I want to start by saying the facility as a whole is awesome! The landscaping and decorating is some of the nicest I've ever seen. The garden and grounds are superb! Wow! Even if you don't stay there, sneak in the back way and take some pictures. They did a great job incorporating the pools into the look.

The decorating and modern suite was really appreciated - staying #210 of the main building

Its nice having those Expedia guys too help book activities.

Cons:
- this suite needs to be cleaned and the staff needs to be taught how to clean. When I walked through the kitchen into the washroom, I could feel my socks sticking to the tile. Just gross! I got to see the maids "clean" twice and they squirted some cleaner on the floor and then smeared it around with a pad mop. Really? Yes. That's not cleaning. If this is all that's happening, that explains why I found food pushed into the corners and other gross stuff. :-|

- the dishes supplied were sufficient but not clean. I had to clean every one before I used them. Finding food stuck on dishes is gross.

- the first thing I noticed in the bathroom was that the left, sink pot light bulb was burned out and the maids failed to have it changed out - guess it's one of those things where "it's not my problem".

- the other thing that I noticed was how dirty the bathroom was - there was 2 feet of black marks by the door handle - again, eewh?

- you may want to seal the grout in the shower area before the black mould grows too much - above the corner soap dish - terrible. The rest of the shower needs to be deep cleaned too.

- the bathroom vanity drawers need to be cleaned inside.

- I didn't like the sewer gas smell coming from the kitchen sink.

- the dark curtains in the master bedroom don't shut properly - can't get them to shut out the morning light. You may also want to remove the painters tape from the wall on the right side of the curtains.

- in both the front entry and the master bedroom there is a switch for a switched plug but, there's no lamp plugged into it so you have to walk through the dark to turn a lamp on. This is a pain in the butt and a safety issue.

- the printer for boarding passes was non-functioning but, the staff printed them off for me on their end (was appreciated. Thank you)

- the garden restaurant. The food and service was terrible! I was expecting the food to be top notch for a resort like this. Maybe my expectations are too high as I've worked for Fairmont Hotels years ago. Either way it needs alot of improving.

- there air conditioner is really noisy and bangs

Overall:

- I would stay here again but would refuse the contract if the suite is not clean

Room Tip: #210 gets you an ocean view

We thank these visitors for their comprehensive review of the unit they occupied. Clearly our team could have done a better job in preparing the unit for occupancy and cleaning it throughout the guests' stay. We will provide some focused training for the folks responsible to ensure against similar, future occurrences. We were surprised to read of their disappointment with the restaurant, as it has a reputation of providing a quality meal at "family" prices with a warm and friendly staff.

Mahalo.

We stayed here for a week over the holidays as per a recommendation from our travel agent and were very disappointed with the property. We would not recommend staying here. Some of our complaints included: the beach is very shallow allowing for only 1 row of lounge chairs which have limited availability, when we arrived we couldn't find a chair near the pool as they were all taken or reserved. It seems people reserve them in the morning for the day. The phone in the kitchen didn't work well and we needed to keep pressing the button to get a dial tone. We found a hunk of someone else's hair stuck on the shower wall, which the cleaning staff missed. The concierge at the hotel did not give us accurate information about what the surfing school by the beach could do. We were told by the concierge that they would take us wherever the conditions were best and when we asked the surfing school, they said they couldn't take us anywhere. Finally, our daughter arrived at the hotel after midnight and we had asked prior if someone could walk her up to our unit, as we were in one by the beach. We were assured that someone from Security would. When our daughter checked in, she asked to be walked up, and the woman at reception gave her a map and said to find it herself. We filed a complaint with the hotel through our agent and just last week received a letter apologizing and offering us an upgrade if we ever return. That will never happen.

We are sorry to again read that this customer's experience didn't align well with her expectations.

Kaanapali Shores is a very popular resort and a favorite return destination for thousands. As such it is typically extremely busy during winter (and holiday) periods. Naturally during very busy periods such as this, our guests will be taking advantage of the enjoyable pools and amenities offered at the resort. There are hundreds of lounges/chairs available at the resort. We're sorry they had trouble finding open ones.

