“Fantastic Hotel”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed January 1, 2010

My husband and I just got back from our Honeymoon in Maui and this hotel really was brilliant!! The staff are really helpful and friendly, the rooms are great with really comfortable beds, good facilities etc. The beach is gorgeous and not very busy at all, with free sun loungers provided. The restauraunt in the hotel is really good quality, although doesn't have very much variety for vegetarians, but is affordable. There are a few shops in the hotel which is very useful, and a supermarket across the street and petrol station practically next door.

The parking is $9 a day, which for hawaii is quite reasonable, and there are lots of spaces. You really do need a rental car to get around the island as I don't think there is any public transport, but if you are planning on basing yourself at the hotel, you will be fine without one. It is about 40 mins for the main airport (kahului)and our taxi cost about $95. There is a shuttle that you can book as well which is sligtly cheaper.

There is really nothing I can say to fault this hotel, it really was amazing value with brilliant service - the perfect place to stay in Maui!!

We stayed at the Kaanapali Shores in one of their 2 bedroom Ocean Front units. It was absolutely awesome. The staff was very friendly. There are 2 pools and a restaurant along with a coffee bar. Each unit is fully equipped with all you would need for your stay. The Beachfront units are the ones to go for. It made our vacation to sit relaxing on the lanai, reading a book, watching the sun set or just having. The master bedroom is also ocean front with the 2nd bedroom and bath.

My husband and I stayed at Aston Kaanapali Shores oceanview condo in Dec. for 10 days. Compared to the other resorts in Maui, this one was such a great value. We stayed in and ate most meals, shopped at the grocery store across the street. Spent that saved money on excursions and had a great time! Truthfully, I was weary of what the rooms would be like because the price was so reasonable but we were pleasantly surprised. Lobby was beautiful, rooms clean and having a kitchen was the way to go for us! We would definitely stay there again...

My wife and I visited Aston Kaanapali Shores for our 21st wedding anniversary and loved every minute of it. We had planned to do a lot more sight-seeing but the hotel and grounds were so beautiful we decided to spend more time relaxing right where we were. What can I say but that we loved it all; the shopping, landscaping and grounds, the restaurant had great food and wine at very good prices and excellant service, the pools and spa and a fantastic beach with amazing Hawaiian sunsets to enjoy as well as very classy decor for the entire hotel and our room. The hotel staff were outgoing and friendly helping us to make the most of our trip. We were pleased to discover that a guest book in our room showed that past guests had positive comments and experiences too. What a place!

We booked this trip on the spur of the moment as the price seemed to good to be true. We stayed for 6 days and had a blast. Flight was smooth, didn't have a car ready at the rental agency (Budget) so they gave us a free 2 car upgrade (Ford Escape), and the drive to the Hotel was great. Check-in was smooth into our 1 bedroom. First room we had was a bit noisy, so I asked to change and we received a fabulous room on the 4th floor with a partial ocean view. Full kitchen was very nice for saving a few bucks on eating out. We have 2 children, 10 & 11, and they had no problems with the sofa sleeper, though they are not the best quality mattresses. Adults may find them a bit uncomfortable.
We don't eat fast food so we didn't take advantage of the kids eat free as often as we could have. Also, it ended at 4:00 pm, which is early for dinner. The pool was good, but if you're looking for the huge multi-level with waterfalls, look further. This is a standard pool, but still fun for the kids. The beach isn't worth snorkeling in, but a few minutes up or down the road will lead to some of the best snorkeling on the island. Pacific Whale foundation Lahaina snorkeling tour was best and the staff was great.
Overall, this trip was great. My kids did not want to go home. If you're not into the huge resort atmosphere, then this is the place. Very friendly and priced just right.
I would recommend planning your excursions ahead of time, but you might want to wait to book them on the island. You run the risk of them being booked, but we found some of the best prices after we arrived.

My husband and I just got back from a week on Maui at the Aston Ka'anapali Shores. I cannot say enough good things about this hotel!

The staff was excellent! Everyone was very friendly and they would all say hello to you when you passed them in the hallway, coming out of the elevator, or wherever. The restaurant had great food for a reasonable price (for Hawaii!). We ate there 5 times, I believe. Twice for breakfast and dinner, and once for lunch, and the service was always great.

The beach was very nice, there was a big shade tree at the far end and (normally) plenty of lounge chairs to choose from. One time we went down and there were no open chairs, so the pool staff let us take some from the pool area (which is right behind the beach).

The gardens were beautiful, and we personally had no trouble with the chirping birds. We couldn't even hear them in the morning with the bedroom door closed.

As for the rooms, ours was excellent. Comfortable bed, flat screen tvs, big comfy couch, marble countertops, full kitchen, a washer/dryer and a great view of the gardens from the lanai. There is no vent in the bathroom though, but we just kept the door open when we showered, so it wasn't a big deal.

As for the $9 a day parking, yes, it would be ideal if you didn't have to pay that, but we had just come from Waikiki Beach the week before where we had to pay around $120 for the week to park, so to us it wasn't that awful.

Also, the cleaning staff came everyday, so it was nice to come back and have the bed made and fresh towels.

To sum up, we had a wonderful time, and will definitely be back!

Pros: Like all the resorts, it's 30 seconds to the beach. The on-site restaurant has decent food at reasonable prices. The staff is extremely friendly. The first morning concierge presentation is extremely helpful without trying to hard-sell you the attractions, many of which they offer nice discounts for. Very spacious--even for the studio--with a full-sized dining table, big couch, and a nice outdoor patio.
Cons: The mattress was quite old, with huge indentations and was moderately uncomfortable. The televisions are in rather poor shape. Our kitchen "In-Sink-Erator" was not working. The hood fan over the stove was not working (although a second, working microwave was in the room). No ventilation in bathrooms. I will never be on board with $9.00/day parking (I mean, just change your room rates and tell us parking is free. The deception would be better than feeling like you're getting robbed.)

Overall: When we travel, our needs are fairly minimal--we are "gimme a bed in a box" kind of people. This place is decent, they just need to update some of the furnishings and the hallway carpets. For the relatively low price, I would rate it slightly above average. If you are looking for a cozy, broken-in place where you are simply going to be making a few meals and sleeping, you'll be just fine here. If you are looking for the "lap of luxury" no-holds-barred comfortable resort experience, I wouldn't recommend it. Also, one negative review I read complained about the excessive noise from the wild birds in the courtyard, but we found the noise to be quite nice--different and exotic, nice to wake up to.
