“Great place but rent the suites.”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed November 15, 2011 via mobile

Units in B, C, and D are great. Location is away from the Kaahanapali craziness but still only a short walk away from the shops at Whalers Village. The restaurant is great.

We started with a regular hotel room, which was in pretty shabby condition: one of the worst mattresses I've ever slept on, corroded window frames, extremely noise AC, carpet that came out of a 70's sitcom, lots of noise from equipment outside the room (oddly, the bathroom had clearly been remodeled sometime this century and was in very good condition). We upgraded to a studio for the remainder of our stay (at extra cost), and that was actually fairly nice.

We definitely weren't the only folks with complaints about the hotel rooms, based on the other folks we met at the front desk that were also switching rooms.

The food at the Castaway Cafe isn't very good, but the crowd is entertaining.

Some of the best snorkeling we found was just steps away from the hotel, sunsets from the beach are fabulous, and there's a nice little farmer's market stand just across the highway.

Room Tip: Avoid the regular hotel rooms. If you stay here, get one of the condos.

Aloha and thanks for choosing our resort. I am sorry to hear that the first room you received was not up to standards. Thank you for letting us know, we appreciate the feedback, it helps us improve. I am glad to hear that the second room you received was more to your liking and that our staff was responsive. I agree we do have some of the best snorkeling and a fantastic beach right in front of our property.
I hope you will give us another chance in the future as we are in a state of continuous improvement.

This hotel is only OK. The rooms are outdated. The bathrooms are a little smelly, dingy and stained, although they were kept clean. We had a nice enough time, but two things ruined it. We walked to the hotel next door and it was stunningly beautiful...which left us feeling a little bummed. But we got over that. The last night there, a two inch cockroach crawled above our bed. Disgusting and scary. The security guard promptly came to our room and caught it...but how am I supposed to sleep knowing another one may appear from under the countertop in the kitchen where it tried to hide form us?! I even tried to get a different hotel even though we were flying out in 9 hours.
They could do a lot to improve this place. A facelift is definitely needed. Also, there is no waiter that comes to take your order at the pool. The beach is fantastic and swimmable (I believe not a lot of beaches in Maui are this nice), however, they do not provide you with beach lounger chairs. Instead, you have to purchase a cabana at 26 bucks a day or park yourself on a towel. The food at the restaurant onsite was not good and there is no room service. I realize this is a timeshare property, but it could be alot nicer with only a little effort.

Tip:The Gazebo had the best breakfast. It is in some random timeshare property out of the way. Google it. You have to get there at 7am when the line starts forming. Worth it! YUM!

Aloha-
Thank you for staying at our property and thanks for the feedback.
I am sorry to hear that an insect ruined your stay here. I think you have every right to have a bug free stay. I am glad to hear our staff was responsive. Many visitors are surprised at the amount of insects we have in the tropics as compared to there home locale. We have a very strong preventative program in place that is provided by a very professional and nationally recognized pest control company. They spray our rooms like clock work. It is, however, never 100% because of the proliferation of insects in our tropical environment.

Great Hotel. Easy Access to the Beach. Happy Hour was ok. Restaurant had decent food. Friendly staff that was knowledgeable about the property and tourist attractions on Maui. Mai Tai party was cool. Would stay here again. The price seemed right on.

Great place to stay. Shops and restaurants are close by. The beach was close by and exciting. The pool was always crowded but the area was always kept cleaned. Staff was visible all the time cleaning and up-keeping the property. I had a full kitchen in my room so that helped out in a good way. I will definitely be back again. The restaurant served some good food. The bartender was polite and very knowledgeable about the night life on the island.

Over all the hotel was relaxing and quite

Had the opportunity to visit these condos just this October and LOVED it. Great Front Desk staff. Patrick and Georgina truly has the guest best interest in mind. I had the Garden view studio Banyan Building on the 2nd floor. It was only a 3-4 minute walk to the beachfront swimming pool and beach. Castaway Cafe serves a delicious breakfast beachfront too. The unit itself more than accomodating for a Single family or couple. This particular unit was nicely furnished with marble counters also had a flat-screen TV. Also had King size bed with Queen size sleeper sofa. As well as nice little Lanai perfect for a evening night cap.

I have been going to Maui for over 27 years. I have stayed at a few condos and I think the Villas is the best value. The Alii is very nice but much more expensive and for the time you spend in the room not worth it in my opinion. The owners recently renovated most of the rooms so call and ask if they can get you a renovated room. The pool is great and the beach is one of the best on the right side a great place to snorkel and towards the left it is sandy with no rocks great to swim. You are close to almost anything and the free trolley will take you around.

On a side note for the owners and Aston management. I have stayed at the villas over 15 times. The staff used to be really friendly "aloha spirit" this time they where rude and all around not very helpful or accommodating. I would suggest to the owners to find a new management company Aston has really gone down hill. I have been to villas a few times in the last couple of years and each time the management gets worse.

All in all a great place to stay not over crowded and great condos. Just bring your own towels and try and not talk with the staff and management at the front desk and you will have a great time.