With respect to the housekeeping items, there is no excuse for finding hair in the bathroom. We take cleanliness very seriously and had reviewed this with the personnel responsible at the time the guests contacted us directly. While they mention having brought this to the team's attention during their stay, the cleaners assigned to that stay do not recall this at all. In any case, we did chat with those responsible for the unit cleaning to ensure that they understand our standards and enforce them.

With respect to the concierge, I will share this feedback with their management team. They are normally recipients of complimentary feedback, so this one is very surprising!

Lastly, it is not uncommon for a late arriving guest to request an escort to a unit. Security has no problem doing this. I can only believe that this was a “communication” issue, because our service agents know they can call security for this purpose and do so regularly. I am sorry that the request by the guest didn’t get understood on a level that resulted in the guest being escorted to the unit.

We appreciate these guests sharing their feedback and apologize that we were not able to meet some of their expectations.

Top-quality hotel with large, spacious and very comfortable one-bedroom condominium. Also, the resort is right on the beach and has beautifully landscaped gardens with two pools, a koi pond and lush vegetation. The gardens are accented with path lights and "tiki" torches which create a very nice atmosphere at night.

The resort also has an excellent restaurant. In fact, we ate there every night of our stay. The food and service were so good, there was absolutely no need to drive somewhere else.

We booked this vacation package through Costco Travel, and selected this particular hotel because it offered the largest accommodations (over 900 square feet) for the best price. After having stayed there, we would make this our first choice for any return trip to Maui.

Room Tip: One-bedroom condominium is an excellent value. We were on the 5th floor, which was quiet and provid...

We booked this place after reading the reviews on Trip Advisor. We wanted a place to stay with our 1 year old that wasn't too expensive. The staff here are great and very accomodating. We requested a ground level unit to make it easier to get around with our son. It was also nice that he could step out of our unit and run around on the grass. He loved the smaller pool. It was great having a washer and dryer in the unit.
We had one mishap, but the hotel quickly resolved the issue and gave us a $100 food credit for our inconvenience.
We knew ahead of time that the beach wasn't the best, but we could walk with the stroller to the Hona Kai and hook up to the beach walk.
The Times Market across the street was very handy and their is a Safeway in Lahaina (10 minute drive).
We were very glad we stayed here and would come back again.

Aston Kaanapali Shores is a fantastic place to stay, great value, great service, awesome resort. Our room had a full kitchen, it was outstanding as we had a 1 year old with us and wanted to cook our own food, even though she ate free at the restaurant.

It is not in the central part of town, we caught buses to get to Whalers village, where the shopping and restaurants are. That didn't bother us as it was always a bit of an adventure.

It was a great place to just chill as it was not in the centre if town. The pool area was superb and the beach was really lovely, get in quick to snap up a banana lounge.

Just across the road is a great supermarket and some fast food shops. For us the location was perfect for this reason but if you want to stay central the best place to stay would be Whalers village but expect to pay the price unless you get a good deal.

We would stay there again and would recommend it to anyone.

If you are coming to Maui for the beach, don't stay here. The beach in front of this property is VERY narrow and rocky. I was so upset because the pictures don't show this. You have to walk quite a ways or drive and try to find parking to go on a decent beach.

Our room had lots of tiny ants in it. When we got there, there was a notice that they would be spraying our room for pests. I thought they would go away but they didn't. So I let the front desk know and they said they would spray again. That didn't help either. We had ants everywhere. Front desk didn't apologize or seem to care.

Noisy! We could hear everything going on in the hallway from our room. People talking in normal voices, the elevator ding, etc. No sound insulation here!

I would not recommend this place.

We're so sorry to read of the disappointment of these visitors. Like most shorelines in an island environment that is subject to ocean swells/conditions, the beach conditions can change from time to time. Often times we have a very wide expanse of beach that is great for swimming, sun bathing and has some of the best snorkeling on the island. Even when the beach is at a low, there is plenty of white sand for laying out just a 30 second walk to the south of us. You do not need to drive anywhere... Ants within a unit can be a sign that the previous guest left food out during their visit. We have a professional pest control company that can be called to handle such situations. We are sorry these visitors were inconvenienced by this...
