“Location, location, location but not perfect.”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed June 5, 2013

Sort of hard to find as there are no signs indicating that it is a hotel - no sure what is going on in the rest of the house but no matter. The location is absolutely perfect. Lahaina is a wonderful town and its such a better option that one of the nameless ritzy resorts. Its a bit like Key West and we had our bikes so we could tool around town. The House is about a block from the beach which is very lovely and very calm in the morning - perfect for kayaking or paddleboarding. The room was rather large with a balcony and it was actually more like an apartment. Very spacious. Now the downside; the air conditioning was very loud and very old. Many of the outlets did not work and the shutters did not properly close. I know - not big items - and it really was fine with me, but partner sort of was dismayed at what he saw as the lack of upkeep. Nice small pool and Sherrie (the owner/manager?) was very accommodating. So if you want to stay in the heart of Lahaina, a good choice but don't expect perfection.

I had the pleasure of staying at the Old Lahaina House last November. Sherry, the owner, is just a wonderfully warm and informative lady who welcomes all her guests with open arms.

The house is within walking distance to downtown Lahaina. The rooms are unique with tropical flair. It was a wonderful experience!!!!

We had a great stay at this unconventional hotel, it was more like staying in someone’s home. It is walking distance to downtown Lahaina and the beach for spectacular sunsets and an opportunity to use the BBQ for poolside dinners.

We were attracted by the charming photos of Old Lahaina House when we booked and when we arrived we were not disappointed. Our room was lovely and clean, perfectly positioned by the pool. During our stay of four nights, Sherry the owner recommended numerous places to eat for breakfast, lunch and dinner. Her local knowledge allowed us to eat in so many fine establishments not found in guide books. Sherry was extremely friendly and helpful and did everything within her power to ensure we had the best possible time on Maui. We wish we could have stayed longer and we will definitely be back!

First off, I want to make it clear that you do get what you pay for here and the rates are pretty reasonable. This is not a 5 star resort so don't expect amazingness. That being said, I think the owners can do a lot more to ensure better satisfaction from their guests. After reading the other reviews from guests, my husband and I were excited to come stay here but it was pretty disappointing. Luckily we weren't in the room much at all.
Upon check in, we were never told to go to the back of the house so it was a bit confusing to get inside. After we called, we were met by a very nice guy at the office named Gary who showed us to our room. We had no towels inside and no room key. Gary said he would "look into it" and we never saw him again. We then had to find another employee who could help us out and finally got a key and towels a good 35 minutes later. The room seemed dirty. The large area rug had a good amount of stains and the 2 chair cushions at the table were also very dirty looking so we didn't want to sit on them. There was a stain on the sheets and on the bed skirt. The toilet seat was old and beat up looking with no toilet lid. The towels we were given were all different colors and had large bleach stains all over them. They also smelled a bit like smoke. The faucet in the bathroom was very old and hard to turn on. There was a ceiling fan with one bulb burned out and a remote to operate it which would be great but there was a battery missing. The ceiling fan/light also didn't have a switch on the wall so you had to be very tall to pull the strings to operate it. There was a TV with cable which was awesome but the TV volume and power had to be turned off manually. Also we barely saw anyone in the office so these things could never be addressed. We weren't asked by anyone how our stay was going or if we needed anything. Nothing was explained to us, such as what to do with any dirty dishes, rinse them in our bathroom sink? We had to use the same towels all week. The vertical blinds in the room were all bent and let a ton of light in the room every morning at 6:30 so that's when we woke up. Some curtains would be a quick and easy fix. The birds were so loud they felt like they were in the room with us. And one of the worst things was some people talking and drinking late at night outside our room keeping me up for hours. Of course I had no idea how to reach anyone to tell them of this problem. Also other than our room with a small lock on the door, there was no main door that locked so anyone could walk right inside and potentially break into your room. We also saw 2 large cockroaches 2 of the 4 nights. I know they can be anywhere pretty much but it just makes you feel extra gross when you see one crawling on your floor or in your shower and I've never seen them other places in Maui. Overall, it felt like staying in a hostel, not a guest house. It has a lot of potential it just seems like the owners do not care enough to make it nice. I am shocked by how many people rated this place "excellent", it makes no sense at all and I am not one of those people who is hard to please. We will not be staying here again.

Room Tip: We had the 2nd floor queen bed room, maybe others are nicer, I have no idea.

After a recent 9 night stay in February 2103 at the Old Lahaina House on Maui I wanted to let other travellers coming to Maui and looking to stay in Lahaina town know what a great option this family owned and run guest house is. There is no other reason to stay in or very near Lahaina town than to be able to walk into town for dinner and drinks, a day of whale watching or fishing or just to enjoy an afternoon. A short 10 minute walk to the best of Lahaina town, there is a public beach access very close allowing for everything from early morning shore whale watching to late afternoon book reading. Kannapoli Beach is close by along with the incredible snorkling along the rocks south of the old Hawaiian cemetary at the edge the hotels. Kihei and the awesome scuba diving we did with Ed Robinson Dive Adventures were just short early morning drive away. (much better dives than you get in town and an awesome staff at ERDA... see my review). Sherry and everyone at the OLH were both helpful and available and made my friend and I feel at home in our comfy room and the chilled out pool/ grill outdoor area. Free well connect wifi everywhere makes it a great old school oasis for the modern traveller!

If you are going to Maui and would like to spend some time at a perfect location with nice people in Lahaina town, spend some days and nights at the Old Lahaina House! Aloha!!! Mahalo!!!

My husband and I just got home yesterday and we stayed a week at old Lahaina house. Not only was Sherry the owner incredibly hospitable, but the location was absolutely incredible. The house is across the street from the beach. The town is walking distance, so it made eating out and shopping easy. We stayed in two different rooms at the house and they were both so nice I can't decided which one I like more. They all have their own bathrooms and locks on the door and it's nicer then then a hotel. They all have refrigerators and microwaves, and there is an outdoor kitchen so saving money on food is easy.
We rented bikes so we got around even easier but you didn't need it since you could walk to the beach and town. I plan to go back for a family get together because the location makes it such a great vacation.
