“Wonderful B&B”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed August 26, 2008

My wife and I stayed here in April 2008... found it to be the most wonderful B&B and the host.... Mitizi... was the best... not good... not just great... but the BEST... If she is still working there.. We would recommend highly... She made us feel at home in every way and the facilities were spotless... Breakfast was great... If we could only live like this at home... Great location... 8 beaches withing 3 miles in either direction...

B & B was a little difficult to find since it is located in a very busy residential neighborhood.

When we arrived at Blue Horizons on a Thursday afternoon, we were surprised to find an envelope taped to the door and no one appeared to be around.

The room was downstairs in the basement, next to the laundry.

The room had a kitchenette with small refrigerator. No coffeepot, microwave, stove, although it looked like there had once been one.

The room was not clean and the odor was very musty smelling.

The lanai off the room was shared with two other rooms so there was no privacy and was used for smoking by adjoining guests.

When we booked we asked if we needed to bring snorkel gear and were told it was provided. The gear was not usable, broken or in poor condition. Bring your own or plan to rent !

Breakfast was cold cereal and fruit and NOT served on Sunday, although the rate is the same.

The pool area was very run down , pool was cold and had a lot of traffic noise as it backs a major street.

Most of the available tourist information is old books and brochures left by previous guests. Staff seemed more interested in their own economic situations.

There are a lot of other places to stay if you are looking for the aloha experience.

So lets start off with the good. This place is very convenient for people wanting to hang out between Lahaina and Kapalua. For those people, this is a very good location.

That being said, you might want to look at other locations to stay at. Here are the reasons.

1. The major highway, that runs up and down west Maui, is literally 20 yards away from the back of the bedrooms. This place is loud! Very loud! We ran the fan on high all-night so that we could have some white noise. Not the peaceful stay we were expecting. This is the major reason why we do not like the place.

2. At the front of the bedrooms is the neighborhood, which is obnoxious at times. The neighbors across street have two dogs that fight with each other...even into the evenings. Again, not a peaceful way to spend your time.

3. The driveway in very steep and narrow. Just be aware if you have an expensive rental car. There are three parking spots at the top, where there should only be two.

4. Breakfast is just fruit and a muffin. Just be aware. That is considered a full breakfast here. The pineapple and kiwi are fresh fruit, but not everything is. Rooms are not "basic kitchenette's", as there are no microwaves or anything to cook something hot.

We were disappointed with the stay. Would not stay there again as there are many better places in Maui to stay at.

Overall, our stay was comfortable and restful. Unfortunately, we did encounter a few problems. Breakfast, while tasty, was not served until 8 a.m. Many tour adventures and not-to-be missed sights on the island require a very early start. Therefore, we missed out on breakfast 3 out of 5 mornings. Also, the room, while generally clean, had a mildewy smell which found its way in to our luggage and home with us. Lastly, the neighborhood was rather noisy during our stay. (Residential and highway traffic, dogs, lawnmowers, etc.)

Definetly not to be written home about. To begin, its difficult to get in and out of the steep driveway. Later, after a pineapple plantation tour, we gave a pineapple to the husband, who wasn't terribly excited or grateful. We think the hosts have forgotten what owning a b&b is all about, as they never asked us our names or even where were from.

Can't comment on the breakfast, as we had early excursions both mornings. There was a full kitchen and bath in the room, but it felt more like a condo than a b&b. There was a hole in the wall where the microwave should have been, and dust covering the alarm clock. If hygiene is important to you, you may not want to stay here. We choose b&b's for the special experience that they offer, and did not get what we were expecting at Blue Horizons.

My husband and I were not on the island during this time. The gentleman here was our manager, whom we found along with his girl friend, were greeting our guests as owners. We are very sorry the people were dissatified. We have a different manager now. She is very personable and has much experience in theBed & Breakfast industry. We would welcome them to try again. I am sure they would change their minds.

My new bride and I stayed here for 4 days and 3 nights during our recent honeymoon in Maui. This was our first time in Maui and also first time at a Bed/Breakfast. We booked directly through the Blue Horizons website and got an incredible rate. The location is a few blocks from the beach, but we found the location to be great for us. We drove around the island easily and this was a good central location. All of the extras that you pay for a resort are complimentary here (parking, internet, breakfast, beach gear, coolers, chairs, snorkel gear, etc.) The breakfast in the morning was a nice highlight too, always freshly prepared and ready at 8AM. When we return to Maui, we’ll strongly consider Blue Horizons again.
