“Very nice. Just no sandy beach.”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed March 10, 2013 via mobile

Rented a beautiful private condo L402. Spectacular remodelled unit. Panoramic ocean view off lanai. We loved it. Nice property with 2 pools, putting courses, ponds, cabana clubs and more. Wish we had some sandy beach for the kids but walk or drive south of the resort for tons of open sandy beach. We will be back for sure. Best value for 2 families looking for 3 beds and 3 baths with kitchen and ocean view!!

We enjoyed watching the many whales during our 11 day stay at Papakea. This was the fifth time we had stayed at Papakea. Every time we have had an ocean front room. This last time we were on the third floor of the A building in an excellent unit. I appreciate the updated units. The grounds are beautiful and very well-maintained. My granddaughter enjoyed the pools. I have found management to be very helpful and kind to us during our bookings and our stays

Not a great experience. When we arrived, the clerk said they didn't have our room because they had some mechanical issues. Then they said they wouldn't have our room until the next day after noon because the other person wouldn't be out until then. The moved us to a neighboring resort for one night. The accommodations were great there but very inconvenient to have to pack up and unpack again. We asked around a little and found that this was a common practice for the Papakea resort. Two different sources said they often were over booked.

The couch in the unit was duty. The master sink did not work. We had to call maintenance to get the master TV to work. To top it all off. No one got a very good nights sleep. You hear EVERYTHING from everyone walking by. (We were on the 2nd floor) So anytime anyone would be coming home late or leaving early, we woke up.

When we called the manager regarding the overbooking, he reluctantly asked what he could do to make it right and offered $100.00 credit to the restaurant next door. While we did appreciate that, it really got our stay off to a bad start. Two days wasted in moving around. I would recommend staying somewhere else. There were other smaller items that we didn't appreciate but I think you get the idea from what I've listed.

Room Tip: Don't stay here

Stayed here for a week in a room with 6 adults and an Infant. The room never felt too small. The view was great. Loved the pools and putting greens. We had booked through a website (I believe it was MauiDreams or something) so the only drawback from that was we didn't get any room service for the duration of our trip. Which was ok cause all the units in the place have in-suite washer/dryer (and honestly, I don't like room service people coming into my room anyway).

Located across the street from a grocery store and mini mall, we had everything we needed.

The only drawback for me was the lack of a nice beach behind the resort... but that minor inconvenience wasn't enough to upset me.

Room Tip: The rooms in the "D" building appear to get a lot of wind, especially if your on the "...

We stayed at Papakea for nine nights in February. We stayed in A206 for six nights and E304 for three more. A206 has an excellent, well equipped kitchen and privacy on the lanai. The view is straight out at Molokai, no garden or pool view. Great for spotting whales. The couch was totally uncomfortable and there was no arm chair, only stools. E304 is excellently furnished, including granite counters and hardwoods inside, teak furniture on the not so private lanai. The kitchen is well equipped but small with no prep space. Excellent view of the ocean, pool, gazebo and grounds. We booked thru Maui Dreams Come True. Never again. I initiated almost every contact. After we'd arrived, there was no contact at all until I called just before the move to E304 to find out how that worked. We were promised a call back on the day of the move. Never happened. The cleaning man helped us make arrangements. Go figure. Papakea has no sand beachfront, and parking is not assigned. The sand starts at the Aston Shores next door(Aston also owns Papakea) Papakea's grounds are very nice, and the koi pond is exceptional. Market shopping and restaurants are a five minute walk.

Room Tip: Book one in the E building, but not through Maui Dreams Come True.

We stayed here for a week as we were considering a purchase here. The condo we stayed in was nicely updated with granite, tile and stainless steel appliances. While we enjoyed the condo, there were enough drawbacks to convince us to look elsewhere.

My primary complaint would be the noise level. The way this resort is built, sound seems to bounce between the buildings with no way out. We consistently heard people in the next building bouncing back to us on the Lanai.

Another niggle is the lack of a good beach on property although there are a couple within easy walking distance.

I don't want to leave the reader with the impression that this isn't a nice resort, but I think you can do better closer to Kaanapali.

Loved this condo! I came with 6 people and stayed in a 3 bedroom condo and it was perfect for us. Ocean views, easy to walk to a lot of places & nice property. Had a washer & dryer, and a full kitchen if you want to save money by cooking in sometimes. I wish they brought new towels everyday like a hotel but it wasn't too bad washing some ourselves.
