“Spacious, luxurious, relaxing, great family stay.”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed April 14, 2013

We had a wonderful stay at the Alii. Before arriving I requested a room on the 8th floor or higher with updated furnishings and remodeled unit. We stayed on the 11th floor in a two bedroom, fully remodeled, beautiful unit. The master had a king bed and second bedroom had two doubles, along with a murphy bed off the living room. Very nicely decorated and furnished. Beds were comfortable, condo had three large flat screen tv's with dvd players. Internet in room was only through plug in internet (would have liked wireless for phones!). There was wireless internet by the pool. Kitchen was fully stocked with everything we needed to cook, just needed to purchase ziplocs and foil at store (dont buy until you check your unit! At the end of our trip I discovered another closet with all these amenities!) All condos have washer and dryers which is soooo nice! Did laundry throughout the week and didnt come home with dirty clothes! And we were able to wash our beach towels. Laundry detergent is also provided. The rooms are supplied with shampoo, soap, towels, etc.

Upon arrival the bellman cleared out our fully loaded Tahoe of all our luggage and costco trip, took all of it to our condo and brought it all in. Gave us a tour of the condo and resort and asked if we had any questions. Very friendly staff and seem as though they enjoy their job! Did not encounter one person that wasnt friendly!
This resort is not like the big hotels around with restaurants and bar on site. But you are able to bring your cooler down to the pool with drinks and food. And because it is smaller, with only 260 condos, there are fewer people there and because of the price, no "rif-raf". They do rent boogey boards, snorkel equipment and the conceirge is very helpful with renting surfboards as well as booking excursions off site. You receive a coupon upon check in to book through the conceirge at a discount as well. The conceirge also gave us coupons for many restaurants in the area. They also have beach towels, but we purchased towels at costco and were very happy we did so (used them everywhere!).

We bbq'ed almost every night. The grills are very well maintained (better than resorts next to us, as I looked and compared!). There is a chef down at the grill area in the evening to assist with spices for meats/vegetables. It is right on the beach and an amazing place to grill watching the sunset. Our family preferred doing this than going out to eat! And we traveled with two teenage boys! They supply paper plates, napkins, utensils and have aluminum foil. Great place to fix dinner while the family swims in the pool or ocean, enjoying a relaxing drink and meeting new people.

The gym is nice, didnt really use it as we enjoyed jogging along the beach every morning instead being inside! Also did not use the spa.

The beach is directly in front of the Alii. The staff will take your chairs to where ever you want to sit on the beach. They do not rent umbrellas, which I think they should! But you can purchase one (or your condo may have one) and the staff will set that up for you as well. The "cabanas" are like all the "cabanas" along the beach, two reclining chairs with shade for $50-not worth it. But we loved sitting in the chairs watching our boys surf! We snorkeled along the beach where the surf isnt as active and loved it as well. Our boys took surfing lessons which are directly in front of the Alii as well. Sand is soft, surf wasnt that strong in front of Alii. In front of Marriot there are lots of rocks and coral so make sure to wear water shoes (they call it the boneyard in front of Marriot). Beach in front of Alii is soft and not necessary to wear water shoes.
Overall, would definitely return as the resort is very well maintained and beautiful. The condos are huge with large balconies that make your trip so enjoyable! Our family of four was able to stay out of each other's way and enjoy evenings watching movies together, watching the sunset and enjoying family time!

Room Tip: Do not get a room facing the Westin as they are doing lots of construction and can be noisy.

I have stayed in a few Kaanapali condos over the years. Marriott, The Whaler and now the Alii, and I have to say, hands down, this is the best experience I've ever had. We rented through an owner and we rented another unit for my elderly mother in law through the rental agency. They made sure our condos were next door to one another. The service we received from the porters, the smiling and helpful employees at the pool, the grill masters, were all top notch. This place is beautiful and while you do pay for all those lovely things, it is worth every penny. Also, it has ruined me for any other condo on Kaanapali beach. I will never stay anywhere else. Our condo was roomy, 1-112 and my mother in law's was even more gorgeous 1-114 with daily maid service. Very near the pool area and beach access. Did I mention the beach? Basically a private beach with beach chairs already on the beach for you to use and also cabanas and umbrellas to rent. It doesn't get much better than this folks. It's just that little bit of extra luxury that sets this condo resort apart from the others. Thank you Kaanapali Alii for the best Maui holiday yet!

