unit so why not just up the prices $10. Maybe it's just me, but somehow seeing it tacked on separately just seemed cheesy. To make it worse, they hand out a paper at check in telling you all the things you get for your $10....just standard stuff you'd expect to get at this price point - newspaper, one small serving of coffee, one tea bag, etc. My pursuit of one extra tea bag each day became a comical escapade for us. We stopped by the desk each day for my extra tea bag and although the hostesses at the desk cheerfully obliged it just seemed a silly thing to have to do. For ten bucks just put some coffee and tea in the room like nearly all hotels do these days.

By the way, one comment to help set expectations for other guests. This is a collection of privately owned condominiums. It is not a hotel. Consequently it does not have a doorman, bellman, no one to assist with luggage, no luggage carts etc. There is a front desk but just for checkin/checkout. The girls are polite, but you don't experience the welcoming feeling/greeting typically found at hotels.

One other very nice feature was the gas grills out by the pool. These are very nice upscale grills which make it really easy to cookout if one wishes.

Overall, we highly recommend this place and will definitely stay here again next time we are in the area.....a 5-star property with a silly $10 daily fee being the only negative assessment.

Aloha and mahalo for taking the time to let us know of your experience at the Aston Mahana, we're thrilled to hear that we exceeded your expectations.
While it is true that every unit here has a private owner, this is why in this type of condominium setting we can offer units with full kitchens and the guest can truly feel that they are in their home away from home. All of the guests in the Aston units here at the Mahana do enjoy the benefits of a 24 hour front desk, as well as daily housekeeping and maintenance staff on property to address any needs they may have. We're very happy to hear that you found the room to be spotless as it is our housekeeping staff's goal to make sure that all of our units are clean and comfortable for all of our guests.
While there is no bell staff here at the Mahana we do have luggage carts available for guest's use near both elevator landings. We do completely agree that the Mahana's location is perfect, the setting is quiet and private yet we are within easy walking or a short drive to many shopping and dining options here on the north end of Kaanapali.
Of course, the views from this area are some of the best in the world with all sorts of marine life and beautiful sunsets right appearing daily right between the neighboring islands of Molokai and Lanai. Every unit here is oceanfront so everyone enjoys these same breathtaking views and you can also get the same thing from our pool/jacuzzi/complimentary gas grill area or oceanfront lawn as well.
We do apologize for your disappointment with the amenity fee here at the Mahana but we do our best to of course make sure the guests know about ahead of time but also outline all of the things you receive with this cost. Use of the safe in the unit, local calls, daily replacement of the coffee, tea and laundry detergent and delivery of a daily newspaper are all included. The flagship of the program though is the unlimited use of the DVD Now kiosk located at the property where guests receive a card at check-in to get movies or games unlimited (2 at a time) during their entire stay utilizing the Play Station player located in all of our units.
Also, our property also does not charge for parking nor the high speed wi-fi internet access provided in each unit. We are sorry for your frustration with the fee but hope that our guests find great value in everything provided to them.
All of us here at the Aston Mahana though have a goal of showing the Aloha spirit to all of our guests and providing them with memorable experiences to return home with. We very much hope you will also choose to stay with us again.

Mahalo, Brian
