We just returned from a trip to Maui and did a two tank dive with Maui Diving (shore dives). Our guide was Zack, and he was fun, laid back and did a great job of guiding us around. He was excited to show us all the marine life in the water, which was definitely a plus. We did our first dive at Airport Beach...nice easy entry, water was cool but not cold (I had a full wetsuit on and definitely recommend it for this time of year). We saw an eel and several cool species of fish, but the best was hearing the whales underwater! This dive maxed out at about 47 feet. From there, we went back to shop to reload and then headed out to Mala Pier. This was incredible! As others have mentioned, this is an old abandoned pier that collapsed and formed a reef about 10-30 feet below the surface. This entry was a little cold (for those that didn't have full wetsuits!) because you enter from an area that has fresh water runoff. But the cold didn't last too long. Once we were under, we immediately saw several white tip reef sharks, which was awesome! So many fish and pretty good visibility. We saw another eel, a sea turtle and 3 more sharks, but the highlight of this dive (other than the sharks) was the frogfish! Zack was super excited to spot it.
The dive shop is friendly and very reasonably priced. They provided me with a brand new BCD, which was really nice. I would definitely recommend these guys!