We rented a 3 bedroom, 2 bath condo for 6 nights and found it to be perfect in every way. Perfect location next to the Westin for brunch, down the path from the Sheraton for Black Rock snorkeling, in front of the best Ka'anapail break for body surfing and boarding, near the best beached of Kapaula for snorkeling and Flemings for some crash into the bank body surfing, and down for the Farmer's Market for the best pineapple, avocados, and apple bananas on the planet. We will return, God willing, and miss it already!

Room Tip: Ocean view may mean just a lil peek, but get outside and enjoy what's right in front of you.

This is my 18th trip staying at The Alii. Several employees date back to the 1980's when the place opened. It says a lot about the place when the employees love to be there. They never say welcome back. It's always welcome home. Makes you feel special. No better spot on West Maui. It's got it all. New this year were the addition of the Grill Masters. These 3 or 4 chefs that were there for the month that we stayed, help you prepare and cook your food on the beach side grills. What a brainchild of an idea. No hogging or wasting time on the 8 huge grills that wake up every morning and look as though they were just installed out of the box. How do they keep them so clean is a top secret. Way to go management on a great call.

Room Tip: Just speak to anyone at the front desk. They all tend to make all callers feel like family. This i...

I need to start with the most positive aspects of this place... Service, service, service. I travel all the time, and rarely have I encountered a hotel/resort with this kind of consistent, friendly, helpful service. EVERY person we interacted with during our stay greeted us with a genuine smile and really tried to help -- front desk, maid service, maintenance crews, etc. I cannot say enough good things about how well run this place is.

The beach is fantastic... not overly crowded, but fun... very family friendly for kids of all ages or even just adults. The Whalers Village area and boardwalk were fantastic -- easy access to several good restaurants, lots of beach activities, etc. Even a starbucks a block away on the beach!

We rented a one bedroom condo. Two bathrooms and tons of space. It came with a "den" which was basically a spare bedroom with it's own bathroom. Perfect for the kids. Even though we did not have an "ocean front" the view of the beach and ocean was still good. We were able watch whales with our binoculars every morning. The room even had two brand new LCD TV's, although i don't think we ever turned them on!

The room was clean and neat, and the full kitchen (every pot/pan/utensil you'd need) was nice for the few nights we just needed to chill out. And the resort has eight fantastic BBQ grills for use for free. A "chef" is on staff every evening to help you out with spices, tin foil, and even cooking tips. Those grills were spotless every morning for the next days use.

The only negative comment -- the rooms were "dated"... the cabinets, tile, walls, and furniture was all very old. For such a high-end place I was actually a little surprised at that. But, in the big scheme of all the other positive things about this place, it was easy to quickly overlook this one downside.

As I said, the beach was great... very deep and lots of room. I'm pretty sure this was the busiest weekend of the year and there was still plenty of room on our section of the beach (other parts of North and South with the bigger hotels were a little busier than ours.) Swimming, snorkeling and surfing all right out side your door.

Mauii is amazing. But I left Kaanapali Alii just as amazed by the service. Thank you to every one there for making our stay so great!

Had we known we would be getting a 2 bedroom suite, we would have invited more to stay with us! There was a full newly renovated kitchen and dining area! it was fabulous! The staff was excellent and the restaurants were great! I must stay for families!

This is a great place to stay on the beach. We had a large one bedroom condo with den. The den had a full size bed and private bath so it was basically a 2 bedroom unit. Beautifully furnished, everything you need was provided including coffee.
Although we were on the 2nd floor we had a view of the courtyard and the ocean. The pool area is lovely, towels are provided. Next door are hotels with larger pools, our teenagers pool hopped and had a blast.
Service impeccable. Would highly recommend staying at this resort. My only complaint and it's a small one is that because it's not a hotel there is no food or bar service at the pool but you can bring your own from your condo.
