“Clean and comfortable room, immaculate grounds, had everything we needed.”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed May 21, 2013

We booked through expedia, so we did not have a specific room assignment. We were assigned a king bed garden view room at first, but when we went in, realizing it was one of the "dated" units, we opt to see a few more rooms. We saw a couple more and finally settled on a somewhat renovated unit with 2 double beds. We had corner room 135 in the Banyan building. kitchen looked redone with granite counter tops, clean appliances, tiled floor, it had everything we need for cooking a few meals. Beds were comfortable and housekeeping came everyday. The Banyan building worked perfect for us because we were away from the pool noise but not more than 2 minute walk away from it and the beach.

I need to extend a much needed Mahalo to the housekeeping staff for the few times they had to clean sand out of our condo thanks to the hubby's morning beach runs! The grounds keepers were also amazing, we saw them out there everyday cutting the grass, cleaning up, all day long.

The beach right outside of the resort was picture perfect, clean white sand, water was beautiful and clear for swimming, lounging. Although there wasn't much coral to snorkel around right out front, take a 5 minute walk to the Westin and you can swim with turtles and the hundreds of colorful fish. Suggestion, drive out to Kahana (5 minutes up north) and rent good snorkel gear for $5 (24hrs) or $10 (an entire week) and boogie boards ($4/$8). (The activity shack charges $10 for 24hr snorkel gear and $10 for an hour for the boogie board!)

The Castaway cafe was great for a quick lunch a few days when we were lounging at the pool and playing on the beach. Prices were very reasonable, the bartenders (Wayne) made us feel right at home. The Happy Hour drink prices were also unbeatable.

The only complaint we really have was that the front desk staff didn't have as much aloha as we have come to expect in Hawaii. The one lady who checked us in wasn't unfriendly, but she wasn't exactly welcoming either. Oh well, we only had a couple of interactions with her, so no big deal.

Overall, would definitely stay here again, it's very family friendly (many young families with kids between toddler ages up to 7 and grandparents too!), and it's also couple friendly. We would highly recommend MKV to family and friends!

Room Tip: Opt for one 3 two story buildings, get a ground floor unit because it really beats not having to wal...

This was our first time to Maui, and we loved this resort! With the exception of the less than friendly front desk clerk at check in, the rest of the staff were friendly and helpful. We asked for another room as ours was facing the parking lot, and we were given keys to several other rooms to check out, and chose a ground floor room in the Banyan building facing the small pool. It was so nice to come 'home' at the end of a long day and relax on the lanai, and walk over to the pool and hot tub. The grounds are gorgeous, and the walk to the beach through the resort was lovely. The beach is excellent, not crowded at all and we just took our towels and plopped on the sand. We saw turtles swimming by, and floated around in the water. It was heaven! We had massages in the day spa - highly recommend this! The Castaway Cafe was nice (you can sit and watch the sunset), but pricey for what you got I thought. But still nice to wander over for dinner when you didn't feel like going out. We rented a car and Lahaina is only a short drive away for shopping. Will be coming back again, and will definitely stay here.

Room Tip: Banyan building was quiet and relaxing - close to the pool.

A group of us just stayed 7 nights at MKV. Our villa was a beautiful premium suite in the main bulidling, full of upgrades, brand new everything, spacious, super clean, separate bedroom with a really comfortable king size bed. We had everything we needed to be comfortable, cook and clean our entire stay. The staff was really friendly and helpful, guys at the front desk were cool and more helpful than the people working at the concierge desk. The rest of our group had villas in the banyan and coconut buildings their rooms didn't have all of the upgrades ours did but were still really nice. We meet up several nights to grill on one of the large outdoor stainless grilling areas. The beachfront pool and spa was awesome, clean and comfortable. Castaway cafe on the resort was good, all of the bartenders and all but one lady on the table staff were really friendly. The best server was a man who's name I believe was Phillip (or Patrick? We were very tired when we first met!) he was awesome, funny, friendly, and full of information!! The food was OK but the we ate there several times anyways and wine menu and "lava flow" on the cocktail menu were especially awesome. It's a good place sit and watch the sun go down. Mitch at the equipment rental place on the beach was really cool and helpful. They have a lot of stuff for rent, we rented snorkel gear, boogie boards, beach chairs and cabanas at really good prices. There is a reef about 100 yards from the resort you can snorkel at, we saw all kinds of beautiful colorful fish, an eel, blow fish, and 3 seas turtles when we went. The water is pure blue and clear and the beach in front of the resort is really clean and the water was calm and safe. I also had a really nice massage and facial at the third heaven spa in the hotel, it was really clean and comfortable and relaxing. We had a great time here and we will be back next year!!!!!!

The four of us ladies spent 5 days there and ended up enjoying our stay quite a bit. Upon arriving, we were a bit concerned as the woman at the front desk was really unfriendly and unwelcoming. No welcome drink, just an uninterested hello and here's your room, etc. We had a 2 bedroom 2 1/2 bath ground floor unit facing one of the courtyards, near the lobby. The furnishings were fine, the kitchen pretty well equipped, and there was a very nice bbq right outside. The beds were quite comfortable and overall we were quite pleased. After exploring the entire island, we can say with certainty that the beach right there is one of the best on the island, uncrowded and with great snorkeling. Pool was ok, but hot tub was ridiculously small.
My only suggestions would be:warmer welcome to your guests, supply units with mosquito coils: we all got lots of bites from just sitting on the patio, and definitely upgrade the towels in the rooms.

Room Tip: There is a huge variety of rooms there.

This is my first day back from MKV (Maui) and I couldn't rave enough about the time we spent there. I will admit i was a little scared about the villa's when I booked but, when we checked in #126 I was pleasantly surprised! Our room was beautiful, granite and Tommy Bahama Furniture. The rest of our wedding party guests checked in two days later and they were upgraded for no charge, which was an amazing gift for the bride and groom and their kids. I loved the grounds everything was beautiful, there was a bar close by that served yummy drinks. I would suggest the Lava Flow or Blue Lagoon they were sooo good. The Castaway cave was close and resonably priced, over looking the ocean. The staff was friendly, and the gift shop was well equipt. We road the trolley, and had the concierge staff set us up with the Luau next door, which was great; the Valley Isle Excursion Road to Hana, suggest you request "DEBORAH" she made our trip; and we did the Quicksilver catameran to Molikini.
I couldn't have asked for a better trip!

Room Tip: #151,#126, #156 were all great rooms

My husband and I stayed 3 nights at this hotel. Upon arrival at the Kaanapali Villas, we were promptly greeted by the friendly staff and offered iced tea while checking in. We were then told that we had been upgraded to a premium oceanview suite. The room was amazing with a gorgeous view! The quiet and spacious one-bedroom condo had all the upgraded amenities and added luxuries that made our stay very enjoyable. And in addition to the wonderful staff and the perfect location by the beach, we could not have asked for a better place to stay while on vacation in beautiful Maui. Highly recommended!

My husband and I have stayed in unit #177 Dolphin building every year for over the past 15 years now and find it to consistently be the most relaxing enjoyable vacation of our 26 year marriage. We love everything about the condo and the villas. The place has a retro laid back feel with all the important amenities. THE THIRD HEAVEN SPA located in the reception main building is simple and relaxing. Not fancy but you will have one of the best massages of your life with Wainani Kealaha. I highly recommend her. I get the 90 minute Full Session Massage. She is great with acupressure and hitting those points along with the soothing hot stones etc etc. You will be floating around afterwards I assure you.
