“Great location and value!”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed August 14, 2012

What more can a mother ask for when you have a full kitchen AND a washer/dryer in your hotel room?? 5 of us stayed in a garden suite with one King bed, one Queen pull-out, and an extra bed. Sofa bed was comfortable enough for me and my son. My back didn't hurt even after a week stay. Clean room. Found no roaches. Garden view on the 3rd floor had ocean view. We stayed in Wailea last time in a luxury resort where you had to walk a long hallway, down the elevator, and walk almost a half mile to get to the pool where all the chairs were taken by 8am. It was exhausting just to get to the pool and back for my 80-year-old father. This property was just perfect, conveniently located on the beach where you can snorkel and swim (though the bottom of the ocean is full of corals, not soft). Beach is quiet with full of chairs but no umbrellas or trees. Wish they had umbrellas... Wish they restricted the adult pool to non-babies (I saw some infants with no cover-ups). No lifeguard there. A big 24-hr grocery store, Hawaiian BBQ takeout place, gourmet pizza place with gelato, and more eateries are across the street. You don't need a car. If you want to snorkel, park at Whalers Village shopping center for $4/30min. and snorkel at Black Rock in front of Sheraton. Buy something there for $15 to get the validation so you don't just end up paying $12 for the parking for 2 hrs of snorkeling. No free parking (12 spots are free next to Sheraton). I swam with a sea turtle for almost 20 min. there. It came up close to the shore and just swam around in circle. Honolua Bay in north is a must for snorkeling!! Park on the side of the street and walk down the jungle-like path to the rock beach. Amazing corals right in the bay with thousands of fish!! No waves. Overall, we enjoyed Aston Kaanapali Shores. As long as the price stays the same, I will stay there again.

Recently stayed at this hotel with a group who traveled to Maui for a family wedding. We had a one bedroom ocean view room. The facility was attractive and well maintained. The landscaping was very picturesque. Efforts were made to accommodate our group and we had a great time. The balcony view was gorgeous. The grocery store across the street is well stocked and allowed us to cook breakfast and have lunch snacks in the room. Although the cooking utensils were a bit limited for cooking. Housekeeping services were a bit minimal, but hey made the beds and provided clean towels each day. Pool areas were well maintained and relaxing

This was a return visit to Ka'anapali Shores, third time to Maui.

This time around we rented a condo closer to the ocean with a view of the pool and the beach. As before, we rented directly from an owner rather than get the 'luck of the draw' with Aston.

What has changed in three years? Not a whole lot but that's a good thing for this traveler. The courtyard is still nicely landscaped and maintained. The pools are well maintained as well.
They have added a free DVD rental kiosks for Aston guests. They changed out the tiki torches with ones that don't burn as bright... perhaps they're more efficient or less likely to blow out as the flame is sort of in a cage. They have added for-rent pool side cabana's and seem to have taken away some of the tables with umbrellas ( hmm... I wonder why ).

The beach in front is nice as well. There was one area with a dense cluster of mango? trees that provided nice shade for those of us that don't want to be red as a lobster. So peaceful... just lounging there while the wind blows in from the ocean.

The condo we rented was missing some basic supplies (soap, laundry detergent), but at least the condo owner reimbursed us for those expenses.

I see from other reviews that some folks have had issues with Aston management but since we rented directly from an owner, we never had to deal with Aston. The staff around the resort is polite and pleasant as usual.

The on-premise restaurant had good food and is really convenient when you just don't want to go anywhere. For a good breakfast buffet, take a walk next door to the Ka'anapali Beach Club ( the pink building ). I think it was $15. There's also a very entertaining omelette maker over there. I think his name was Freddie. They also have a nice patio restaurant for evening dining.

One amusing issue with being closer to the ocean means you are closer to the KS restaurant. As we were on the 6th floor, every morning the smell of cooking bacon would waft in through the open doors of the lanai.

In summary... had a restful trip to Maui and Ka'anapali Shores.

Room Tip: Rent directly from an owner so that you know exactly what room you are getting.

We stayed here for 7 days 2bdrm 2bath 1/2 ocean 1/2 garden view and the view was spectacular, the grounds were well kept and quite beautifull. The rooms and furniture was dated and one of the beds were not real comfortable but for the cost it was no problem.
So from arrival to departure the staff was rude and mean. When we arrived I couldint find my credit card and was looking frantically thru my purse for it and the lady was getting very frustrated with me giving me giving me dirty looks, there was no one in line behind me so there was no reason for her to be so mean.
Then at the pool bar the bartender (the lady with the dirty hair) was double shoting the cabana boys & under shoting our drinks at $10.00 a drink we complained to mgmt (Kevin) and he said he would get back to us, never heard from him (she did say she was best friends with the general mgr) thats probley why. So we went over to the resort next door and spent our money there and guess what we were met with a smile and Aloha and a good decent drink, needless to say we didn't spend any more of our money at the rude bar, go figure.
And an employee accused my son of trying to steal a t-shirt from the gift shop.
No I would not recomend this resort

Room Tip: We had room 104 good location and great view

With over 1,000 postings over the past few years, this will be one of a very, very few times that we feel the need to point out that what is stated within a posting is simply false. I don't want to get into details as to "why" this guest chose to post this, but I'm guessing most readers are savvy enough to understand...

Obviously our bartender was not pouring alcoholic beverages for our cabana people, and neither did the owner of the retail outlet at the resort accuse them of stealing without having made a reasonable assumption that they were leaving with the garment in hand (right or wrong).

We also find it interesting that they mention the resort next door, as we often get folks coming from there to dine with us, sharing with us that they prefer the warmth and sincerity of our employees, and make the walk over because of it.

We hope that readers will draw the appropriate conclusions when reading this guest's posting, as what is stated within it is simply inaccurate and not at all representative of our resort experience.

Mahalo.

I have stayed at this resort 4 times and returned the first few times because we loved the location, the resort and the amenities here. This visit is different from the others I've made because I am here with a family that lost their son in a riptide while he was staying here in February 2010. The resort and the staff have gone above and beyond making this family comfortable when they make the trip here to honour their son's memory. Mark, Carol, Andrea (and many others I haven't met I'm sure) have made this a safe and supportive place for them to come back to. They set up a permanent memorial near the beach for Bryce and they take pride in maintaining it for the family. They are truly warm, welcoming people who have embraced this family in their tragedy and continue to make their trips here truly special. They have taken what could have been a very difficult trip for this family and turned it into as positive an experience as it could possibly be.

Thank you to this resort - you have proven you have a heart and care deeply about your guests. I highly recommend this place to stay based on all the experiences I have had with this resort.

We had a one bedroom garden view. I was prepared for the birds by reading trip advisor and they didn't bother us at all. I have to say there were loud twice a day, but again, it didn't bother us. The beach was a narrow beach, but the water was wonderful, we were able to snorkel and chairs were always available for us. We did have problems with our dvr. We reported them the first time and they said it was fixed. Again, we had problems and they said it was fixed. Third time, same thing. I went to the desk and complained a 4th time and they finally replaced it. That was the only problem we experienced during our stay. We will definately stay here for our next visit.
