“Love the Villas”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed October 22, 2006

We just got back from Maui. We stayed 10/13 thru 10/20 at the Villas for the 3rd time. We love it. The location is great. The beach is wonderful at the hotel. Great swimming beach. And if you like to snorkel like us theres a great snorkeling beach just north of the hotel walking on the beach from the hotel. We love black rock also to lay on the beach and snorkel and we take the trolley from the hotel to whalers village, its great. We always eat lunch in the Cannery mall as they have a great food court. And shopping on front street is a lot of fun too. Don't miss Bubba Gumps and Cheeseburger in Paradise there also on front street. This is our 5th time to Maui, We really love it. It's fun, relaxing and just beautiful always. We will continue to stay at the villas and have never had any problems there at all.

We knew we wanted to be on Kaanapali Beach -- but didn't really care which hotel/condo we ended up in -- so we decided to book thru Hotwire.

The ResortQuest Kaanapali Villas was a wonderful place. Our room (on the ground floor of the Banyan bldg) couldn't have been better. The owners REALLY kept it nice.

The bed was confortable and they had recently installed a stone inlayed walk-in shower with a rainforrest showerhead.

We did have dinner one night at the Castaway Cafe. The food was reasonably priced. I had seafood alfredo and my husband had a burger.

Our favorite place to go on Kaanapali Beach for food is the Hula Grill in Whaler's Village. GO THERE! The fish & chips are awesome!! Plus the Blue Hawaii's are yummy. You can walk to Whaler's Village from the hotel/condo -- but it'll take you 30 min. There's a free trolly/shuttle that you can take (but be forewarned that it's on "island time").

Snorkeling by Black Rock is awesome. We'd previously stayed at the Sheraton, so we decided to snorkel on that side. We saw a ton of fish, a turtle, and even a sting ray!

I have nothing bad to say about the ResortQuest Kaanapali Villas! Hopefully we'll get to stay there again!

  • Liked — The ease of getting around -- it was easy to find your way around.
  • Disliked — It's a litle farther from Whaler's Village than we would have preferred
  • Tips/Secrets — Take the trolley to Whaler's Village (it's free!)

I was very pleasantly suprised when I stepped into our lovely studio at the Kaanapali Villas! After reading the reviews I was expecting a very shabby outdated room. When I stepped in our studio I was very pleased with our newly remodeled kitchen and bathroom. Our room was very spacious and clean with plenty of windows and light. The kitchen had granite counter tops and new cabinetry.
Eventhough the Villas did not have the true resort feel like the Hyatt, it was very mellow and down to earth. It does look older, but the lush grass, palm trees, flowers, and tiki torches really makes up for it. Best of all this hotel is prime location! We had great beaches just footsteps from our door.
If you want to stay at a nice place at an affordable deal, than I would highly recommend this hotel. You can't get much better than here with the price you pay!

  • Liked — location and price
  • Disliked — the pool was too small
  • Tips/Secrets — staying in Kaanapali has the best beaches and is close to Lahaina where all the restaurants and shops are. It's a prime location

Our family just had 10 days in Hawaii. Most of the stay was on Oahu, which was great, lots to see & do with kids 11 & 13. I did my research before travelling, and used the great resources of Tripadviser, so I thought accommodation wise we'd be spot on. For the first hotel, Hilton Hawaiian Village, we did very well. Unfortunately our second choice of the ResortQuest Kaanapali Villas once we 'd moved to Maui, was a bit of a disappointment. We did arrive early, so they found us a room, although we would have been quite happy to wait. It had just been cleaned, we think that about 5 minutes previously they had cleaned up the vomit on the loungeroom floor, (it was all wet & smelly). Also, it was a smoking room and the stench was awful. We booked our accommodation 9 months previously, so it wasn't like they didn't know we were coming! We decided to ask for another room. I was very polite and said that we were not smokers and could we have a non smoking room. Yes they said we'll move you to another for another USD$50.00 a night, this was a discounted rate! It should have been free! But we're too nice to complain. We took it of course, but it really wasn't good enough. Also the lady in the grocery shop there was busy cutting her toenails - ON THE COUNTER - when we went in for supplies. So don't say you haven't been warned! For the most part the place was in a good spot, but it was old, a bit tired, and the restaurant was very, very average, and none of it was extremely cheap.

after reading some of the reviews here i was a bit worried about what we'd find. I was more than pleasantly surprised. We were upgraded without charge from a studio to a one bedroom (coconut #262). It was very recently remodeled and in pristine condition. the pull out sofa bed was even comfortable! We were actually on the roadside, and i never heard any street traffic at all.
The grounds were extrmemely well maintained with many flowering bushes and trees. I did not think it was dated at all. The overall atmosphere was very homey. Which i preferred to the slick marriot and hyatt. Their pools were so crowded guests go down at 6am to put out towels to get chairs! The pools at the Villas were clean and quiet. And even offer free scuba lessons!
The Castaway restaurant had great local fare and very reasonable prices. If you are looking for fine 5 star dining, its not. But the food was fantastic and the service very friendly. The lobby staff was also very friendly, including the gift shop lady!
The beach was never crowded. The prices on cabanas and other water gear reasonable. Two great snorkeling areas within a short walk (I saw a turtle!) There is a luau at the hotel next door...you can walk over and watch from the grounds or just listen from the beach. Also, be sure to do the downhill bike ride...i used bike it maui, and they were superb!
Overall this was a great place to stay. Even if the Hyatt or Marriott were in my budget, I would still choose the Villas! If you prefer quiet, calm, minus the hustle and bustle, you will too.

Nice hotel overall. Pros: very friendly and helpful staff, well-kept condo units (at least our garden view unit was), very beautiful grounds with views of both the ocean and mountains, nice beach area for adults and children alike, easy access to the pools and beach, nice ocean view restaurant, close proximity to Kaanapali and Lahaina shopping, restaurants, and (Lahaina) marina. Cons: on north end of black rock where resorts are right next to the main road (pretty views, but can be a little noisy depending on room location... we had no desire to use the lanai... Kaanapali area south of the black rock is set away more from the main road... fewer sirens and truck noise); no complimentary beach chairs on beach (although you can rent chairs); a few too many rules for the kids in and around the pool (no Marco Polo, loud play, ball, etc.) Despite this, our kids did have fun and so did we. Nice value overall.

Just returned from a five day stay at the Maui Kaanapali Villas. We rented an Ocean View studio from a private owner. Got a pretty good deal, and thought it was a great value. The beach in front of the property is really the best in the area. Much less crowded than on the Sheraton side, but still within walking distance (which we did twice- took about 20 mins) if you want to go over to the where the shops and restaurants are. We hung out at the beach in front of the Sheraton one day, to go snorkeling at Black Rock, but it was very crowded and busy. Definately preferred our beach. This is not the place to go if you are wanting something fancy, but it is great if you are on a budget and want a good location. We weren't impressed with the restaurant, but we only ate breakfast there, so maybe lunch and dinner is better. Much better to use the kitchen for light meals anyway, and maybe go out to Lahina for a few nice dinners. The staff we encountered were friendly enough, one of the maintence crew even went to the lobby to get matches for us so we could light our candles. Overall it was a great experience and I would recommend it!
