“Great location, comfortable room, excellent staff”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed December 5, 2011

First vacation in seven years for us was a hit - thoroughly enjoyed the facilities. Room (#320) was very clean with daily housekeeping (they even did the dishes a couple of times!) Peekaboo view of the ocean and great view of the grounds. Impressive grounds-keeping crew made it possible to walk barefoot pretty much everywhere. Direct access to beach and short walk to reef with multitudes of fish available for your snorkeling activities. Did not use the restaurant due to abundance of fresh fruit and seafood that we prepared in our kitchen. Only a couple of items stops us from giving an excellent rating: Depending on the wind, the traffic noise could be significant due to nearby highway (not enough to keep us awake though) and the niggling issue that there is supposed to be a free Mai Tai night that was promised when we checked in but which was cancelled without warning (it fell on Thanksgiving day). Otherwise, we feel that the Villas provide very good value - we will definitely consider it for our next trip.

We stayed here over the Thanksgiving holiday for 12 nights and were absolutely delighted. We stayed in the Banyan in Room 225. The room was immaculate, the housekeeping excellent, and the front desk friendly and helpful. The grounds are beautiful and thoroughly enjoyed the quietness of the small pool and the Castaway restaurant. The location is gorgeous and easy to get to. It was our third time to stay at this property and were not disappointed and will stay again.

We stayed here for a week the beginning of November and it was first class all the way. The grounds were immaculate, right on the beach and beach walk. The front desk and Shirley the concierge were wonderful. The Castaway bar and restaraunt were great too. I would come here again. We stayed in room 405 in the aloha tower and it was fantastic. Hopefully we can make it back here for our 5 yr anniversary but I don't want to wait that long.

We had a villa on the ground floor that backed on to the back pool and it was heaven waking up every morning and eating breakfast on the terrace. The villa was clean and homey with a full service kitchen. Most nights we cooked our own meals and when we wanted to go out for supper we could just walk down to the Castaway Cafe on the beach for supper or a super delicious dessert and night cap.
All the staff were friendly and helpful as well as our 'neighbours' in the surrounding villas. We made some great friends! The whole experience was like being at home but with beautiful weather and beaches. When we come back to Maui this is where we will being staying for sure!

We really enjoy it : the room is clean with a beautiful view on the sea, even if it is only a standard room (hotel room named)
We have a balcony where we can take a drink. Some room have a kitchen.
There is a nice garden inside the complex with a nice swimming pool and a small restaurant, not too expensive.
We are very close to the beach. And it is one of the most beautiful.
With my husband we like walking in the sidewalk, front to the beach, and that leads to Whale village, plenty of restaurants and shops.
Then people at the reception are nice and helpful when the door remained unfortunately locked one night.

The only bad point (but not for us) could be the decoration, that is a new but not modern.
And also the fitness center with old engines.

I really don't see why people take a four star hotel here.

Sorry if my English is not perfect I m from Europe

This review relates to a stay in April so sorry for the delay but such a nice place felt I needed to add a review - we booked a 1 bdm suite overlooking the pool (on the 4th floor) which suited us as we travelled with 2 kids 10yr and 8 mth old - this unit was a well cared for by its owners (timeshare?) they even had a guest book for your feedback and family photos so it was like staying in someones private unit.
We stayed for 10 nights here and the kitchen was well appointed so once stocked up from the local supermarket managing meals was easy, especially with the little one. we had a couple of meals from the onsite restaurant they were OK and well priced for what you get.
If you are looking for a self contained accm, travelling with kids, on the beach and close to shops but not right next to them then this is a good one to go with.

Room Tip: some accm blocks are a walk from the beach pool so if you have kids and like to be close by then con...

My wife and I stayed here for two weeks while on our honeymoon, and we loved every minute of it. We wanted a larger condo-style room with a kitchen, not a standard hotel with nowhere to cook. Our room in the Banyan building was perfect for what we needed. It was a large (1100 square feet) two-story condo with a kitchen, dining room, living room, bedroom loft, and two bathrooms. It was a little awkward that the bedroom loft only had a small bathroom with a toilet and sink attached, and that the main bathroom suite was downstairs. Our unit was outfitted with modern kitchen appliances, two flat-screen TVs, and nice furniture. It was cleaned every day by the staff.
The hotel grounds are amazing and are maintained very well. The hotel is right on the beach with easy access. There are two pools, each with a separate jacuzzi. The main pool near the beach is quite large, and has a bridge over it with a waterfall. There can be quite a few children in this pool. The smaller pool next to the Banyan building typically used by adults and quieter than the main pool.
The Castaway Cafe is the hotel's restaurant, and is located next to the main pool. The prices vary, but tend to be on the expensive side. Once a week, all pasta is half off. The chefs are great, and even substituted Mahi Mahi for shrimp in a dish because I can not eat shrimp.
The staff was very friendly, and treated us like family. We liked the mai tai parties with live music every Wednesday. The staff serves free mai tais, local snacks, and smiles.
It seems like some of the negative reviews are from people who do not research hotels before they book. This is not a luxury hotel or resort with every amenity and that charges extremely high room rates. The Kaanapali Villas is a family-oriented complex made of individually owned condos.
I have been to Maui several times with my family before, and this was my favorite place to stay. My wife and I enjoyed our stay here, and we plan on returning again soon. I
